My grandfather used to make a little in the old barn. His big joke was aging didn't make it better. He let a bottle set a week one time and it didn't change a bit.
This wasn't the B.O.B., if it was it would have blown them all away. The price difference is like $3 too so it's like they purposely bought the shittiest one instead of providing a good bottom shelf whiskey.
I've been a OGD fan a while. 114 is great too. I just picked up the OGD 16yr shelled out $150 for it the most I've ever paid by far but haven't opened it yet. Planning on opening on Christmas lol.
I'm a blue collar worker and can't justify buying any bourbon except from the bottom shelf. I have had some bottom shelf Bourbons and for me Evan Williams black label mixed with zero Pepsi is my favorite. My second choice would be Kentucky Tavern reserve. It is undead smooth.
You ain't lived until you've tried Military Special Bourbon sold in military liquor stores (Class VI). Paint thinner would have better flavor and go down smoother. 😂
We did a whiskey tasting with like 28 different whiskeys and old Grandad bonded ended up in the top four in a blind tasting it's a fine whiskey for what it is
When I was little if I got sick and had chest congestion mom would give me a tablespoon of Old Grand Dad. When I got older she couldn't find the bottle anymore lol.
I think the bottom shelf Tequila idea you can go 2 different paths: 1) Just straight bottom of the barrel cheapest swill you can find. OR 2) Cheapest 100% Agave Tequila. (None of that Mixto junk)
Boy I remember my high school days, going to ball games and such with a pint in my pocket of Cheap whiskey..... old Granddad, Old Crow, Kessler's Whiskey, Early Times.... too many to remember.
Little bit surprised Old Crow didn’t make the list. Looked into Glenmore distillery and it seems to be owned by Sazerac. They also seem to be a central location for various different names.
Like a true southern man after 5 shots of different bottom shelf bourbons, he simply says Early Times is my favorite. If you’re going to the bottom shelf, go with that. I'll fight ya!
I used to drink a bottom shelf called BOURBON ROYAL. I was as smooth as 80grit sandpaper. Definitely had to chase it with a really cheap beer(Milwaukee's Best). I now just stick with Evan Williams and Lonestar Light.
@@dabanjoEarly Times is consistent with its flavor profile and readily available in most places, my go to when I want a drink and don't want any surprises.
I married a little 5'3" firecracker from Eastern Kentucky. Anytime she says she needs "cough syrup", she pulls out a bottle of "Old Grandad". The joke has always been that you take a good swig and quit coughing so you don't have to take another.
one in every four bottles of Jim Beam my grandfather bought was dumb whiskey, normally they served him the smart whiskey but that dumb whiskey was ever lurking on liquor store shelves throughout the Mississippi Delta
What he was drinking was not rye either. I don't know why he kept saying that stupidity. Old Grandad is just a high-rye mashbill bourbon. It is not going to be sickly sweet like some of the others. I prefer bourbons with a high rye mashbill. Wild Turkey is also a high-rye mashbill bourbon. I think guys like "Boss" might be best suited drinking Canadian Whiskey.
Another great video. As you said, it's football season, do you think you would do a tailgate video? You could showcase all of the must-have foods for a successful game day...& maybe a couple of trusty beers Maybe you could do a best of worst burgers
You wanna try some bottom shelf whiskey that belongs on the top? Try Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. Costs twenty bucks and I'd pick it over Jack any day. Mellow corn is pretty good too.
@Ratedred don't really have a specific 1 I have many that I drink depending on my mood but here's what I typically keep stocked old taylor, ten high, old grand dad 114, rebel 100, benchmark, Evan williams bottled in bond, old crow, mellow corn, jw dant, ancient ancient age 10 star, and j.t.s. brown
Old charter is Sazarac Buffalo Trace, actually is not bad and it's like bottom shelf eagle rare sameeeeee mash bill and same with ancient age is sameeeeee mash bill and Blantons. Worked at a liquor store for awhile,I was the whiskey guy.
Love the series, as I'm a bit of a pour boy. I know you pride yourself on avoiding pretentious jargon, but I do wish you would've spent some time considering the differences between "straight bourbon" and "Kentucky whiskey with grain alcohol and artificial flavors."

As someone from Ky, (if you havent done this video yet) try some Mid shelf to Top shelf bourbons maybe? I recommend Willet, Eagle Rare, Buffalo trace, 1792, Larceny, and Angels Envy. Old Thompson was my go to when I was a teenage whiskey enjoyer, The smell of it makes my stomach turn now… So obviously next time Boss needs to try it! Lol.
I like Old Grandad, it's probably my favorite cheap bourbon besides Old Tub, but I do think their bonded 100 proof and 114 are better. The guy on the front is supposed to be Basil Hayden, the original owner of the distillery founded in 1882, but it's now owned by Jim Beam/Suntory. There's also a bourbon named after him. Basil Hayden is the exact same mash bill of 63% corn, 27% rye, and 10% malted barley but aged longer. OGD is aged 2 years and BH aged 6 - 8 years and is a lot smoother. If you like rye, you might try Old Overholt. It's cheap, but it's not too bad for a cheap rye whiskey.
As a native of louisiana, anyone in the SEC is more than willing to attest that we know our way around some bourbon and because of that I have to say that Old Charter and old Grandad do not deserve to be in the company of these others

Yeah, there's an unbelievably good bottom shelf bourbon that costs $13 for a bottle, unfortunately it's only available in Kentucky. Old Fitzgerald 80 proof. I have probably $50k worth of bourbon in my collection, I buy a case of Old Fitz prime every chance I get.

Old Grand Dad Bonded is only a couple of dollars more and far better than the regular, still considered bottom shelf to most people
OGD 114 is decent too and will put hair on your chest. Good for old fashions if it is too hot for you to shoot.
Old grand dad is my go to.
OGD bonded rye is one of my favorites. I like a lot of the bonded bourbons. I don’t like Jack Daniels but I do like Jack Daniels bonded.
