CAN YOU PUSH LUTS ON PLAYBACK FROM THE CANON C70 & C80 (EP.382)

Thanks for this tutorial, very helpful! I don’t know how I’ve missed your other C70/C80 content, great stuff! It is a total head scratcher that the C80 does not have View Assist during playback when the C70 does, it is a no-brainer necessity for many! I just got the Kinefinity Eagle HDMI EVF and LOVE it, but it does not have LUT support, so View Assist would be a welcome firmware update. Cheers from San Francisco!

I can’t believe even the new C80 does not have lut playback through HDMI. This is why I returned my canon R5C a couple of years ago. Together with the reason that the camera couldn’t do high frame rates in raw with the internal battery only. I know since then they’ve released a new battery. What’s crazy about the lut feature, is that even the cheapest sub $1000 Sony has the ability to load user luts and to apply the lut during playback through HDMI. People will say well just get a monitor with the ability to add luts, well I already invested in thousands of dollars of expensive high-quality Sony monitors that do not have this ability. So this means I would have to add a device in between the camera & monitor to add the lut functionality. And then if you go into an environment, where there’s already monitors, now you have to make sure they can have luts and you gotta make sure that you can load your canon lut onto it. It just makes everything a real pain in the butt. So that’s why I’m still on the sideline and even though I love Canon and I think it has a pretty image, I’m stuck with Sony Because of functionality and ease of use.

I get it. It’s frustrating. Unfortunately ALL of these cameras haves pluses and minuses. I hope we can get external playback LUTs in the C70 & C80 (at least the C80), with a firmware update.
