A couple of hints. Bring the revs up to 1500 to 1800 while slipping the clutch in the friction zone. It sounds like you are at idle. Use a little pressure on the rear brake until you get more familiar with the friction zone. (AKA dragging the rear brake) Once you get better with the friction zone, keeping power to the rear wheel, you can eliminate the rear brake. With the fear of dropping the bike now gone, it will get easy to nail the figure 8 every time. Good job.

A visit from the master himself. Awesome! Thank you, will do. BTW, I purchased your Ride Like a Pro video a while ago but because I didn't want to damage my bike, I went through it once (not very well I might add). Now with no fear, nothing is going to stop me. Peace.

@@BernardoLora1 If you follow the exercises I show in the video in the order shown, by the time you get to the figure 8 it will be easy. Plus it will save you a lot of picking up the bike back aches. Remember, it's 90% mental and 10% physical. You have the will, and I show you the way.
P.S. Jay is a good friend of mine. He sent me a link to this video.

Back up a step - first factor in 8s and U turns is you MUST twist your head and shoulders around and look BEHIND you were you are going to end up in the turn
watch the video, rider is hardly turning his head at all.
The first rule of riding is ALWAYS LOOK where you want the motorcycle to go!
That means for a U turn you must twist your head and shoulders around and look behind you to the left where you will end up at the end of the turn.
If you take the MSF beginners course you will learn how to do 8s and U turns on the first day - even if you never rode a motorcycle in your life
      FUNDIMENTALS!
you need to take the course and UN learn all your bad (self taught) righting habits
Crash bars are still great - sometimes you drop the bike for no fault of your own - nothing wrong with a little insurance to protect the engine and your ankles.

Lmao. I was going to add to this comment until I seen who it's from. Nope Jerry hit everything on the head. I too started dragging my rear brake ( after watching a video from ride like a pro)till I got a little more comfortable with it. Now I just use the friction zone of the clutch with throttle around 1800-2000rpm. Practice makes perfect. And the best advice I can give is if you don't make the choice the choice makes you. Be safe.

This is excellent! I'm most impressed with your willingness to fall even WITH the drop guards. My issue is that I have the drop guards but I'm still too afraid to fall and to trust them. I have also fallen a couple of times and wrenched my ankle. What I've noticed is that you have disciplined yourself to STAY ON THE BIKE when you fall. You don't put your foot down. If I can get to that, then the real learning begins. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hey....it's so cool of you to share this. I was doing the same thing 1 week ago with my motorcycle le drop guards. Going pretty well, then oops....dropped my Indian Roadmaster. No damage, but I was actually irritated that I scratched up my drop guards. I haven't gotten to the 18 foot U turn......probably like 22' now. I have to say that even with the drop guards, I didn't go at it as hard as you did. Great job!

Omg thank you for this - I’m a newbie in riding and when I couldn’t do the close u turn and drop my bike 3 times (without protection) my confidence went backwards, couldn’t even ride like I was doing - now I have clarity thanks to you. Just order the protection and handlebars etc it was all in my mind about getting my bike hurt!!! Also that it’s normal to drop ur bike at the beginning

I don't even own a bike, but got my license earlier this week.
I've been doing a lot of TH-cam "studying" and you're looking real good just after 15 minutes.
The confidence in the crash guards seems to make a big difference.
So long as the bike is protected I don't think I'd worry much about dropping the bike. I'd just worry about someone watching me drop, embarrassing.😬👍🏽✌🏽

So the drop guards gets pretty scratched up depending on how much you fall during practice. But they don't get damaged. The good thing is that you can take them off and your bike is good.
