Smh.... This video was the best video I've seen in the past decade........UNTILLLLL... I found out my boat doesnt even have a vin on it. It looks like to previous owner rebuild it and removed the vin, from the plate on the back... I guess its safe to say I'm screwed.
I know I’m really late, but how do you know how much money to send with the bill of sale? I have a 1986 bass hawk with no papers and I am still a bit confused about how to pay for the registration and stuff like that
I believe there is a section on the paperwork that shows how to calculate. I did end up calling the DMV up there and talking to someone and they were able to tell me the check amount to send.
Bought airboat in Florida.. no paper work or anything.... old but restore it is my plan... no Vin anywhere on this boat... but was a factory airboat ... I was told homemade is way to go on a deal like this.....
I live in Massachusetts & the boat, recreational vehicle & snowmobile was so rude she hung up on me yesterday cuz I was trying to explain to her our situation & she kept telling me to get the title. The boat is a 1997 seadoo challenger 1800 we have bill of sale, title receipt & registration (but no title 😑) she was rude & didn't want to help us at all she just kept telling "no title don't bother" advice please
@Lance Hooker yes we did go through with VT & we got the registration in a few days ago. I'm so grateful 🙏 it works cuz we would have been out badly in this deal. Thank you for the advice 😊
Anyways to be in-touch with you on guidance of what form are need it. I recently bought 2 jet skis with a trailer with only bill of sell. Im Willing to venmo you $ for your service. Thank you!
Same here..don't have a title for jersey and no registration..just a bill of sale..but nj don't want to bother with this..boat is an 84..do I need a Vermont address...once registered in my name then they will give me a title in nj
I had them send it to my house in MD... Same situation in MD as far as getting it registered once you get it back from VT. I just haven't taken it to the DNR here to get it titled/registered in MD yet because, well I have another 9 months on this registration. However, I fall in a unique category (active duty) that allows me to have a year without getting it registered if the primary waters is in MD.
Hi I’m buying a dinghy from someone in Virginia ( he founded the dinghy about 5 month ago as he was streaming live on tictoc ) there is no title and boat it’s not old , can I register in Vermont too because in MD it’s a headache. I called the DNR and was told if the guy have foundered in MD the DNR will keep it .
Hey so how do I obtain the vin numbers for the trailer and the boat? I'm in Florida and I bought a 10 foot dinghy. The bill of sail I have for it is basically a piece of paper that the seller and I signed with the information that she sold the boat to me. This is all I have. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
If it has a VIN or Boat Hull number, take that and your bill of sale to the DMV, tell them that the boat was only used on a private lake with a paddle and so it never needed to be registered and ask them for their version of the BoS (there is a florida specific one) and an affidavit. You and the other party fill out their version of the BoS and an affidavit that it isn't stolen yada yada. The run the numbers to check. There is some follow up paperwork, plan on an hour or two. Sometimes a deputy wants to verify the number so take a pic or have it the boat with you. If they are real a-holes they will have to get some dispatched or w/e. One that is one. Pay the $37 and they will give you the stickers on the spot. If it doesn't have a number you have to play the home built boat game. Likely they will send an officer out to check that it was home built, if it doesn't look it... you're probably SOL. Get someone to weld a transom reinforcement and a couple mounting brackets around the rails. Maybe some weird lighting pole to see at night in an obscure place like right on the bow. That would def come across as home-built.
So I did have to pay the tax but the “trailer was free” with the boat. I bought mine for 350$ so I ended up paying something like 76$. I believe the calculations are on the sheet but worst case, could call the dmv in VT and ask. Depends on what’s on the bill of sale though.
Unfortunately too many people did this now the state Vermont will no longer let you do it with out proof of residency. Active as of July 2023, Sorry boys.
I'm active duty, too. Same problem but just only a trailer not titled I try to get it legit in Maryland cuz Maryland resident. I couldn't tell from the explanation did your trailer have to be over 15 or 25 years old? Thinking about pulling the trigger on one and this would save me a bunch of headache
HEADS UP VERMONT JUST CLOSED THE LOOP HOLE TO GET TITLES FOR ABANDONED BOATS AND VEHICLES . I have two jet skis that was abandoned by a customer back in June . I live in Nevada they shut down the law that would of allowed me to get titles for these skis they will not help me I was told all you can do now is call Law Enforcement and have they towed and impounded! Yeah no shit! I called Idaho DMV because that was the last address of the registered owner and THEY WILL NOT HELP ME I AM OUT OF STATE . I CALLED DMV HERE TO TRY TO GET A BONDED TITLE THEY WONT HELP ME ITS WATER CRAFT . I’m in a similar situation did you ever figure out how to register yours?
I’d just say it’s a homemade boat and say it has no vin
Will this apply to a jetski that has never been titled nor registered anywhere in the US before?
I am confident it applies to all personal water craft (PWC)
Get your buddy to give you a bill of sale or something.
What about a 24 foot pontoon no title bill of sale but haven’t been able to contact who I bought it from I think it’s a 1970 pontoon
2 Brothers Title Co can do this for you. They did my 1996 Sea Doo. They can do any state.
How long did it take to get a new title back and what documents would they need
@@giantsquid513 1 - 2 weeks. Contact them and they will send you a list.
How do I contact them
How much is the service through 2 brothers?

You should be able to file it as a home built boat.
@@lancehooker2316 I'm gonna try that.. Thankyou Lance!
Nice im over by pax river
Very similar situation and also an 85 boat. Title was lost in the mail with no tracking # . What's the vermont contact to register?

You might be able to do the abandoned boat title/registration. There are some steps involved but you should be able to do it with the above process.
Contact 2 Brothers Title Co. They will do all of this for you.
@Michael Morgan have you delt with 2brothers before? I have some questions on how the process goes
What if the person you bought it from never registered it and now he's dead
Which forms do I need to send in. Theres many different ones
The person that signs the bill of sale, does he/she have to be the last registered owner?
Yes.

Do I have to have the other person DOB To register it in Alabama?
I don’t remember needing the DOB but maybe it’s on the form?
Was the boat previously registered
Thanks brother !!!

This is no longer possible! Vt cancelled it as far as I know.
What forms did you use to register the boat and the trailer in Vermont?
Same question.
Did you guys find the form?
??
What forms did you have to fill out?
it does help ! thanks.
What form did you use?? Was it the VD-119? Did you put boat, or other on the form?

Oh maybe have a buddy fill out the seller portion on the bill of sale?
Reg 227 mussel sticker
Did you have to pay 6% sales tax on the NADA value of your boat, or did you just pay sales tax on the bill of sale amount?
I did have to pay the tax for what was on the bill of sale.
This isn’t in Florida is it.
No, but it should still apply.
You don’t need proof of residency?
I have not lived in VT in over 20 years. I submitted the paperwork they asked for and they sent me the tags and stickers within about 2 weeks.
