Try a Buddha's Hand (or Buddha's Fingers) cake. It's like dragonfruit, but more demented. And bonus, you can use some of the zest from it to flavor your buttercream. I think you can pull this off. In fact, I know you can!

I´m from Germany and my heart bled when I saw the blackforest cake 💔🍒 That´s everything, but not a blackforest cake. This is a real blackforest cake: one layer of chocolate cake (biscuit, sprikled with a little bit of cherry brandy), one layer of whipped cream with canned cherries, one layer of cake, one layer of whipped cream, one layer of cake. The whole cake is covered with whipped cream and shredded chocolate. There are twelve dots of whipped cream on top of the cake, and every dot has a cherry on top. There is also a big dot with a cherry in the middle of the cake. I saw so many "german" cakes in american videos on TH-cam and it makes me always sad to see what happend with our cake culture. Cake is a really big thing here in Germany and it has a long tradition, we have so many different types of cakes. We definitely have more than a thousand different types of cake, and here in Northgermany, where I life, we have a daily tea time with some cookies or cake, like the people in the UK. My Granduncle was a pastry chef and I have more than 100 of his recipes. I have an idea for a new format: cake around the world 🌍🍰you could try to make cakes from other countries with the traditional recipes, not with the american version of cakes from abroad. I can definitely help you with german cakes ;)

I also think the fact you used cheaper food colouring actually helped you in this case to make the cake slightly uneven and spotty in the colouration. It looks great like always.

The fact that you did this with plastic cutlery, knives,l and your bare hands shows how much you’ve improved over the years. And that you can get the job with your surroundings and how far effort can get you. 💚
My kids and I have started making “hyper realistic” cakes out of play dough. We make different play dough sculptures then cut them open to see a different color in the middle and reveal that it’s actually “cake” inside. Thanks for being such an inspiration and a wonderful role model!
