Only Pinocchio remake I watched was Guillermo Del Toro's. And I loved it. But seriously.. the more live actions Disney pumps out, the more souless they become. I miss the 2-D/3-D stuff. Why can't they bring THAT back? 😔
How about for a Hawaiian mythology story they do the story about how Pele created the islands running from her sister and then became the Goddess Pele.
Oh come on I can't believe it. Another one? I agree we really don't need that. Animated Moana was absolutely brilliant in my eyes, and Disney has a thing in destroying these wonderful movies in live action remakes. I don't know anything about Hawaiian mythology, I will go to research it soon and learn some stories. I do however wonder- Are Teka and Tefiti were real deities of Hawaiian mythology? And if they were I hope they are similar or accurate to what we got on screen.
I mean Maui have the Rock tatos and he is the voice actor of it and he already build will, just a suit to make him more muscelar and a hiar and boom you got Maui
I love the original Moana. It literally makes me cry every single time I watch it without fail at least twice. Will I be watching the live action remake? No, because the original is already perfect. Why would I want the same thing again just without the stylistically interesting visuals?
Since you are The Mythology Guy, I do want to ask, have you watched the 1986 movie "Valhalla"? It's a good animated movie that tells the story of Thor, Loki and the Tjalfe and Röskva traveling to Utgard
Lol this movie hasnt even been out 10 years abd they already doing a remake?! Disney needs to calm tf down with these, cartoon movies are just fine left as cartoons
I love the story where the three ice/mist/snow sisters are lava sledding and (i forget her name) the volcano goddess comes along and challenges them to a race, and when she loses, she starts throwing lava around and the sisters have to freeze the volcano she’s using to throw lava around.
The last ORIGINAL Disney movie I watched was Coco (cried over it and vowed to never watch it again because i don't want to cry lol). I keep forgetting about Soul, so I'll be getting to that. But at this point, I'm so tired of Disney's lackluster remakes that literally no one wanted. Loved Cinderella (2015) and Beauty and the Beast (2017) and yes you can roast me for that Beauty and the Beast was SO wacky but after that, absolutely not. Totally agree with everything Mythology Guy is saying. There is SO MUCH within the same culture Disney can do, but they're totally unwilling.
Honestly I miss Disney 2d animation. The last 2d was the princess and the frog. And that movie was great because it had the classic Disney tropes, a great villain with an epic song, a princess who wants to do something no one thinks she can, a prince who is out of his depth try to figure out what to do, and side characters who are only small pieces on their own but when put together by the main characters in the right way create the solution to the problem so the main characters can learn all the important lessons from them.
While I dislike the live action remakes and don't see the point in watching them, something I would love to see are stage production versions of the movies. Not even in the theatre, but just a recording on DVD, with different camera angles and close ups. Though I've got to admit that the idea of seeing the same cast in a live action setting is interesting. Though I guess most of the world will be CGI anyways. Not looking forward to "Shiny" at all.
1:16 Sadly that was never gonna happen, because that poor excuse of a film SOMEHOW was by far the most successful live action disney film to date (1600+ millions)
Disney truly on a speedrun into going bankrupt from never learning from their mistakes Keeps hitting rock bottom and keep drilling further down Never underestimate the determination of stupid people
I think the problem is Disney is remaking movies that are already pretty great, there’s no room to expand. And they make very little changes, or uninteresting ones when they do. I would love to see them adapt other fairytales they haven’t done yet. Or if they have to remake something I honestly think an adaptation of the black cauldron could be interesting to do, it has potential, the original has its moments but could still be improved upon, and it has a cult following so the audience is there.
Maui prequel is what he did with the scorpion king. A live action movie that treads new ground, either as a sequel, a prequel, or as a story that occurred alongside would be awesome. Maleficent was fun for this reason. There are so many culturly important stories and myths to pull from, like the many western European fairy tales and mythological characters they've pulled from. There's a whole world out there.
A Moana 2 would require talented writers...Disney is apparently allergic to talented writers or cgi artists...and they'd just make all the characters different for the sake of DEI.

I actually wonder if Dwayne's daughter may have been an influence in this, not directly, but maybe Dwayne Johnson remembers how much she used to adore the character in Moana so he got the idea to use the Live Action trend to push this project idea to the Disney dweebs for the approval of starting the production.
I love Moana and I was really hoping that they wouldn't make it into a live action. I don't know if I will watch it because I love the rock a lot (favorite actor) and I might watch it for him. (Only if it's free).
I knew this was coming. I’m Polynesian and I remember being so so excited when Moana came out because it was the first major film that I knew of since Lilo and Stitch that had Polynesian representation. But instead of exploring more of our beautiful culture in an animated sequel , we’re instead getting a shitty live action remake. What a shame. I’m not even going to watch it tbh 🤦🏽♀️ I just want to add that Polynesia isn’t just Hawaii. It encompasses a wide range of cultures and mythologies. There’s Tahaitian, Samoan, Cook Island Māori, Tongan, Māori etc. and Moana is based on all of them. We’re all family but we’ve also got our own histories and cultures.
I just saw a Facebook post yesterday saying that Moana’s VA is NOT coming back for the live action remake. I also vaguely remember seeing announcement a while ago saying we were going to get a Moana 2.
I think the end of Moana is a really good setup, not just for a sequel movie but a sequel series. With a series they could either have one big plot or many mini plots that each connect to a different polynesian myth (or both if they were daring). I would watch that...probably.
The more i rewatch the old media of Disney, the more it hurts by how the spirit of their art lost their ways, which i should be feeling this way with their new products but they're so out of life, yet i shouldn't feel surprised..
You know when Disney wasn't so woken so vain I would had like them to make a Nordic princess and put the Nordic mythological gods and everything I would just love that Nordic mythology doesn't get talked about a lot
At this point, no matter which way you look at it, it's obvious Disney is just doing this for the money, who actually asked for a live action Moana remake?
3:54 I actually haven’t seen it but it’s on the list, along with Encanto. I have seen Co Co which omg is one of THE most beautifully animated movies I’ve ever seen.
Hey I just understood something that Disney might intended or not that In the end of the movie of Heracles when he is going for Megara, he rode Cerberus like he finished the 12th labour in the myths without any weapon and that where the similarity ended in that scene
Your question at the end makes me realize I completely wasted the 4 years I spent stationed in Hawaii because despite me wanting to so badly, I never made the trip to the Polynesian cultural center despite becoming absolutely fascinated by the culture that still exists for the most part on that little island paradise.
Disney movie inspired my Midsummer Night's Dream and another inspired by Othello A Pixar movie about a little girl or boy suffering with Autism in the 90's and learning to deal with their disability A Disney adaptation of Les Miserables (the made Notre Dame work after all) or, better yet, Disney does The 3 Musketeers (not the Donald, Goofy, Mikie one) An animated movie adaptation of a Korean folktale about a young woman who's father is blind and she is betrothed to the Dragon king, then becomes empress of Korea and her tears heal her father's blindness That's 6 really good movie ideas right there! Hell, put me on the Disney writing team, coach, I'm ready!
I guess since nothing is out of reach of modern Disney they are going to remake Fantasia. Which is one of my _favourite_ Disney films because it was just beautiful. Walter Elias Disney was an absolute genius when it came to pushing animation and entertainment forward (most of the time).
I swear oneof these days disney is just going to stop making movies and just start using movie theaters as billboards saying "GIVE US YOUR MONEY" and update disney+'s terms of service to say users are now contractually prohibited from canceling their subscriptions for a period of 300 years (including the descendants of the original account holder) and disney has the right to charge any amount for any reason
I’m just gonna assume a live action Moana is the blood price whatever poor director is gonna be stuck filming this thing had to pay to get their dream project funded. Time will tell if I’m right.
Honestly what I hate most is how just completely uninteresting visually these remakes are since they have to work within the severe limitations of the live action medium vs animation where you can do a lot more, and arguably cheaper, and actors can be more expressive and the so much more colour in the enviroments.
@@jeffreygao3956 NO. That steaming pile of dogshit is awful and whoever made it deserves the mark of shame branded on their nutsack. It is less faithful than the Percy Jackson movies. Yes, I said it.
I feel that Disney have missed a really good opportunity with making Multiple Avengers kind of series (really broad and long) with every fricking myth they have worked on. One Greek/Roman, one polonesian, one Chinese etc. Every single one of them could have multiple (main) movies with multiple side (character) movies, like how the avengers have specific captain America; iron man w.m. Hell disney owns marvel, and I am sure that a mythological movie series of specific mythos from different cultures would get more people than the fricking avengers, it would probably get more people interested in the mythos itself, while also they can have multiple teams work on different series at the same time so we would maybe get 5 movies about different mythos at the same time while also being better, since hello most people have at least heard something about the myths and legends from their own culture.

@@TheMythologyGuy1 With all the small series they’ve been making, why hasn’t this been one of them? They clearly have the source material to make Your Welcome work, so why not?
@@TheMythologyGuy1 hey bro please play shin megami tensei game , unless you are just pretending to like mythology 😣😣😣
Honestly a "Tales of Maoi" series sounds like a really cool Idea
That isn't even a debate. Wally stomps.
My favorite part of Moana is when Dwayne (the rock) Johnson said “It’s welcoming time” and sang “you’re welcome” all over the place
I don't get why they can't just make a Moana 2 because the fans have been asking for it for years. I bet it would also do amazing at the box office.
At least they chose The Rock to be Maui. He's honestly the best pick
Would've made a brilliant April Fool's announcement.
For a direct answer, no you don't.
Reporter: what inspired you to make the Moana remake?
Disney: MONEY
HAS IT EVEN BEEN 5 YEARS since the original Moana? Why make a remake of a relatively new IP?
I would pay at least $1,000 for Tamatoa spinoff. Instead, they made yet another live action we don't care about😮💨
Y'know what? Hulabaloo and Alex Henderson's "Red Bill and White Rhino" movie look like interesting projects by indie animators.
"So what inspired you to make a live action remake?"
"Money!"
"did anyone watch the pinocchio remake unironically? anyone at all?" i didn't even know that there was a pinocchio remake that was news to me
2:14, and the thing is, if they wanted to revisit Moana then they could just make a sequel
Bro, why you make The Rock look like a Neanderthal in the thumbnail?
Disney: what can I say except you’re welcome!
I was done with Disney live action the moment i heard a Lilo and Stitch remake movie.
Since you are The Mythology Guy, I do want to ask, have you watched the 1986 movie "Valhalla"?
It's a good animated movie that tells the story of Thor, Loki and the Tjalfe and Röskva traveling to Utgard
the last Disney live-action remake I watched was Maleficent and that was on a DVD I borrowed from a friend.
I would buy tickets for a “Your Welcome” movie! Maui’s origin hero story would be really cool
Coco and Soul are Pixar so...
@Jeffrey Gao Disney owns Pixar so
What are your thoughts on Encanto if I may ask?
@@ghostchannel4766 I've never seen it.
@@ghostchannel4766 I like it. ANOTHER!
I can't believe they just cast a regular crab with rhinestones glued on.
Or maybe make these disney remakes a mixture between the Disney version and the orignal versions of the story
1:16 Sadly that was never gonna happen, because that poor excuse of a film SOMEHOW was by far the most successful live action disney film to date (1600+ millions)
Honestly a "Tales of Maoi" series sounds like a really cool Idea
When you show the Hawaiian gods at 2:51 That was from marvel comics correct?
This is basically
Disney try not to make another live action remake challenge impossible:
Disney truly on a speedrun into going bankrupt from never learning from their mistakes
Keeps hitting rock bottom and keep drilling further down
Never underestimate the determination of stupid people
I think the problem is Disney is remaking movies that are already pretty great, there’s no room to expand.
What's next, Disney decide to make Pocahontas live action......
oh boy, I can't wait for the live action remake of Zootopia that will evntually happen x_x
*shudders*
I don't even want to think about what that trainwreck would look like
thank you for making this man tbh this is how i feel for the live action moana hys btw i want to see a moana 2 or muai movie or show the live action thing is the last that i want
A sequel would have been better, but knowing current Disney they probably would have just made it bad.
"Maui's backstory is interesting" *Literally shows Maui's back story*
Actually, it would make more sense to do a Maui Prequel Series so it could be more in depth.
That hill sliding one with the four goddesses.
You're a brave soldier Mythology Guy, because TH-cam creators like You save the rest of us a lot of time from those "lazy products" of companies like Disney.
Thank You, I love Your channel :)
I actually wonder if Dwayne's daughter may have been an influence in this, not directly, but maybe Dwayne Johnson remembers how much she used to adore the character in Moana so he got the idea to use the Live Action trend to push this project idea to the Disney dweebs for the approval of starting the production.
As a person who still remembers getting a day off school for king Kamehameha day i would watch that movie
I love Moana and I was really hoping that they wouldn't make it into a live action. I don't know if I will watch it because I love the rock a lot (favorite actor) and I might watch it for him. (Only if it's free).
Theyre already talking about making Hercules live action to, watch out for that one lol
I’m not even going to watch it tbh 🤦🏽♀️
I just want to add that Polynesia isn’t just Hawaii. It encompasses a wide range of cultures and mythologies. There’s Tahaitian, Samoan, Cook Island Māori, Tongan, Māori etc. and Moana is based on all of them. We’re all family but we’ve also got our own histories and cultures.
THANKYOU!!
I just saw a Facebook post yesterday saying that Moana’s VA is NOT coming back for the live action remake. I also vaguely remember seeing announcement a while ago saying we were going to get a Moana 2.
Hi love your videos, keep up the good work
Thank you
I think the end of Moana is a really good setup, not just for a sequel movie but a sequel series.
My first reaction was "what? Did they run out of classics to remake?"
A movie about journey to the West can be an amazing movie😊
No, as a polynesian dont even dare do this disney
I’d definitely watch a Moana 2, not sure what they’re thinking with this
You know when Disney wasn't so woken so vain I would had like them to make a Nordic princess and put the Nordic mythological gods and everything I would just love that Nordic mythology doesn't get talked about a lot
At this point, no matter which way you look at it, it's obvious Disney is just doing this for the money, who actually asked for a live action Moana remake?
3:54
I actually haven’t seen it but it’s on the list, along with Encanto. I have seen Co Co which omg is one of THE most beautifully animated movies I’ve ever seen.
Hollywood NEEDS to hire this guy as a writer
Hey I just understood something that Disney might intended or not that In the end of the movie of Heracles when he is going for Megara, he rode Cerberus like he finished the 12th labour in the myths without any weapon and that where the similarity ended in that scene
I’d much rather see them remake movies that didn’t go so well and try to improve them
They wouldn't do that because they'd think it's a risky decision and it would take effort so sorry
@The Mythology Guy do you think you could do a everything Dante's Inferno got wrong. The game to the poem.
What would your reaction be if they remade Hurcules.... BUT! they cast Taron Egerton, and renamed the movie Heraclese?
Your question at the end makes me realize I completely wasted the 4 years I spent stationed in Hawaii because despite me wanting to so badly, I never made the trip to the Polynesian cultural center despite becoming absolutely fascinated by the culture that still exists for the most part on that little island paradise.
Now I want a Maui prequel!
Disney movie inspired my Midsummer Night's Dream and another inspired by Othello
A Pixar movie about a little girl or boy suffering with Autism in the 90's and learning to deal with their disability
A Disney adaptation of Les Miserables (the made Notre Dame work after all) or, better yet, Disney does The 3 Musketeers (not the Donald, Goofy, Mikie one)
An animated movie adaptation of a Korean folktale about a young woman who's father is blind and she is betrothed to the Dragon king, then becomes empress of Korea and her tears heal her father's blindness
That's 6 really good movie ideas right there!
As you talk about Disney, what you think about their Percy Jackson and Olympian Gods series?
Honestly what I hate most is how just completely uninteresting visually these remakes are since they have to work within the severe limitations of the live action medium vs animation where you can do a lot more, and arguably cheaper, and actors can be more expressive and the so much more colour in the enviroments.
Damn now I really want a Disney animated movie on the two gods that went from enemies to lovers 🥺
Oh God, this is going to go the way of the halo TV show
But at least the Halo show is better than this?
@@jeffreygao3956 NO. That steaming pile of dogshit is awful and whoever made it deserves the mark of shame branded on their nutsack. It is less faithful than the Percy Jackson movies. Yes, I said it.
At 9:50 it’s “Hera”cles
1:05 The Lion King remake actually earned $1 Billion at the box office. But it did have some flaws and had some mixed reception.
There making a remake. Why???
I got a live action Moana ad on this video.
You always do good takes
