Not just lazy its disrespectful. Waiting 50 to 60 yrs to use a prominent character and give them a black face and say "here you go black people, dont say we didnt do anything for you!. Its this case of identity theft in terms of branding that I despise.
@@Roty24-f6s He's not saying that those characters weren't already used in mainstream midia, he's saying that the *creators* waited all this time JUST so they could raceswap those characters.
It's disrespectful to black people "Here's your representation, now shut up." It's disrespectful to white people "Your characters are meaningless until they're not white." It's disrespectful to fans "We don't care about legacy or your emotional investment in the characters." It's disrespectful to the original creators "They may have represented someone or something near and dear to you, but now they're representing someone and something else. Sorry not sorry." There's no angle where race swapping isn't the worst idea ever. Even when it's done "well", i.e. Ultimate Nick Fury or Miles Morales, it's still not a good idea because for every time it works out there are a thousand times when it didn't.
"Why do you care about a character's skin colour if it doesnt affect their character?" "You're being a racist right now" "Woke agenda? Messaging? This is inclusivity and representation!" "They are being creative! You're just being racist" These arguments i've heard over and over and over and over again and at this point idc anymore.
Im a white guy so take my opinion on this with a grain of salt. But to me race swapping always felt disrespectful because it feels like im being told black characters cannot make it on their own so they have to take the mantle of a white character that is already recognizable rather than trying to build up someone new and interesting.
Nah, just be honest. It's not very aesthetic. Black Panther is a good character because he was made with the explicit intention of repping Black culture. Swapping Norman is like making Goku Indian. It's like your mom cleaned your room while you were at school and she got rid of your manga collection and replaced it with Funko Pops. You get home and your room looks unrecognizable.
Why? Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else's. Don't let these commie, Marxist puppets that infest main stream media and social media make you think that you can't have an opinion on a subject just because it centers around Black culture. As you can see, there ae plenty of us Black people who feel 100 % the same way you do!
Black artist here. Thank you. Preach. Cuz I've been saying this all my time as a digital artist on the internet: MAKE 👏 YOUR 👏 OWN 👏 FUCKING 👏 CHARACTERS! Shine a spotlight on those original stories and stop calling other black creators "self hating" just cuz we don't settle for sloppy seconds.
the most annoying part about this is there are original black spiderman villains and original black spiderman characters that they could use at any time but choose not to.
@@vipinroshanak7381 even if there aren't that many original black spiderman characters that's still not an excuse for lazy race swaps of classically white characters, and if they really cared about representation so much they could still make an effort to use actual original black spiderman characters from the comics.

@@IdlemageNah. Comics Bucky is too much mess-- there's 3 Buckys that I am aware of, including a female Bucky. 2nd Bucky (James Monroe III) was to the 2nd Cap (not Steve Rogers) that became U.S. Agent, and that Bucky became Nomad. I believe MCU did follow canon where 1st Bucky became The Winter Soldier. Haven't seen that movie (oddly enough), but I recall it being well received, so, no, I can't imagine. Marvel might have taken this direction with TV/streaming if Captain America: The First Avenger had bombed. Maybe.
At this point this whole race swapping characters thing is getting out of hand. Like I don't need my favorite characters in games, anime, & movie race swapped that represents me as a black person.

Yes, but that one actually improved the character. Sam L. Jackson has that magic touch. I don't know how it's affected comics Fury, but Eath's Mightiest Heroes felt like an ideal Fury to me.

The thing that bugs me is that whenever they use a character of color, their main personality trait is always their culture. A great character doesn’t rely on that, it’s one dimensional. A character that doesn’t rely on culture is better represented in my book. Because than the writers have to work on why and how the character truly is unique and different than others than just stereotypes.
100 % agree with you. I've never thought about or wanted characters like Spawn, Blade, Morpheus, or Static to be white. As you said, it's just extremely lazy.
Wait, if Norman Osborne is now black and Peter is white, how can Norman be the villain? Norman can only be evil because he's a rich, white capitalist right?
That’s just it, in this universe they made him a mentor good guy to Parker instead of Tony stark, because only white guys can be evil greedy and capitalistic right?
The only acceptable swap for Norman Osborn is to make him wear a little hat and put him in charge of an investment banking firm. His villain origin story is that he tried to seize Aunt May's house because she was one month behind on the interest payments of her mortgage. He also uses his influence at Empire State University to stop protests about the Latverian-Wakandan conflict. That's right. This version of Norman Osborn is secretly Latverian, but he pretends to be a regular Anglo-American so he can carry out his secret plan. His big plan is to turn Miles against Peter by telling him Peter is uniquely evil and turn Peter against Miles by telling him Miles is too dumb. Miles and Peter need to put aside their differences and fight together to stop Norman from influencing the United States government to help Latveria become the world capital of a new global empire.
Norman was already cool with the waves. They did not have to raceswap the man 🤧 Also, what's up with them targeting gingers specifically? Erasing one representation to bring up another feels backwards to me. If you want black representation. Make new characters. If they're good, people will gravitate to them.
Preeetty sure it's coincidental...idk why that list is even brought up especially when some ginger chrs are A. Not even human Or B. Weren't even ginger originally 😭 There are SO many other black washes done by non ginger chrs so I'm genuinely confused why people there's a connection here 💀

As much as I agree with your video, I will die on the hill that Michael Clarke Duncan was the superior Kingpin. That being said, I hated Miles’ story in Spider-Man 2, and didn’t even finish the game when Sony said he’s the main character going forward.
I agree. I'm Gen X, so I reckon when Kingpin was first conceived, stereotypes of Italian Americans as gangsters in NYC was still pretty fresh. It was still relatively strong in my early childhood through the mid 70s to early 80s. But as a teen in the 90s, I saw the gangster stereotype slowly shifting to the black American. Although I was surprised to see a black Kingpin in Daredevil, yes, I was sold on Michael Clark Duncan's performance partly because of that shift. I also noted his lauded performance in The Green Mile, so that might have been a factor.
@@jaklumenWas Wilson Fisk of Italian/Sicilian descent in the comics? I just figured him as a New Yorker, and Duncan’s build/performance nailed how I saw the character?
I'm tired of these race-swaps, too, man. That crap got old real quick. I'm tired of it and so is everyone else. Let established characters stay as the race they were when they were created
No one gonna talk about Mj in the MCU? Thing is she's not even "Mary-Jane Watson" She mention her full name is "Michelle Jones". She's not even a WATSON! So she's not even the same character at all! Their just trolling with the fans!

thank you so much for addressing this, they don't include progressive ideologies because they genuinely care or like diversity at all, they just care about the money
They don't care about any of us regardless of color. Issac from Castlevania is one of my favorite characters & it's because he was wrote a great character NOT to pander.
I'm glade the blade movie isn't being made i don't want them to f him up and just do the stereotypical thing they been doing like male character being sideline for a girl boss .
As a white guy so just keep in mind, but the whole raceswap of white to black looks like the biggest backhand any company can do... because instead of making a oc balck character that will have ups and downs but that oc can stand on their on with the names likes of spawn, blade, statick shock, bishop, black lighting, John Stewart, luke cage, and so many more but instead they take a pre established character that doesn't have the skin color they wanted so all they do is twik the background and give them a daker shade of skin. Now which one sounds like no effort was given or they're trying to make original works.
Spider Man literally has supporting characters like Rocket Racer and The Prowler who are literally black characters and original, how hard is that? They can easily adapt them and put them in this new show.
Tbf, Sam Wilson becoming Captain America is comic accuracy (since 2015), and a Black character taking up the mantle isn’t the same as race swapping for no reason.
@ Yes, and? That’s irrelevant to my point, never said Bucky wasn’t a candidate. I’m simply justifying Sam’s Captain America as not race swapping, it’s just a Black character taking on a mantle.
I came to say the same exact thing Sam became Captain America in Captain America Vol 7 #25 which came out 2014. I don’t think people understand the difference between race swapping a character and a character taking up the mantle. Like Steve might be the most famous captain America but he’s not the only captain America. It’s like saying Green lantern got raced swapped because John Stewart is black but being Green Lantern is a mantle that can be wielded by anyone who has the Will not an original character lol.
@@Nunbutvibesant I agree with you, with one caveat : you need to establish the character taking the mantle before they take the mantle. Sam Wilson is a full-fledged character even without Captain's shield. Or X-32 becoming for a while Wolverine. But look at how they tried to replace Ironman with Iron-heart... It was a failure not because iron-heart is a black women, but because she wasn't interesting to begin with.
we've been saying this for years, stop race swapping, create something new, give us new stories to enjoy. sadly the industry still doesn't get the message...

I’m Hispanic and feel I have no right to speak on a Black man creator and his gripes about race swapping, but Sam becoming Captain America seemed, uh, noncontroversial to me anyways because based on the movies, Sam and Steve bond on the fact that they served in the military, and coming back to “normal” society feels, well, not normal. Then Steve goes to Sam in a time of need, and Sam is ready to follow Steve into the fray, because he is Captain America shit; I would follow him as well. So when Endgame came around and Steve gave Sam his shield, it felt more like passing on a mantle than race swapping.
I’m Hispanic and I think we didn’t get enough time with Sam to make it feel like a true passing of the mantle. We didn’t get enough time seeing Sam as his own hero or getting his own big wins.
I agree man. It would only be race swapping if Steve himself was black, and he's not. Captain America is a mantle and a symbol. It's not a birthright. Everyone can't be Thor Odinson. But the mantle of Captain America can be passed onto someone who has the morals and values as Steve Rogers and what America represents, and it seems like people rather Bucky or John Walker be Captain America, than an American like Sam who shares the same morals and values as Steve.
Having both Sam and Miles as your examples of blackwash was an terrible example because they’re both their own characters, Sam does eventually become Captain America in the comics so The MCU is being faithful with his character And Miles becomes his own version of spider man just like Ben, Gwen and Miguel, There’s is nothing wrong for a character to become the next spider man, captain America or whatever superhero they become
I laugh because most of these folks didn't even know Black Panter was until the movie came out, and he'd been around since 1966, and I'm 59, I read comics in the 70s and 80s as a kid, I had a bunch of Black Panther comics!!
THE HARDER THEY FALL was a fantastic example!. If you want an equal example as well if you haven't seen it, the original POSSE did the very same thing back in the '90s!
To be honest, Norman and Harry race swapped into a black person doesn't bother me too much. I think as long as they keep some aspects of the character that's iconic, as well as adding in some things that's actually reasonable for that new version as long as it isn't surrounding their race and the creators aren't saying dumb shit like "oh, we wanna represent black people more", I don't mind it too much. Of course, there are definitely some examples that work like Nick Fury, there's some examples that never bothered to change or add anything new and it still managed to work fine like MJ and maybe Jimmy Olsen from Adventures with Superman, and of course theres the 90% that works as well as trying to go through a normal TikTok page. (Spoilers: nothing there is normal) Velma and "Norville" is a big example on making a change for no fucking reason. Velma isn't even a nerd at all in the show and Norville doesn't even have the same qualities as the original Shaggy. Fucking Shaggy from Scoob! Is more faithful to the character, and I fucking despise that movie with the fiber of my being. And what makes those worse is that they actively make fun of the stuff they are based on constantly. So not only are they worthless versions of the iconic Scooby-Doo characters, but they are actively making fun of it and saying it's shit. At least the Daphne & Velma movie doesn't disrespect the original source material despite also having some unnessicary race change (and being a bad film overall but at least that movie is watchable). Does the Norman and Harry race swap have potential to be at the bottom of the bunch of race swaps? Yeah, there's a chance, but I do think that there's a teeny tiny chance of the race swap being just tolerable. Not great, not terrible, just tolerable like CW Kid Flash for example. Hell, it even has an even SMALLER chance of actually being part of the good race swaps like Nick Fury. This also go towards gender swaps also. As long as they made the change somewhat reasonable as well as different from the original character as long as it isn't dumb shit like "oh we didn't have enough female characters" or "oh we wanna represent women more", I'm fine with it as long as the adaptation is tolerable.
Youngrippa59 is right about how Miles Morales is a tokenized character and Peter Parker is the real spider man. You can argue that Miles is raceswapped.
Gun to your head name me 10 things similar with miles n Peter And no "they both makes quips" doesn't count .. which even then they have different styles- Miles is an ORIGINAL character.. something y'all always cry y'all want. An original character can still take an already existing mantle and ... still be his character... literally always happens comics💀
@@sup3414 Fun fact: Miles didn't start as a tokenized "spiderman replacement", he was in his own universe where peter was dead. The issues started later when they moved Miles to the mainline and tried to push Peter out for a decade

I'll say this, what if instead of calling Sam Wilson "Captain America", call him an amalgamation of the Falcon and Captain America, something like Soaring Stars, American Eagle, maybe Captain Falcon cuz WHY NOT
I'll admit that I've tried to stay completely silent about all this because I am white and didn't want to offend anyone. But I'm also a natural red-head. Your video is the first of its kind that I've ever seen! Here was my argument in my head: "Gamora is green. They better not change her color. Nebula better be blue. The Thing better stay orange. Red Hulk better stay red." And...all those colors stayed true when made into live-action and animated shows. So why is it so hard to keep red-heads Irish? Red-heads are literally only 1% of the population! Why do we keep losing red-heads to race-swapping? I'm sure someone will yell at me about my non-progressive thinking, but I feel it goes along with what you were saying. Jimmy Olsen was a red-headed geek, just like me. I LIKED seeing a red-headed geek sharing page-space with Superman. I don't expect to see a white, red-headed Blade fighting vampires, nor would I want that at all. Blade is absolutely freaking awesome, and the original movie is my favorite vampire movie of all time (although Dusk to Dawn is a close second). Feels good to finally type all that out. You've gained a subscriber.
Fully agree it’s dumb and specially messing with the lore. They trying to make Spider-Man more hip, I use that word for a reason. Miles covers that cool factor while staying a nerd. I want to say one name static shock, that was a great character who birthed several other great characters.
The thing I find most hilarious is with Disney, if they wanted a black princess for their remake, they could've so easily just remade Princess and the Frog! Boom! Problem solved! Is that what they did? No! Instead they decided "Ehhh let's just take a beloved Disney princess and race swap her, I'm sure it'll be fine."
It is very lazy and even more racist to all races and it’s annoying that they don’t have the mental capacity to actually create original characters and stories and if they want to make black characters just make a story about Africa also im tired of movies all about black slaves or mostly every black character in all these movies where the black characters always talk about being black and hating white people and being racist to them.
10:17 Disney’s ‘The Princess and the Frog’ was partly based on E. D. Baker’s 2002 novel ‘The Frog Princess’ about a [ginger; green eyed] Princess named Emeralda, aka Emma, who accidentally becomes a frog via kissing the Frog Prince.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. I think they did not make Bucky Captain America because they wanted Winter Solider for Thunderbolts, making Sam the only other choice.
Didn't Brian Michael Bendis create Miles Morales because he wanted a hero for his children to look up to? He's far beyond a race swapped character, and this is from someone who is annoyed by race swapping, poor writing and very niche and controversial politics being inserted into genuine and well written stories. Miles Morales is incredibly unique from Peter Parker in that he is an incredibly artistic individual. He struggles with his relationship with his parents and has to absolve his own selfish desires over his responsibilities towards others. He has to, or had to, deal with the fact that his uncle was a notorious thief who has murdered innocent people.
The video's owner doesn't know much about the subject matter. He just gets his talking point from other idiots, who know nothing about the subject matter.
To me this is like Marvel reaching out to TRULY black characters and telling them "you're not good enough to represent this group, so let's steal a character from another group to do this in your place".
1:56 Captain America is a mantle just like how Black Panther is a mantle, in the comics there have been at least 11 people who put on the mantle of Captain America, out of the 11 didn't Sam Wilson put on the mantle? How many different white characters became Captain America before Wilson? Why the hate, isn't he an original black character? Is he not original no more because he takes on the mantle of his best friend? lol this is how they get you to feel, what this is woke? Have you read the terrible storyline they gave Sam Wilson when he became Captain America in the comics, it hurt the character and that was on purpose. How about the MCU deliberately debut Sam Wilson where you couldn't see him in the costume until the last clip of Falcon & The Winter Soldier, blurred in red for most of the time lol, what they care? They don't care about diversity, they are pretending to.
The main problem is consistency and how it's handled. Most superheroes are individual. You can get some groups like the Fantastic Four and the Green Lanterns, but a majority of the time, they're individuals. First, it's branding. The original hero is the main attraction. They are the star. If you go to a basketball show to see LeBron James, you aren't going to be too happy when you have LeBron James JR. It's probably not the best example, but still. That's the character people want to see. Just as they want to see Black Panther. They want T'challa. So, having his sister take his place, bit underwhelming. And it feels lazy. People connect to these characters. They can't be replaced. And that ties in to continuity and expectations. I see a Mars bar, I expect a chocolate bar with caramel filling. Even duplicate copies often try to stand out. War Machine, Reverse Flash, Yellow Lantern, Ocean Master, etc. Yeah, they're basically the same, but they try to stand out. Some characters who have been in the shadow of the original can stand out like Robin. People prefer Nightwing and Red Hood whilst Robin was made to be a mantle as each Robin grew up. The issue with Sam and all these race swaps is that they're unnecessary pandering. Sam didn't need to be Captain America as he was liked as Falcon, Bucky kinda needed it as he was still tied to his past getting mind controlled, so being Cap would have benefited him. There needs to be a valid reason for passing it on. TL;DR: Even if they want to use the mantle thing, it needs to have valid reasoning. Sam didn't need it, passed it back and forth, and it didn't benefit him. Giving Sam the mantle dumbed down his worth as he wasn't seen as valuable on his own. We can't sell a Falcon movie, but if we put him as Cap, we can sell that. Most of the time, the race swap is just changing skin colour for no reason or passing it to undeserving random people like Riri Williams.
In the comics, Sam Wilson became Captain America in All-New Captain America issue #1 in January 2015, after Steve Rogers retired. Wilson held the title of Captain America until 2017, when he returned to being Falcon. However, in Marvel, the concept of death is not as permanent as it is believed, which is why the title of Captain America always reverts to Steve Rogers.

@@Roty24-f6s He's not saying that those characters weren't already used in mainstream midia, he's saying that the *creators* waited all this time JUST so they could raceswap those characters.

It's disrespectful to white people "Your characters are meaningless until they're not white."
It's disrespectful to fans "We don't care about legacy or your emotional investment in the characters."
It's disrespectful to the original creators "They may have represented someone or something near and dear to you, but now they're representing someone and something else. Sorry not sorry."

The thing that bugs me is that whenever they use a character of color, their main personality trait is always their culture. A great character doesn’t rely on that, it’s one dimensional. A character that doesn’t rely on culture is better represented in my book.
He became a villain after getting fucked up by the evil white businessmen.
Norman is also neurodiverse, with dissociative identity disorder, and antisocial personality disorder, possibly malignant narcissism.
Marvel probably forgot about Shocker and Prowler.
Y'know, they also race swap Lex Luthor back in the 90s and nobody seemed to complain about it.

As a black man. I totally agree with this man.
(Spoilers: nothing there is normal)
Velma and "Norville" is a big example on making a change for no fucking reason.

Gon be crazy when we get Black Goku.😂
First it was Batman Caped Crusader now is this shit.
the only black people that can play any other races are, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, and Vanessa Williams, that's it.
Spot on. Completely agreed.
Bro is making a good point
10:17 Disney’s ‘The Princess and the Frog’ was partly based on E. D. Baker’s 2002 novel ‘The Frog Princess’ about a [ginger; green eyed] Princess named Emeralda, aka Emma, who accidentally becomes a frog via kissing the Frog Prince.
As a black comic artist, this annoys the living hell outta me.
Sam Wilson does become captain america in the comics though. They do skip Bucky and go straight for Sam Wilson.
But bucky has had the mantle of cap before bucky cap is probably one of my more favorite outfits out there
Yeah that’s what I was thinking too.
I think they did not make Bucky Captain America because they wanted Winter Solider for Thunderbolts, making Sam the only other choice.
So what? Mantles are such a lame gimmick they use to justify this lazy garbage. Don’t encourage mediocrity
From a another black brother I respect your opinion bro, keep these videos going brother.
Are yall dumb or did you not hear him say in the video, “miles morales was literally based off Obama”???
Lets all just go watch power rangers haven't been any race swaps there from the start and everyone is an original character
This is exactly why I stop watching movies, tv shows, and also stoped playing triple A games why? Cuz they’re all ruined by activist!
I Agree ... I used to spend time watching movies or TV series when I have time. This year, I spend playing e sport video games most of the time.
Great video bro, I’m subscribing.
I’m Black and Mexican and I’ve been saying this shit for almost 10 years now. Keep up the good work bro 💪🏽
Latino here. I agreed with you. The fact that these ppl kept changing original characters for minorities because "representation" iit screams out pure laziness. Is as if they are giving out scraps and leftovers is juat insulting. At this point I don't want any of it.
What do you think of Miguel as Spider-Man 2099?
This video is 100% spot on,i agree with everything you said and found it quite humorous at the same time, the way you quickly delivered........."because it doesn't f#*king matter!".........regarding the main cast in The Harder They Fall perfectly sums it all up actually,😂
It also annoys me when the people who work for Disney preach about racism but then show how racist they are by erasing white characters and making it seem like all black people wanted this.
That captain america cgi should be considered a felony
13 percent of the population, 80-to-90 percent of the representation.
Make it make sense.
Godly
why does it matter. i swear yall are just racist in hiding
White population:75.3, and they have a ton of representations so you're lying
man i'm just sad that Static isn't here yet ... i'm sure people would love, he and flash are my favorites
Another blade 🤯
Yes man Blade movie, blade game, blade tv series!!!!
