    I lowered my Fusion Ti using Steeda springs. I love the stance and handling improvement. But it was scraping when exiting a driveway and could barely clear parking bumps. That's why I bought tires that had a taller sidewall (by 0.4") and now it's perfect.

    My 335i is lowered and I had an issue where i once hit a pothole and my undercarriage shield got bent in half and lifted the car unevenly up on one side. It made steering the car difficult and I had to quickly pull over and then try and rip the shield off by hand since I didn't have tools with me to take it off properly. I was lucky that no one got hurt and other than the shield there was no other damage. After that incident my driving drastically changed with the car. Lowering the car kinda kills the fun when you have to drive the car like you are in a one sided dodgeball match.
    The roads over here are terrible too. We had our roads newly repaved in November, then comes December and they do construction into the ground and destroyed the roads they just repaved. It is almost February they work was completed but they never fixed the road.

    Honestly once you feel satisfied with your set up as a driver, get someone to drive your car and you sit as a passenger. If its too bumpy, do adjustments to Find the sweet spot of comfort and performance as a driver and passenger.

    I bought lowering springs and ebay "OEM" style replacement shocks.What I did to reduce the suspension play was add more subframe bracing and sway bars, which made the chassis much stiffer.
    The ride now feels like a middle between"firm" and "soft".Road bumps and uneven terrain don't feel as dramatic and I can actually drive through them at higher speeds.

    Recently changed my stock M140i springs, by the way, this car is not available in the US sadly, you guys don’t know what you are missing with this little beast 🤘🏼 3 Litre/6 cylinder. 0-60mph 4.6 seconds.
    Anyway, I lowered it on Eibach pros, 25mm front and 20mm at the rear. Added some wheel spacers too to give the tyres a bit more width, as well as it looking more bad ass.
    The ride feels more connected but extremely harsh. So many potholes near to me. So I’ve gone with the M Performance Springs to compliment my adaptive dampers. They offer a 10-15mm drop. Car doesn’t look as mean but it’s a compromise for the poor road surface quality.

    Regarding the pot holes and a lowered car, I totally feel you man!
    I drive a lowered E46, here in Belgium we have some of the worst roads in Europe.
    Had some nice Style 65 wheels from an M5 on my e46, tyres were nicely stretched also.
    Drove through a deep ass pothole, it instantly popped the tyre off the wheel and took a chunck out of my wheel.. another nice set of wheels lost to our crappy roads 😅

    I bought Tein lowering springs. Installed them. And was on the phone with in hours ordering a set of KW coilovers.
    I jerked those horrible lowering springs out faster than you can imagine and likely sold them for what I paid for them.
    On the E46th M3 you can get mildly lowered Eibach springs and then go to the yellow Konis and that actually will work.
    I've never ridden in a car set up that way. Everyone I know I'm serious about handling and does any kind of track work at all just gets a really nice set of coilovers.
    Mine are fine in the street as far as comfort.
    BC coilovers are a great compromise if you don't track your car or only track it very rarely. They're less expensive and give you quite a very decent pride in the street. They handle very good. Not as good as the more expensive coilovers but I've used them and I can say I am a fan.

    You youngins and your tuner instincts !
    I got an '08 E85 Z4 3.0 SI with the "sport package" .
    Even though it's a 'facelift' I saw a Z4M and suddenly had to have that front bumper.
    So that was fun doing that mod, except for how low the 'fangs ' sit.
    Actually touching up fang damage (even with metal skid plates attached) is pretty much a Spring Clean Up task.
    I believe the Sport Suspension is slightly lower, and for me that's low enough.
    One thing older folks , driving a lowered car, or as low as my Zed is, have to deal with getting into and out of the thing while still maintaining some sense of decorum !
    ps In case some think I'm a cantankerous old git, I think the tuner and modding culture is one of the best automotive trends.

    you have to take into account the most important thing: Kinematic performance of your suspension arms. They are set under a certain angle. Ideal sitting position is when inside joint of the suspension arm is sitting higher than the outside joint (check front view of modern open wheel race cars like F3 or F1, arms are not set horizontally). When you lower the car you mess things up. It might feel stiffer and you think it turns better but its ultimate kinematic performance is reduced. Do your research on how much you can lower your particular car without negatively affecting its performance.

    I am scraping my non lowered Honda Civic. I had a lowered VW Golf 3 vr6. I sold it after 3 month, because the Head Gasket was blown and the repair was too expensive for me. This Golf was ratteling like crazy when the Road was just a little bit bumpy. When it was a little more bumpy, it was also scraping and banging over the Road. If the head Gasket wouldn't have been blown then the Suspension or Axle would have been broken after a while. The Wheel bearings were already pretty loud as well.

    Having lower springs put on my daily (only) car this week but I'm not going over the top, the drop is only about 30mm, also getting new suitable KYB shocks fitted as the ones on there have done over 160,000 kays (100k miles) so hopefully I don't have any issues. We don't have snow issues here and the roads are not that bad where I normally drive. Right now I can only think of one possible car park I might have issues with, so will take it super slow the first time through.

    I have a stock MSport e90, i pulled into a parking bay and heard a slight tell tale scrape of my bumper sliding over the kerb, no big deal i thought. I reversed carefully and i presume one of the screw heads that hold the under tray to bumper grabbed hold of the kerb, I heard a crack and the chin was split in two down the middle. You have got to be so careful with these kinda things, which is why iv decided not to lower my car lol.

    Exactly true! So much goes into a proper lowered height that many don’t know about.
    I’ve had all 6 of my cars lowered with the proper suspension except the 335i. No need to lower that as it’s RWD + sport package as there isn’t any wheel gap space. Love the look with the speakers and the handling in stock form that I’m happy with 😀

    I have coilovers which I firmly believe in. But you do not have to slam the car with coilovers. You can actually raise it up to a reasonable height.
    I like it almost a full inch above most standard parking dividers. Three quarters of an inch will do as well.
    But in my area where we have a lot of road debris a full inch above Standard Parking divider is really where you want to be... no lower than that.
    Which I have had to do after ruining too many expensive bumpers.

    I have a 98 Camaro lowered an 1.5" and it SUCKS in Chicago (I have headers on it) I bought it lowered and it honestly sucks to drive unless I know the route. What sucks is I think 4th gen Camaros look hideous factory height. But I'm to the point where I want to go to factory height so I don't have to worry as much about driving it. As of now it's a DD not a race car so I think it makes sense to raise it. Im running stagg lowering springs and shocks (matching set) and the ride quality is awful. But after the headers install my clearance went from about 3" down to maybe 1". So what I'm trying to say is be aware of the modifications done to your car before lowering it or even after you lower it if you plan on daily driving it.

    One of the better disclaimer videos on lowering your car. I lowered my 2014 Corolla 6MT with Eibach’s Pro Kit 1.3” keeping the stock struts. While I like the reduced fender gap and better cornering, I’m thinking of returning my suspension back to stock. I drive on some rough roads and it rides harsh. I also drive my kids around so they do feel the bumps more. Plus I’ve scraped my front bumpers, under belly, and tail pipe numerous times already keeping in mind that I’m lowered. I’ll miss that reduced fender gap and a more planted highway feel but the negatives are more in my case that the benefits from being lowered.

    • @israelpage3663
      @israelpage3663 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm thinking about returning mine to stock as well. The part that sucks is I bought it like that. I've only scraped twice but considering its a 2020 and I'm under financing for the next 5 years I don't really want to mess up anything. I'm pretty sure it already affects the warranty on the suspension because its lowered. I honestly didn't even realize it when I got it but I've never had a lowered car. I love the way it looks and feeling more planted highway feel as well but the cons just dont seem worth it to me.

    I have some KW V1s on my 06 330xi, I love the handling, but it's my daily driver and the pot holes/speed bumps here are horrendous, I guess when 90% of the population drives pickups and SUVs it's not really a problem. The car came with the coilovers, so for a daily driver I don't think I would ever go out and buy coilovers.

    Yep researching lowering my e90 now! Thinking putting 19s before I do tho. Here in L.A. the roads are not that great either. Freeways are a mixed bag as especially some are notorious for trucking routes...nice patch for ~2m or so then turns to shit again. So yeah, at times I'm swerving or at least def keeping my eyes peeled.

      pixeldup right! They fix the same potholes over and over instead of doing it right and replacing the whole section here in LA

    And some rare cases like my car the BMW M3 E46 Edition, the ride actually is better with a good set of coilovers. The stock springs and Sachs shocks are terrible.
    My KW coilovers were pretty comfortable. BC coilovers are even more comfortable. I think the most comfortable are eibach Springs combined with koni yellow shocks. Not sure about that but I think that's the case in that order.

    You didn't mention that lowering the BMW will have more negative camber all around? With new springs and shocks installed.
    Camber plates in front? Camber arms on the rear? Alignment. Longer/normal wear & tear on the tires?

    I paid $139 for Megan racing lowering springs on stock struts and those shits ran better than stock and no, my stock springs weren’t bad.

  • @turbolabamerica
    @turbolabamerica 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you have problems with your front axle coming out as a result of lowering your car after adding camber plates to correct the alignment?

  • @zztop7000
    @zztop7000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm thinking about lowering my car but it cost more in long run speed bump passengers potholes tires wear out quickly. It's better just leave it to manufacturer specification I've been driving my car almost 12 years never had problems underneath my car.

    shame you didnt reaserch how to jack your car properly, your bmw has a floating rear diff, you really should not jack the car up using your diff, use your sill jacking points or you will damage the bushes the diff is mounted on.

    • @benb1022
      @benb1022 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      true, there is a jack point you could use BEHIND the read diff (more towards the engine) but not the diff case

      @sweetmarch251 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Then where would you place jackstands if needed when the jacking points are already occupied?

    Yeah, can't justify going low and slow, at least not for my car. I like taking bumps and not having to worry too much about driveways - my car is stock height and it still scrapes due to the incline to get into the driveway.

    I lowered my 03 Cobra this summer. My main problem is that because I have a convertible there is this extra X brace on the front that hangs LOW. That brace scrapes all the time. Drives me nuts. The factory Bilsteins don't work well with the springs. So I'm thinking of going with some adjustable Konis.

    Oh man, I just ordered the same setup as you've got with H&R sports springs and the b8 Bilstein shocks and am hoping like hell the ride doesn't get too stiff and hard. I had seen a couple other youtube videos and felt like most were saying the ride remained pretty stock and comfortable.....it's on my A7 daily driver and am not digging the idea of a harder feel...
