  • Long awaited maiden flight of my Align Trex 470lp!! Well what can I say!! very nervous but a briliant maiden flight. Very pleased with the way the Trex flew but just a tiny bit of tail wag to sort out.

      Yes it's 6s as standard Mark, a big jump up in power from 3s!! The 470lp is quite a bit bigger than the Blade 330s 😀👍

    I've been waiting on this one. I appreciate the smack-style flyers and crazy 3D, but I much prefer smooth scale-style, light aerobatics, and big air. That other stuff is just too spastic for an older almost-geezer like me.
    And don't get caught up in metal "upgrades" too much, unless you just want it for the bling. I've seen a couple pilots smacking the crap out of their LPs and everything holds up just fine. I sent my LP in head-first, inverted, and at idle up (2750 rpm) and all I had to replace was a main gear. Broke the bank at $1.70 (one out of a 3-pack).
    All this heli needs is either Align 74mm tail blades or RotorTech 71mm tail blades. I have the RotorTechs. Both have much better tail authority than the stock 69mm.
    Great heli. The only way to get an appreciably better heli is to go bigger, but even then "better" is subjective.

      Yes I agree with you!! It flies so much better than my Trex 450, 3D although very skillful is just not for me!! Thanks for watching and commenting 👍😄

    Very nice Ian. This was the one I was thinking of getting last year during lockdown, but got completely absorbed in my gliders. I like the larger helicopters because they sound more realistic too, particularly if they have a belt driven tail rotor as it doesn't have that whirring motor sound. Bet you feel better now. Looking forward to seeing it fly again once you've made the necessary adjustment to remove the tail wag 👍

    i just bought one of these.. Any tips on set up?

    • @IansRCExploits
      @IansRCExploits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww nice it's a great kit, what Flybarless unit you going with? My first tip is take your time building it, and go through the manual carefully!! I seem to remember a couple of the part bag labels don't match up with the manual, the manual doesn't tell you about belt tension either!! And this Heli has belt tension adjustment screws, make sure once you've decided on the tension of the belt, to put a dab of Blue thread lock on these screws!! Pay attention to the swash plate servo links and the position of the A on the ball links!! The A needs to face out on each ball joint, I set my 470Lp up quite docile as I don't fly 3D but this also depends on what Gyro your using!! But I set 10 degrees + pitch at full throttle and 10 degrees - pitch at low throttle and 0 degrees at centre stick!! This was then adjusted to suit my flying style using the throttle and pitch curves!! Good luck 😄👍

      @@IansRCExploits I was thinking about either going with the icon 2 or A good spektrum FBL so I could get the SAFE mode, telemetry, panic and The food program in feature through my NX8.
      I purchased the talk to version instead of the belt drive. Just sounded better in my mind to not have the belt. I will have to see what you’re talking about with the ball links when I get it in because this will be my first build.

    • @IansRCExploits
      @IansRCExploits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the Spektrum FC 6250HX is on two of my Align Helie's and performs well but I had trouble setting it up on my 470Lp so changed to a Micro Beast pro.

    • @IansRCExploits
      @IansRCExploits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A word of caution regarding the BeastX if you want self level and the panic feature you have to pay an additional €98 for the Pro Upgrade!! I love how easy the FC6250HX was to program through Forward Programming and wish I had been able to get it set up on my 470Lp I put it on my Trex 500 and it has performed amazing!! But the set up videos from Spektrum are quite sketchy!! As for the Ikon at the time if building my 470 i could not find any to buy in Europe or the UK so i have no experience of this unit at all, i think the Torque tube is a better idea than the drive belt!! Keep an eye on your tail drive shaft bearings!! Mine disintegrated after about 6 flights!! Thank God I was only just taking off when it happened so had no damage to the Heli 😄👍

    • @KnightsGarage
      @KnightsGarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IansRCExploits Yes I have heard that about the beast-x extra cost for the feature unlock. It was recommended to me by several others to just sell the Beast-x and Buy either icon2 or spectrum.
      I say spektrum’s videos on setting up FBL’s and they all seem to be pretty old I think it’s time for them to do updated videos on their newer stuff. I watched a few videos of guys assembling the dominator series and they said the bearings come with just a dot of grease and you have to pretty much disassemble most of the parts and put more grease on the bearings and reassemble them.

    • @IansRCExploits
      @IansRCExploits  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Chris, tail wag I find can be caused by a number of things, including the temperature on the day your flying!! However with the Trex Helies, I find that they just need to be mechanically adjusted correctly, have a look at this video, it explains it more easily than I could explain in words 😀👍

      If that doesn't cure the issue, I find just adjusting the tail Gyro gain a fraction can help to, here's another link to a video from a guy called Freddy, I've used him a lot and learnt a great deal about building Helie's and adjusting them 😀👍
