I built a 24 foot monolithic dome my wife and I live in - in north Texas - I wouldn’t live in anything else - Wish I had fiber optic I’d be working at home too 😂😂😂
In Life magazine dated in the 1940's ,I ran across an article about balloon houses covered in concrete . This is not a new concept but think about . They made concrete block houses that lasted for years. This dome maintains the temperature you want. The article in Life magazine showed building two sizes next to each other and then building a walkway between the two . You could put the bathroom ,kitchen, and the laundry room in one and main living area in the other one .
Thanks for sharing. Im glad Issac, Jaylena, and Baby Ember were able to stay awhile. I think you did a great job. I would have to have a glider or swing out front though just because its my thing to do.
Very cool. If you were to do something like this over again, what would you do differently to deal with all the cracking in the ceiling, walls, and floor? Do all of the concrete structures your family has built have this issue? Is there even a way to eliminate this in places that have a long wet season? Thank you.
Thank you for asking, I'm looking for the same answers. I would love to build monolithic, but I'm starting to think that this and mold are the reason monolithic isn't as big as it should be.
A house like that would be perfect in the tornado ridden Midwest only with more super tripled reinforced cement. Also, for that part of the country the portholes should have protective steel gates.
Thanks for sharing this awesome place with us!! It is truly amazing to see how luxurious it was on the inside and would never expect it looking at the outside!
A fascinating concept and perfect realization of an idea that both breaks away from the "traditional" idea of home-building aesthetics and provides an avenue for severe weather resistance. Here in the UK, I have often day-dreamed of selling it all for a small plot of land and permission to build an unobtrusive and sustainable home. This permission would likely be second biggest issue after purchasing the land, however. My knowledge of the USA (like many here) is limited to what is gleaned from the internet but, if these TH-cam channels are any indicator it appears there may be greater freedoms of personal choice when it comes to embarking on these personal projects. In the UK, the law around buildings can be very inflexible regardless of ownership status of the land one might wish to build on. In terms of larger developments in regions that are tornado prone, I do wonder why these concrete dome-homes are not the only option for dwellings in the USA considering the presumed far greater availability of land and less need for high density housing, which I believe is another barrier here in the UK? These dome houses appear to be (as one other commenter put it) "invulnerable to just about anything". Do keep up the content, if not too busy elsewhere. You seem like a charming couple and it would be great to have you continue to share your experiences. All the best.
Oh my goodness what a beautiful video. The dome is magical, I love the port hole windows the design, the setting!! You could go on and on!! Wonderful place to stay 😊😊
Cool house! Not sure what this dome home has to do with Hobbits... maybe put sod on the roof, add a round entry door, fireplace, wood (tile) flooring and accents? I did notice the concrete is fracturing on the ceiling and floor. Hopefully the rebar will prevent structural damage, especially overhead. Good luck!
I'm poor. Could I get one of these dome homes for under $50,000? I live in a rural area where they might allow one of these outside of city limits. But I can't afford more than $50,000.
I gather that is one of the South's designs. Do you know when it was constructed? I happen to live north of Monolithic Dome's campus. We go there every few years to tour the many dome homes. Been doing so for decades.
I’m sure you’ve probably figured it out already but a great place to learn is to go to a four day school at monolithic concrete domes in Italy Texas. I actually went. It was a great school. I still dream of building a dome. I haven’t done it yet. I do have some equipment to do it at least most equipment. Best of luck, Greg.
We have had dome houses here for many yrs. It went through a real surge at one time. Since Hobbiton, it has sprung back up. Many now have businesses, all thanks to Lord of The Rings trilogy. Thank you to Peter Jackson. The special built village where the movie was set, is very close to me. Thank you for the video.
I would have put portholes in the kitchen before the bedroom. Other than that, it seems very nice. The property on the other hand looks absolutely amazing.
I've always like the idea of a concrete dome home. They appear to be invulnerable to just about anything and just look cool. Great video, thanks.

I noticed some cracking in the ceiling in this one. Is that common?
Is it tornado proof
How much cost you pay for your home
That is awesome! I'm going to build one, probably also in Texas although in the hill country. I would love to chat with you about your dome journey.
Love the way she talks about the tiny dome. Her voice is so calming. Love your tiny home, it’s beautiful.

I learned about the Binishell late last year and I think it's a great idea
The two of them have turned that space into a cozy, functional and comfortable tiny home. I love it!
💗💗
I thought they turned it into a rental. I hope that's not because no one wants to live in it for more than a few days.
So do I!
If you dont have it yet, you have got to get a star projector to show the night sky on your dome ceiling!

I grew up in Eugene! They're just SouthWest of town! Beautiful area!!!
S.western USA has those 'sacks of dirt' homes that astonished me.-amazed folks create a cozy life so different from what most think as norm.'
I thought it was an awesome place!
"Earthbag building" - really enticing construction style 🙌🏻

The video sounds like an advertisement. I suspect it IS an AirBnB.

Cuteness personified!

this is tornado proof as it is. the wind has no chance to grab at anything and it's a super heavy structure.
You call it the reading and writing desk? What else COULD you call it exactly?
Wow that is a gorgeous dome home!! Following a wonderful enjoyable repersentation video Awesome !! Thank you for sharing!!💗💗💗

I have been to Italy, Texas three times to see their domes.
What a lovely young couple.

Smart move !!😊
So cute! Absolutely love it. 💜
I love it!❤❤👍
Thank ya!
What about all the fractures in the concrete above your heads? Do they all do that?
I love this. It is so beautiful.
💗
This is so rad
Thanks for your help with this one my dude!
Very cool 😎
Great dome home!!!.where did you get the port hole windows at???
Amazing home! Who did you use to build this dome?
This is mega super ! ! !

Almost built one in Tampa.
This was a fun video. 🎉🎉
Thanks for sharing.
What is your exterior coating? The balloon?
I think I like the cement dome better than the yurt. They can get mold build up.
Cool 😎
💗💗
All it needs is a full-size fridge.
You have such an absolutely lovely home. I totally adore it! ❤😁
What are the acoustics like?
How much is just the dome?
What about the suckets and the curtains?
How much did this cost?
I'm poor. Could I get one of these dome homes for under $50,000? I live in a rural area where they might allow one of these outside of city limits. But I can't afford more than $50,000.
Yes it's possible
HOW MUCH DO YOU HAVE INTO IT COSTWISE IS MY QUESTION
What does that come out to in CircleFt? ;)
That is so sick
It's Really Very Lovely,
but where is the closets space in the bedroom and living room?
Where is the dresser in your bedroom?
If I were younger I would do the same thing I absolutely love it. The only thing I noticed is that there is a slight echo.
I gather that is one of the South's designs. Do you know when it was constructed? I happen to live north of Monolithic Dome's campus. We go there every few years to tour the many dome homes. Been doing so for decades.
How do you keep it cool.
Thats so cool congrats guys!! Are there any plans i can find for this type of dome?
Awesome
💗💗💗
Dreamy ❤❤❤❤
Domes were the wave of the future back in the late 60s-early 70s.
Hey guys....Love the video....any tips on how to start build a dome house?

@@greglinder8690 I live in Denmark [Northern Europe], I think Texas is kinda far away 😁 I hope you got to build your dome house in the future 🤩

Ha ha yeah not many here :) I’d love to see more
@@isaacturnerit absolutely Isaac....a possible new business?😊💫😉
Is it possible to make a house like this but bigger ?
I need one
I would have put portholes in the kitchen before the bedroom. Other than that, it seems very nice. The property on the other hand looks absolutely amazing.
can you tell us who built it?
I noticed a lot of cracks in the ceiling. Does that compromise the structures integrity over time?
Who did you contract to help you build this monolithic home?
Where did you get the outer layer of fabric or what? Thanks
Hello Isaac, Nice dome..In Jamaica most of our structures are concrete...We hardly do board houses here..Have a great Julu 4th👍🤗
Happy 4th thanks for watching
Just a thought -- what if you wanted to cover the port hole windows. They are so bright! Nice place, tho.
This should be the new way of living and building homes.. save tress for our oxygen and affordable for all.. I love it
