I mostly blame that phenomenon on ignorant, out-of-touch parents and grandparents buying this for their kids/grandkids. They saw the price and thought "what a deal"!
Wow, when the camera cuts as you go up a ramp it is ridiculously disorienting. For a while during this video I thought your character was suddenly on an invisible plane a foot off the ground when it was actually the wall I was looking at...
This sequel is a massivs improvement to its predecessor. Maybe after 50 more sequels this series could be playable... Kickstarter, anyone? Nah! But now we need to see Country Justice. ;-)
god, that camera when you go up in the air from a halfpipe is terrible, the transition is so bad that it just looks like the floor glitched away into a big grey mess. i actually saw a jewel case copy of this game in a thrift shortly after your review for the first game, and having watched this review i feel even more validated for having passed it up
You've GOT to review "Country Justice" man! That game looks horrible. And now I actually feel bad for telling you to play it.. But I find it amusing to watch your pain! *Evil laugh* (Seriously though, I love your work and reviews. You're awesome!)
The camera in this one feels like it's on a long string attached to the player, and it just spins out of control when jumping... It's sickening to watch o-o
It's not as noticeable during gameplay thankfully. Dunno whether it's because I was controlling it so I knew when to anticipate it or what. But yeah, it still sucks.
I heard this is so call " Video Game Motion Sickness". It is caused when there is a disconnect between what your eyes are seeing and what your body is feeling.Especially on this type of "Simulation" game. If the camera movement is not well adjusted, it will easily cause the sickness.
I was (am) drunk while listening and it was pretty bad. That transition was insanely painful for some reason. After watching I found my copy so I'm going to try it out. It's installing right now. My brother is a fellow collector and fan, and will probably crack up when he finds out he can play it tomorrow. Hope you had a merry Christmas and have a happy new year's eve, Clint! I'd love to share a beer and talk about old games with you one day.
Shady00018 Exactly! That's about the ONLY good thing to come out of Congo. Any flick that doesn't have the sense to use Bruce Campbell in the way God intended sucks!
Your job is to write a description of the game. "This sucks." No, you can't be negative! "This...has gameplay." Make it more radical! "WE MEAN GAMEPLAY!
2:24 I like how the characters look like playmobil dolls that have been left laying in the backyard for like a year, the dead, soulless, reptilian emptiness in their faces is a nice touch.
The devs of all these skateboarding games are missing a trick. What's really needed is "Super Extreme Pigs On Skateboards and Pogo Sticks!!! (Special Edition: With extra potato peelings!)"
The thing I notice that really puts me off this one is the camera angle on the tricks. Instead of tracking it just follows the player until you can't see where to land because the world goes topsy turvey. Glad the likes of Tony Hawk didn't give skateboarding games his name of approval until a decent developer made one that worked.
Why would Activision have made this when Tony Hawk was already on their roster? If a restaurant has an amazing burger, why add a cheaper priced burger made from questionable meat sources that may also give someone food poisoning. That's just risking a health inspector crackdown and loss of customers.
Now I want to see more of the Silverfish Studios titles on LGR. I mean after this you'd think they'd be perfecting their craft, making beautifully well done games that would make titles like Duke Nukem 3D jealous.
I think Activision bought the company, saw how abysmal B&B was, and gave the team the source code to Tony Hawk. They still managed to botch the whole thing from top to bottom, but you can see from the behavior that the sequel clearly has Tony Hawk DNA in it.
2:39 - Is one of those skateboards using the floating man in business suit character from Webdings? They must have been really desperate to come up with some designs.
Oh God! I honestly think this game is WORSE than the first one. Most notably because of the camera movement. I felt physically ill every time you went up on the halfpipe in the video. Secondly, the fact that this game isn't a trainwreck of a bad game, and just boringly mediocre, means it holds zero playability. Atleast the first one had that shock value to pique people's morbid curiosity. And also the fact that Tony Hawk existed by this point kinda hurts it too.
Ah, yeah... I see where you're going with this. The first one is so bad that its a joke, whereas the sequel is just boring. ... Another fun joke is "Kinnikuman: Dirty Challenger" on the Snes. So bad its awesome!
A lot of people here are saying this game's camera makes them sick, I think they mean how it flips during vertical ramps, but I'm sure it's fine when you actually play the game and you control when it happens. Actually, I love how it makes the player lose track of which way is down, this seems like it would be tricky but also very true to life, and with some polish it could even be pretty fun. Sadly polish is what the game most lacks, which I see as especially unfortunate since skate games that nail the vertical ramp aspect are about 75% of the way to greatness.
The reason that Silver Fish Studios makes such horrible games is because the team knows almost nothing about programming and they rush the games. They spend a few hours per week at most on there games and finish them within a month, and they dont know anything about programming they just copy and paste scripts from other games and download free models and try to make it into there own game ( doesnt turn out very well )
:D - well it seems to be a bit better then. Maybe other game series could be done like this also, as you do with The Sims etc? Just a thought. Also, it seems they missed out a word on the blurb. It should have said 'our #1 skateboarding game', perhaps? ('Our' being Silverfish, that is). That first game adds to the fact that most things with 'extreme' and 'ultimate' usually means the exact opposite also, methinks. Good review anyway Clint!
The perspective shift when going up a jump was making me sick. I gotta say, it's surprising how this terrible stuff gets made. I sincerely feel bad for people who had to spend months working on this.

They could have spiced this game up so much. Have cheering crowds in the background, babes you can flirt with, flashing party lights on the ceiling, smoke machine, a psycho biker chasing you, colorful graffiti on the wall,...this is just hideously bland.
Hey LGR, seeing how much you like the series, will you do a video on Carmageddon: Reincarnation soon? (Assuming it's playable for you at its current state...)
"I have no idea what the criminal theme is about." Maybe it's because the skaters were arrested due to their involvement with the first game, which is indeed a felony:D" this is why i come here. You never fail, LGR.
You think you'll ever do a video for odd PC ports like the PC version of twisted metal 2? I think it would be interesting to watch. Also what about a review of the 2003 game Freelancer?
I just found a copy of this at my local Goodwill... now I just need th efirst one, big rigs, and a copy of ET and I will have all of the best games ever made
No lie, after you last review , I laughed out loud when I saw the title for this one, yes I am evil :) but anyway, love your videos , keep up the good work ^^
Wow, thank you for posting this! This may be a horrible game, but I remember it from my childhood and I've been trying to remember what it was called. I "remember" it being frustrating the first time I tried it, but when I started getting into skateboarding in real life, I remembered I had this game and gave it another shot. I was actually able to beat the game, in which case you unlock a zombie version of the character you chose, haha. Again, I'm sure this game is crap, but my memories of it are enjoyable.
How after getting sponsored by Activision, Powerbar, and Mountain Dew... how the hell did Silverfish get the job of creating this sequel after what they put out? It blows my mind!
I'm surprised that they didn't just copy the engine of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and tweak it up a bit. I'm also surprised that Boards and Blades sold half a million copies. Some of the best games don't even sell close to that.
It's worth pointing out that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 was published under the Activision Value label on PC at around the same time as this, so who knows who this game was for.
No, THPS2 was released by Activision proper and at full price. Activision Value was something quite different and their games were half the normal cost. It later had its own subdivision known as Activision o2, but still quite separate from Activision Value :)
Lazy Game Reviews I might be wrong about the timeframe (I think it was around the release of THPS3), but I'm sure it was published by them at some point. My copy has a readme with the Activision Value address, has a link to activisionvalue.com in the installer, it installs to the Activision Value folder, and lists Activision Value in the manual (though the cover still had Activision o2). Also the executable seems to be patched, as any hex editing mods I've tried do not work on my copy. It works on XP out of the box too, unlike the original release. Googling around, I can't find any info about the release either. I found a single review referencing Activision Value publishing it (on a site called Christian Answers. huh.) which also referred to their review of the GBA version. Is it possible that it was a geographically limited release? It wasn't too far away from their office where I got the copy.
Completely random idea, but do you think the market success of the first Board and Blades lead to the greenlighting of Tony Hawks Pro Skater? The suits at Activision might have seen that there was demand in the market for alt/x-sport titles as even crap would sell.
And what the Hell is a FLIPPO anyway? Is that like the Magic Flip re-invented? What a load. What a fail. Tail Grab? Nose Grab. At least they get the 540...nothing...540 Ollie...damn, this whole thing is all convoluted. Another one the AVGN would likely do the nasty over. lol
I miss Tony Hawk Underground 2 on the original xbox. That game was great, it was a solid eight out of ten skate boarding game. you could make your own characters, unlock memorable and funny characters in each story mode map that took place across the world, and let's not forget about the hilarious and awesome maps that you'd unlock after beating the game. When I fell into hell "ring of fire" by johnny cash started playing right on the words ring of fire. I laughed so hard...Man, I miss that game. Oh, and the guy on the second right of the line-up looks like the ancient aliens guy, the one from the meme
No, but I plan on taking a look at the final game! I've played the pre-alpha though, but it's just nearly complete enough or very playable yet to merit a video.
can you review buzz aldrin race into space please! its so awesome and I bet you will love playing It LGR! or some space game like KSP or other games of the type.
The first one sold half a frickin' million copies? Oh my god ...
*****
Nah, I loved that game as a kid. Played it every day and kicked ass at it.
Dat Roll Kicked the producer's asses.
WEASELLLLLLLLLL, you replied to me this morning woo, thanks for that
I mostly blame that phenomenon on ignorant, out-of-touch parents and grandparents buying this for their kids/grandkids. They saw the price and thought "what a deal"!
We've got to find all the people that bought the first and second game, and put them out of thier misery
Wow, when the camera cuts as you go up a ramp it is ridiculously disorienting. For a while during this video I thought your character was suddenly on an invisible plane a foot off the ground when it was actually the wall I was looking at...
Ok, with those character models, this really does look like an MDickie game.
This sequel is a massivs improvement to its predecessor. Maybe after 50 more sequels this series could be playable... Kickstarter, anyone? Nah! But now we need to see Country Justice. ;-)
when I read the title I was hoping for a game about fighting with swords on skateboards.
god, that camera when you go up in the air from a halfpipe is terrible, the transition is so bad that it just looks like the floor glitched away into a big grey mess. i actually saw a jewel case copy of this game in a thrift shortly after your review for the first game, and having watched this review i feel even more validated for having passed it up

And now I actually feel bad for telling you to play it.. But I find it amusing to watch your pain! *Evil laugh*
(Seriously though, I love your work and reviews. You're awesome!)
Just btw Spyro 3 has awesome skating minigame. I spent more time playing it than the actual game trying to perfect all tricks. :D
The camera in this one feels like it's on a long string attached to the player, and it just spins out of control when jumping... It's sickening to watch o-o
The camera movement when you jump is making me sick...

Zen Vict Player It doesn't really make me sick. It just bothers the fuck out of me.
Me too, I couldn't finish the vid..
Two words. Nitro Family. If I've ever played a bad PC game it's that. Not to mention there are literally no reviews anywhere for it.
Hope you could do "Congo" the movie game in the future. :D
I could never complete the level where I had to stop Tim Curry from eating my sesame cake.
LOL
Shady00018 Exactly! That's about the ONLY good thing to come out of Congo. Any flick that doesn't have the sense to use Bruce Campbell in the way God intended sucks!
Your job is to write a description of the game.
"This sucks."
No, you can't be negative!
"This...has gameplay."
Make it more radical!
"WE MEAN GAMEPLAY!
They could have at least put real Ska in this one. :|
"Mum I want to buy Tony Hawk Pro Skater"
"You have a skating game at home"
The skating game at home:
Soooo... this games only redeeming quality is that it doesn't suck as much as the first game? =/
Pretty much.
Unfortunately, it never made it past an early pre-Alpha. If only it was actually released, we'd all be in for a real treat!
What we need is a third person shooter on pogo sticks with regenerating health and extra damage based on doing tricks while shooting the enemy.
Is it strange to say I have a man crush on your voice mr. LGR?
The thing I notice that really puts me off this one is the camera angle on the tricks. Instead of tracking it just follows the player until you can't see where to land because the world goes topsy turvey. Glad the likes of Tony Hawk didn't give skateboarding games his name of approval until a decent developer made one that worked.

Had you ever heard of Head Games' Gear Head Garage? That was one of my favorite games to play on my old XP.
Now I want to see more of the Silverfish Studios titles on LGR. I mean after this you'd think they'd be perfecting their craft, making beautifully well done games that would make titles like Duke Nukem 3D jealous.
Got this game from a Scholastic Book Fair lol I enjoyed it but I was a little kid, along with Extreme PaintBrawl 2 lol
Sweet Jesus.
It looks like M Dickie made this game.
Rusty Cox Lol best comment on here
About to go to sleep
See LGR uploaded a video
TH-cam let me sleep T^T
noooooo.
it WATCHES you sleep.

Can you not get off your board and walk in this one?
Tony Hawk's Discount Skater can be found at any Dollar General store near you !!!
You probably hear this a lot, but dear god these reviews are addictive.

I love how there no landing animation. You're in the air and then all of a sudden you're flat on the ground
A lot of people here are saying this game's camera makes them sick, I think they mean how it flips during vertical ramps, but I'm sure it's fine when you actually play the game and you control when it happens. Speaking of "value software", could you review Roller Coaster Factory 3 from ValuSoft?
It's a pity how much potential this game had. It there wasn't such bad animations and graphic's, this could of been a pretty good game overall.

The menu color pallet looks like a Rastafarian’s dream.
Holy poop this was fast. Great video. Hope to see more DOS good games or post DOS, pre-cd popularization
The perspective shift when going up a jump was making me sick. I gotta say, it's surprising how this terrible stuff gets made. I sincerely feel bad for people who had to spend months working on this.
I'll give it one thing... That "RESTRICTED AREA" police tape is kind of a clever way of saying that the level is locked... Kind of.
We need a Country Justice review. It's the only way to bring balance to the universe.
Suddenly, a wild LGR video appeared in my subscriptions. Then there's no time to waste!

They could have spiced this game up so much. Have cheering crowds in the background, babes you can flirt with, flashing party lights on the ceiling, smoke machine, a psycho biker chasing you, colorful graffiti on the wall,...this is just hideously bland.
I can't put my finger on why I like your videos, I just know I do, and this is no exception. I love the line about a punch to the face.
Hey LGR, seeing how much you like the series, will you do a video on Carmageddon: Reincarnation soon? (Assuming it's playable for you at its current state...)
"I have no idea what the criminal theme is about." Maybe it's because the skaters were arrested due to their involvement with the first game, which is indeed a felony:D"

i like how the free ride option flickers randomly in the menu, even the menus are glitchy
2:40 What's with the random symbol on that board ripped straight off of WIngdings?
It's more generous than coconut 54
No lie, after you last review , I laughed out loud when I saw the title for this one, yes I am evil :) but anyway, love your videos , keep up the good work ^^
Thx for doing the sequel LGR, that's why you're awsome.
Wow, thank you for posting this! This may be a horrible game, but I remember it from my childhood and I've been trying to remember what it was called.

those skaters needed the money to buy more PowerBars and Mountain Dew. They can't stop their bodies from exploding by themselves you know.
if i ever had played this game, i would have instantaneously quit gaming, skating and done who knows what with my life.
Desperate Housewives game next!!! Pleaseee =D
You should do a lets play of the tony hawk underground series as duke nukem
New Series Idea: Games that make me want to run around blindfolded in highway traffic
I almost knew that this Game should be better ^^ but I also see that you don't ran out of Games to review ^^
I'm surprised that they didn't just copy the engine of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and tweak it up a bit. I'm also surprised that Boards and Blades sold half a million copies. Some of the best games don't even sell close to that.
it looks like a game someone made as a school project in unity or game maker
+ Simon Andersson It looks more like a free game made in 2005
That was played on the internet with Flash
It's worth pointing out that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 was published under the Activision Value label on PC at around the same time as this, so who knows who this game was for.

This looks like if MDickie made a skateboarding game.
Thanks for posting this. :) I'm a huge fan and I love your channel. Hope you see this. :D
The Game's Case cover and "Press "START" Screen" looks AWFUL familiar.....
Tony Hawk Pro Skater, anyone?
They reused the "theme" on it. Or am I crazy?
seeing this, skate 3 looks like heaven
Oh geez, why is the FOV so low? Combined with the awful HUD, jerky camera and complete lack of lighting, it's actually pretty naueating.
You know what else is value priced? Delta Force.
LGR, would you consider doing an LGR Plays of Country Justice?
Our requests were answered!
So you gonna do Country Justice next? :P
The levels look like prototypes to what would be the actual levels in THPS 1 and 2.
Those camera angles makes me feel awful inside :(
They lost the sponsorship I see. I wonder why🤔
I got suckered into this game, partly because I was young and partly because my mum bought it for me.
I see so many shovelware getting new entries while good games are left without a deserving new entry.
Wow... Now it actuallt HAS gameplay! Amazing!
Aright! Another LGR video!
:DDDD
And what the Hell is a FLIPPO anyway? Is that like the Magic Flip re-invented? What a load. What a fail.
Tail Grab? Nose Grab. At least they get the 540...nothing...540 Ollie...damn, this whole thing is all convoluted. Another one the AVGN would likely do the nasty over. lol
This game looks like if MDickie tried his hand at a skateboarding game.
Well, it seems to function, so that's something. Although it seems worse than the skating sections in Spyro 3, which suggests it's still crap.
please review the rednick game
I miss Tony Hawk Underground 2 on the original xbox. That game was great, it was a solid eight out of ten skate boarding game. you could make your own characters, unlock memorable and funny characters in each story mode map that took place across the world, and let's not forget about the hilarious and awesome maps that you'd unlock after beating the game. When I fell into hell "ring of fire" by johnny cash started playing right on the words ring of fire. I laughed so hard...Man, I miss that game. Oh, and the guy on the second right of the line-up looks like the ancient aliens guy, the one from the meme
I still can't tell what is happening in time or space when you go into the ramps
Hey LGR, are you planning to take a look at Carmageddon Reincarnation early access?
No, but I plan on taking a look at the final game! I've played the pre-alpha though, but it's just nearly complete enough or very playable yet to merit a video.
Even the CD cover looks a little Tony Hawks Pro Skater.
Was that Charglezz Firecaster?
this is a great review sir :) the first game really was shitty but this one may not be as bad but it is just forgettable like you said
School book fairs, I think thats how the first managed to sell so well
Genesis3D, isn't that the engine that rose to infamy for being used for Ethnic Cleansing?
can you review buzz aldrin race into space please! its so awesome and I bet you will love playing It LGR! or some space game like KSP or other games of the type.
haha I can't believe you put your self through another one! hats off to you :)@lgr
I wonder if anybody who worked on this game went on to work on the THPS series. You know, as a custodian or something.
