  • This is the Suzuki Celerio. It’s a tiny car, but with one huge selling point - it's one of the cheapest new cars available for sale in the UK. Prices start from just under £7500, but does the price come at the expense of quality? Is it worth putting on your shopping list, or would you be better off spending a little extra on a Hyundai i10 or Volkswagen Up? Find out in my full, in-depth review.

    I've owned my Celerio for 4 years now and have had 0 problems with it , it's THE most frugal car I've ever owned and on a long run ( ie Derbyshire to Scotland which we have done twice ) the car averages 76.5 mpg . Apart from oil changes and fluid top ups ( it hasn't needed the coolant topping up in FOUR YEARS since new ) it hasn't cost me a penny , it's still on the original tyres and brake discs and pads :)

      Same, 0 issues, we loved it. Had the dual jet version for 6 years. The best consumption was 620 miles with 35 litres. Reliable simple car. Cheap interior, but worth every penny. Max speed was 122 mph (GPS, Germany) 😄⚡ the dual jet gear ratio is different I believe. 2nd gear up to 60mph. Almost forgot to mention I've replaced the radio with an android 2dim system. Huge display I had MS Teams, Outlook, and remote desktop on it 😂 plus linked to a BT OBDII reader Torque Pro app with many gauges... Reversing cam, keyboard and mouse. I called him White Batmobile.

    It's an absolutely brilliant car, I am blown away by it. I have been in the motor industry and drove all its competitors. As far as I am concerned, it is the biggest in its class. Because it is so light, the performance is ample. You simply rev it, in fact there is a noticeable kick in power just before the redline. The fuel consumption is shockingly good. The recommended tyre pressures are very high, dropping them by as little as 5% makes a noticeable difference to the ride quality. The handling is good. Yes, the steering doesn't have a strong self-return action, but have you driven the last three generations of Honda Jazz? It's the same, but those cars are much more expensive. This car has to be reviewd in the context of what it is and if you do that, this is a winner.

    So many Car enthusiasts are such snobs! Most people just want to get from A-B in a car that doesn't cost the earth and is half decent to drive. This car fits the bill and is amazingly roomy compared to other city cars.

      mark199 Very true, and there are a lot of car snobs who watch these videos on TH-cam. I see people every day in the premium cars. Nobody owns them, which is what makes me laugh. They are all paying hundreds a month just to show off. Its all about image these days for so many in society. If you questioned them about it, denial would be the answer with the "youre only jealous etc". LOL, jealous of what exactly? Oh yea, wish I was driving a big BMW or Audi etc. I see £50k cars outside £50k houses, what a joke. Id sooner have a cheap car outside a £500k house. At least my money would have gone on something useful! People are so full of themselves, and they actually think other people are impressed.

      Spot on Ernie, so many people desperate to impress others they are successful by leasing cars on PCP. 50k cars outside 50k houses? lol If i had a pound for every white Merc A class with black alloys parked in a council estate, i'd be a rich man. I quite like these stripped to the bone cars, and would have one of these no problem. A bit like the first C1, nothing on it that wasn't absolutely necessary, even had only one door light switch. Shame they're ~10k now and laden with nonsense to keep the yoofs entertained. ;)

      Paul Sykes I always think the Celerio and the original Aygo would have been a direct replacement for the original Mini, and ive owned all three in my time. All cheap and all great fun in a rollerskate kind of way. A man on Auto Trader in the customer reviews got a Celerio for his wife I think, he loves it and says his 5 series BMW is dull by comparison, and I know exactly what he means. I earn decent money but ive never been interested in big cars. My theory is if you cant wash the entire car with one bucket of water and a sponge, its too big :D Ive mainly had small hatchbacks since I passed my test in 1986, and the Celerio was so much fun and very nippy. I only got rid because I saw a bargain Yaris new, and id wanted one of those for a couple of years. It turned out to be the dullest car ever and regret parting with the Celerio.

    • @paulsykes1339
      @paulsykes1339 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, i get that. I've driven some pretty cars that have been really dull to drive, many still think a quicker car will always be more fun than a slower car and that isn't always the case. For me, i still like the minimalist cars, there's a sense of purity somehow. The fact that i sold an Ibiza FR for the C1 and still had a grin on my face says it all. There again you can have the best of both worlds and have a small, taught basic but quick car and end up with a Twingo cup but we'll never see those cars again and the PCP financed punters want soggy gin palaces and the manufactures, being no fools, will make them...

    The Suzuki celerio is a very underrated car. I have owned mine since 2017 and it gives the best mpg of any car that I have ever owned (mostly diesels) and this little car keeps up with all traffic including on motorways, I’m 6ft3 and find the car very comfortable even on long journeys, the longest journey being from Southampton to Newcastle to Blackpool and back to Southampton which worked out to be 745 + miles and the car did not miss a beat and the passengers with me said that they felt comfortable, another bonus is that The car is exempt from road tax. All this for less money than you would spend on a set of new wheels and tyres for a BMW or Audi.

      Hi mate, I have got the basic spec car, when I bought it in 2017 it was only a year old, and in that time 7 years, I have only paid to get it serviced every other year, oil and filter changes, but touch wood nothing major. This little car is built like a tank and is extremely economical and is very capable of long motorway journeys in relative comfort, it is a very popular car in India under a different name, and I can see why as it is fuss free motoring, my only little bit of advice would be to upgrade better more performance spark plugs from the standard ones, as it makes a lot of difference to the overall performance of this car, better acceleration and makes the car much smoother to drive. I would honestly say that this is the best value small car that you can buy for the money.

    The steering not self straightening mentioned in this video is because the Toe angle is set to a more neutral position (Meaning the tyres don't toe outwards which would cause the wheels to pull them selves back straight). This is mostly done to reduce rolling resistance and maximize fuel economy.
    My Aygo is the same and you can quite literally steer to the correct angle for a corner and take your hands off the wheel and it will continue through the corner in what ever position you set the steering in. I've actually grown to quite like this kind of steering characteristic, any car that I've driven since that has strong self righting I just feel like I'm constantly having a wrestling match with the steering wheel. Personally I don't have any issues as I feel letting go of the steering wheel to straighten up is just a bad driving habit and potentially dangerous if you hit a bump or pothole while doing so.

      I agree with you about Suzuki! I have a ‘99 Jimny and I absolutely love it. It’s not a fast car and it’s not a well handling car but as my first car there’s something incredibly fun about it to drive. Plus it can go anywhere. However, there’s no way I’d buy a new one. I feel like Suzuki is starting to go off as the budget brand, and while they’ve never been an expensive car, the new ones seem a lot cheaper and nastier now. It’s a shame, the brand seems to have potential. Especially with a car like the Jimny and Vitara.

If it were a leather dashboard over time it would just dry out and start cracking, I’m not sure if that a problem across the pond in the UK, but here in Nevada I’ve dealt with those type of issues when I owned my BMW.

    +carwow hi guys, I watch a lot of Mat's reviews. Would it be possible to include a pushchair/pram in your luggage test? While you use a suitcase and that is useful to know, a pushchair/pram is quite a unique shape and size but very common. My wife and I are about to become first time parents and want to know if a pram will fit in a small car such as this. And how much spare space there will be in the boot of a larger car. Thanks again, love the review and the light hearted but informative feel of the episodes.

    HONEST REVIEW. I own Celerio VXi optional( air bag and ABS). Very convenient and smooth in handling. I have driven 140 km/hr in Bangalore Hassan Highway. Good mileage. There was no vibration at all. I have also driven the same car in madikeri ghat roads. It was very convenient. It was not difficult at all to drive on ghat roads. Only lagging is the pick up. Not sure about the built quality. Keep in mind that no car is safe when you are driving above 100 km/hr.
