This is a good video, but it really isn’t necessary to remove the snorkel or the belt. In fact, you don’t really even need to remove the hoses. The access is so good on this truck that all you have to do is unscrew the two bolts in the thermostat housing, pull it back and put in a new thermostat. It takes about five minutes.
Great video…tried to talk my brother in law 5 hours away through changing his out, after he couldn’t follow those simple instructions, I sent him this video and he had no problems
Thanks for the instructive video. Followed it step-by-step (ignored the belt removal though), and got the job done in no time. I replaced my thermostat because my gauge needle is not exactly on 210 but showing around 213-215 when engine is warm, every so often it’d increase to about 220 especially when stuck in traffic. I guess my thermostat wasn’t the faulty guy. Could it be my pump that’s going bad? Thanks.
i was all ready to replace the thermostat because of a P0128 "Coolant Thermostat code"... but someone said check the coolant temp sensor, they get heat soaked being by the manifold and sure enough with a little dialectic grease and some more electrical tape the code was gone and temps were normal. Check👍 that 1st before the thermostat.😎
I did this repair to my 2008 suburban temperature stays at 210 wich seems to be the normal temp for these suvs I don’t have any problems but My lower radiator stays cold after hours of driving around is this normal? Top hose is hot heater blows hot I would assume the lower hose would be hot too but it’s cold to the touch

One problem is your car heat won't work until you start driving. This can be a problem cause by the thermostat. My truck had this problem and also would run hot while warming my car up during the winter months. Changing my thermostat fixed the issue.
The seals never go in that easy you're almost better off throwing the thermostat into the housing and then throwing the gasket over top of it. I've never seen one go in that easy before unless they've shaved it with a razor
No need to take the serpentine belt off. Take the air box hose off and the upper radiator hose. Then two bolts that hold the housing on. Swap thermostat. Reinstall housing, put hose back on, reinstall air box hose. Bleed cooling system. Easy peasy.

Thank you sir for this detailed video!! Saved me $200+
Nice TH-cam video BTW
Great knowledge for somebody that doesn't know how to do that.
Excellent video. So informative. I learn every time I watch
Do you have to take the sepertine belt off?? Or was that for just more room to work?
I wouldn’t even take the housing off of the hose🤷♂️
Lol I looked at mine I can get to it with out removing any thing
You guys are life savers!!!

..excellent, and clear!
great video, thank you

Thats b.s how did you get that seal and thermostat in the housing so easily. I been struggling all day
would this be the same steps for a 2015 chevy sub
i changed mine i started it after and the temperature gauge wont go up and now its saying engine hot a/c turned off
And did that do the trick have the exact same symptoms on mine ?
Maybe you put the thermostat in backwards
I got the same problem
What temp thermostat did you use?

You most likely have air in the system. Both hoses should be hot, if not you have a circulation issue.
I switched out the thermostat but the engine hot is still on dash board what do I do next to fix the problem

No need for a gasket?
Is this for a 5.3
What's the length of the 10mm bolt for the thermostat housing ??
Did you lose one? You have two of them.
@@patrickedwards7897 you need both
Why not drain coolant first. Less of a mess
+Josh Gray Thank you!
I came to the comments go say exactly this lol. Why dump all that fluid all over your components
why NOT? Doesnt hurt anything, takes less time.
why would all the stuff be removed the housing is accessable
What if mine is leaking a little ?
Before or after replacement?
I did exactly that but it’s leaking from the bottom of the housing

Whats the reason it was changed ?

They be doing tue most YOU don't not have to do all that
Mechanic wants $200 for a thermostat replacement plus parts
Maybe a little more complicated than I thought
You installed the thermostat incorrectly. The jiggle pin should be aligned with the 12o'clock mark on the housing, not with the notch in the gasket.
It aligns with both. They did that.
