I totally respect 1A Auto. I've saved thousands of dollars buying parts from them and watching the videos. Been able to do most repairs myself. The parts are reasonably priced and convenient. I really appreciate that they sell the water pump with the thermostat and housing built in. It makes things sooo much easier.
Just bought an 07 and just here watching repairs on it. I dread water pump fixes but this one seems pretty easy. Glad to know it comes with a new thermostat housing and thermostat. Nice video by 1A Auto
Should clean them filthy pulleys before reinstalling serp belt. Could cause premature belt failure and or squeak. Would also flush old coolant out and change out factory spring clamps with regular radiator clamps. Otherwise, fine job.
Very helpful video! Thank you for taking it slowly and showing every step. Helps alot of us who like to tackle these types of jobs ourselves! Props to 1AAuto!
In addition! Wondering how much GM approved coolant you’ll need to replenish the system? I bought 2 GALLONS of concentrate and it took a little more than 1 gal. once I diluted it so in essence a little more than 2 gallons when mixed with half water!

[FYI] You will also need a 15mm socket to remove the tension pulley. What is not shown is the flushing system process and this installation came with the thermostat installed/included but if you have already changed the thermostat like I did... you will use the 10mm socket to remove/reinstall the thermostat housing on the new pump. I’ve been troubleshooting a overheating problem for a while and I hope that this is the resolution to my problem!
Is it true about the comment below about some sort of grease on the gaskets and tape on the bolts just so I know because I'm changing out my water pump tomorrow dont want to make that mistake please reply as soon as possible thank u 1A Auto Parts love the videos they always come in handy please reply soon tho dont want to make that mistake
Yes, you absolutely want to use loctite on the bolts so they don't loosen up due to vibrations. and some sort of automotive grease for the gaskets to keep them in place Edit - High temperature automotive grease
Petroleum degrades rubber. If you insist on using a grease on these gaskets, make it a high temp silicone-based grease. Not necessary. Clean your mating surfaces well, and apply your gaskets. Torque as presented in this video.
+JuanWho_ We don't have a how-to video for your vehicle right now, but the basic steps in this video should be enough to do this task. Buy this part for your vehicle on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

Great video but I did it myself and the engine over heated, so I took it to Goodyear and it cost my dad $536 to fix it. They told us that they're has to be some grease on the gaskets and some kind of tape on the screws so that it doesn't leak through the screws which isnt in the video. They said I did a great job with everything but I just missed some things. Also I put in a brand new thermastat and it didnt work
It overheated because you did not bleed the cooling system of all the air trapped inside. There is no thread sealant used on these water pumps on the 5.3 or the 6.0. You certainly don't want to use any type of grease on any part of this type of repair. That shop is feeding you a bunch of crap. This video is the same way as I have done dozens of these in my shop. Only difference is I don't mess with anything but OEM GM pumps on these LS engines or you will be doing it again in a year or so guaranteed.
@@upnorth5465 exactly I like how they added the you did a good job part, they hit him over the head for 500$,im about to do mine this week, definitely buying new bolts though.
@@JustAGuy781 The alternator and water pump are items that in a lot of cases have about the same lifespan and usually the additional effort/cost is minimal when already doing the water pump and have the belts off etc. Usually doing a WP around 100-150k, so by that time alternator is close and if you can replace it for under $200 and have peace of mind until 250k miles it makes sense. Same with the belt. If you don't plan on keeping the vehicle long then it might not make sense, but for a vehicle you plan on keeping it makes sense in a lot of cases.
+Comarade Lee Thanks for checking us out! If you are unsure of if your water pump is failing we would suggest taking it to a certified mechanic to have diagnosed. Thank you!
typically there is a weep hole on the pump that will allow coolant to drip out when the bearing shaft seal is going bad. I had heard that it is normal for some coolant to come out of that hole but in my experience it is an indication that the pump is going bad soon.
@@Me_preppy not easy on like my 2012....part was cheap, but the location made it almost impossible to get the wire harness unclipped etc. They put it in a terrible spot at least on my 6.2l on a 2012 in the back near the firewall, I had to make all kinds of weird gadgets to try and get the harness unclipped since I could only get one hand back there and the way it faced made it impossible to press the clip with my thumb while pulling on it etc. Eventually the clip broke off lol and I had to tape it back onto the new sensor;-) but I wasn't about to disassemble half the engine to replace a simple sensor like on some videos.

Great time to replace the Cam Sensor as well. As they like to break in half and are super fun. NtK or Acdelco.

Is it easier to pour coolant in the hoses before reinstall , or does it not matter ?
how torque must the bolts of the water pump for a 2018 gmc sierra 1500 5.3
Remove the black pulley ... Right under the altermater.....it's a 15 mm it makes it easier to mount and unmount the pump
NICE JOB filming!
Is this parallel with The Tahoe as well?

Can a bad water pump cause reduced engine power in a 2003 Chevy suburban LT
I had my engine replaced on my '07 suburban by a shop. I had anti-freeze leaking pass those gaskets. What could of they done wrong to have a leak.
Do i have to use ft lb torque wrench

Aren't you supposed to fill the pump before putting on the last/top hose?
What do you do if the thermostat never opens and the engine overheats?
Good morning we change the water pump but is not heat air and is overheating, maybe is the water pump is defective?
Is there any harm in leaving the coolant higher than the line?
Do I need to put silicone or no ?
The camera person gets credit too.

When you lock those clamps up, you can use a flat head pry it out sideways and it'll unlock

Why you didn't use silicon?
So is it chain . serpentine. Or belt driven because im confused as to why i get 3 options. They all look the same.
Serpentine belt driven
Is this the same setup as 2007 GMC Yukon Denali 6.2

If it isn't bad why replace it? Kinda pointless to waste money when it isn't needed.

Replacing an alternator with a water pump is silly, it’s literally the easiest job, my alternator lasted 8 years and the water pump failed in 2

What happens if you dont put DeX cool? Like another type of coolant. Asking cause that popped in my head just now.
it could mess up the cooling system, engine internals
@@dannylsx no it won't. Get that orange coolant out of there it makes everything brittle over time. Get the green universal coolant 👍🏽
