Actually the Nidorino is not rank 1 . the rank 1 is reaching level 51 with 6-15-15 .
Your Nidorino ( 8-15-15) is reaching rank 1 only in the level 50 limit.

Can someone explain why was he using Pokémon with 1/15/15 IVs Pokémon’s? Instead of something with a Pokémon with better IVS like 12/15/15 instead

The lower attack a Pokémon has, the lower cp it has. That means it can be powered up more before it hits the cp limit. But a hundo has more potential in the master league because there's no cp limit.

You could’ve easily won the 4th battle with timburr/nidorino if you tanked the flamethrower, farmed down the bastiodon with double effective fighting damage, and used the rock charged move on azumarill😭🤦‍♂️
