Honestly it only gets a little bit easier to understand the vocals, as I guy who listens to a lot of this I can never quite understand the vocals first time I hear it, we usually listen to metal coz we like the sound and if we like what we’re hear we’ll dig deeper and read the lyrics.

Loved the video mate. Thy Art is definitely on the heavier side of things if you're just getting back into listening to metal. I would recommend bands like Gojira (song = Stranded), A Day To Remember, Of Mice & Men (pre 2016) or some of the other bands listed by another commenter as they're a little more palatable before moving into current/heavier bands. The more you listen to you can definitely pick up on the rythmn and the beat of songs more easily. Keep the metal reactions!

I love the music video for Holy War by Thy Art is Murder. The first thing you see is the hands, which represent religion. Idk if you seen it but there was a part where the soldier who electrocuted one of the two people. The hand covered his eyes, as to literally blind him, which is part of the point they’re trying to make. How the hands uncovered the child’s explosive vest, gave him the gun. Gave the two chained together the weapons. The bands explanation of this song isn’t exactly strictly against religion, but as you can tell. The video highly supports that, I honestly do really love this video, and this band. There’s a line in the verse that I really love. “Armies Of guardians, Servants of bibles, reciting verses as they stand before rifles.” Which says a lot in modern America. It just points out the hypocrisy of a gun toting, bible thumping religious person. It doesnt make sense to claim to be a religious person and own a gun. Granted, me saying that Is on a very minor level, compared to the points they’re trying to make. But still, it works. If there’s another song by Thy Art is Murder you should check out, I’d say check out They will know Another. It is a little bit of a blunt, in your face view on what humanity is doing to itself, and the world, earth. I particularly love the chorus in this song cause it says a lot as well.

I'd recommend Fit For An Autopsy, that band can do pretty much anything. Incredibly heavy with a good ear for melodies, most of the lyrics are pretty dope too.
try Mirrors by Fit For An Autopsy. btw..its not offensive calling the vocals screaming...cause it is screaming. As for being able to hear the lyrics, some vocalists have better pronunciation to their screams, some don't want any and go for a raw sound. Depends on the band, also the ear gets used to screams and can hear the lyrics.

when it comes to screamed vocals it's all about the vocalist CJ here is actually relatively easy to understand most of the time, theres definitely more entry level friendly screaming out there some of which is actually arguably heavier than this but there is also the extreme stuff that i can't understand at all some music uses pig squeals and literally there are no lyrics just guys screaming.

A lot of people will say they understand after a while but that's mostly a lie, this is coming from someone who has being heavily into extreme metal and core for 15 years. They say it to seem above others. Like someone lying about another language. Of course you understand a little more than someone who doesn't listen regularly but without lyrics you can't completely understand. Listening to old thy art is murder could be interesting, they've changed up a bit, their song 'whore to a chainsaw' was an anthem for deathcore back in the day. A little juvenile but still sick from now and then.
