Thanks for the amazing video. I've never been to Jaffna. Sri Lanka had civil war for 33 years. Mainly in Jaffna, Trinco, Baticalo areas. So, many of the adults didn't have much time to study English in schools or get used to the language. Otherwise English is 2nd language that we have to study. Now the children can study properly in schools without any disturbance of war. Nothern people suffered a lot because of war. This video made me so happy. Thank you. I wish I can visit there too.

In Jaffna, you don't find many foreigners. That's why English is not commonly spoken or understood among the local vendors. Jaffna hasn't seen development since the 1970s up until 2009 because of the bloody civil war. Very beautiful, friendly, and proud people. I think things will get better in the future.

I started to watch your videos just yesterday 07/23/2024. I don't usually watch people but only for heathy items to eat and what not to eat as Im dealing with Kidney Didease currently.I came across your site. I really enjoy watching your travels as I have never been out of the US. I just learned of the Jack fruit. I have never heard of this fruit before. You are helping me understand different cultures and other foods that are out in the world. I find this all to be fascinating and educational. I also love how the children seem to follow you. Even tho there can be loud, which I agree lol. They are so precious and love the way you are so kind to them and everyone. Its been a pleasure to watch all of your videos. Its is a great way to distract from the everyday work and daily life distractions. We all can go on vacations with you lol. I cant seem to stop watching them now lol. Great job keep them coming!

    Include following less travelled areas.
    1. Kokkuthoduvai and beach near it ( basically noone lives there) - Mullaithivu district
    2. Mannar to Jaffna through Pooneryn, sangupitti bridge ( it has amazing view on the way) - best view during winter season. Go in a private vehicle, so you can stop in the middle and explore.
    3. Puttalam to Mannar through wilpathu jungle (less travelled by locals too). You can spot a few wild animals on the way.
    4. Thalai Mannar beach areas
    5. Eastern coast villages between Trincomalee and batticalo. Different vibes

Hello brother, it would be much easier to find coconut juice by calling them "King Coconut" or in sinhala "thabili" because in Sri Lanka Coconut we usually called are used for cooking, which does not have much juice and its a different type of coconut.
I think you should try 'Rio' Ice Cream which is famous in Jaffna and so tasty.

I visited Jaffna in Feb 2022. Very different to Colombo. I was interested in the history of the tragic civil war and wanted to visit some significant sites, eg Hindu Temple, Jaffna Library (closed because of Covid) and the damaged Portuguese Fort. The centre, though fascinating, was noticeably more run down than centres I saw in other parts of Sri Lanka. There is still catching up to do. Many cows wandering the road, lots of Hindu temples (as well as a scattering of other religions) and some nice (if neglected) beaches on the peninsula. People hospitable, like all Sri Lankans. I went by train which took 6.5 hours but I'm glad I made the effort.

Thank you for visiting this part of Sri Lanka. Jaffna is often ignored by many tourists. It may not be the most scenic part of the country but it exposes you to the great tamil culture.
While you're there make sure you visit the famous temples and check out the historic sites.
Also keep in mind the people from this part of the country have experienced the worst of the war. So be extra kind to them (I know i don't need to remind you that) lol
Ps. Make sure to visit Rio ice-cream near Nallur temple.

But never been to Jaffna. It’s very interesting. It’s very happy to see tourists there and normal daily life after 30 yrs of civil war. We watch ur all vlogs. We rented a Tuktuk in Colombo and drove it all the way up to Jafna. We love Jafna for its people. The fact that there are no tourists is a positive. The people of Jafna are loving people.

I found something very interesting in this episode, when the young vendor from market gifted him the sweets and he asked what are they called, the word sounds exactly like the word “palmera” in Spanish wich means “palm tree” I had to rewind 3 times to make sure, yes it sounds exactly the same🙂every day we learn something.

Palmyrah. Its the name of the tree. A type of a palm tree. Which grows extensively in nothern part of sri lanka. The jaggery he offered davud is made from the sap of the tree.
