No way man!!! You can't make this yard art. Get this old gal running running and moving again. That's what we came to see...
I like the fact that you clean off the loose dirt before opening things up.
This is for parts . that engine is worth more than the whole tractor. great video Thanks
Don't give up on it
Pure some diesel all over the track and in the trans and let it sit. I did that to a D6 that was froze up and a year later when i got around to messing with it, It rolled after a little bit of nudging. Long story short, I did get it running and still using it these days. Good luck with the future tear down. I know you'll enjoy driving that Jewel around and working with her. I have faith you can do it.
Yeah diesel and oil mixture loosens a lot of frozen parts! 👌🏻👍🏼👍🏼
@@kirk467 Yes sir. I put it in everything. Final drives, clutches, crankcase, trans and drown rusted racks with it. Best way to clean stuff out but not as cheap as it use to be. But still well worth it. Your videos bring back a lot of good memories from my younger days. Thank you for that.
Once you started pulling the covers off i thought O No ! His going to one more ,one more , till it was completely disassembled LoL
If you decide to fix it I’ll be watching. thanks for sharing this
I love the old equipment. They were just works of art.
This dozer came from yard art only to go right back to yard art. Makes me wonder the value of yard art
You certainly gave it a good try and you have a lot of videos if you do decide to get it running. People love this stuff. Cheers mate, Stuart 🇦🇺
Isn't it ironic that you can spend all afternoon digging out a stump and trying to get to move, but use it as a deadhead and it comes right out! That will make some good yard art!
I would fill both engines and the trans with diesel fuel and add a quart or two of ATF. Put a breaker bar on the crank and then jack the handle with maechanical jack to a fair amount of tension. Leave it alone for a few months and maybe add a little to the jack pressure. Be patient. It will turn.
I'm really enjoying the videos, Randy. I also have the Stephen Meador book, "Bulldozer" that someone else mentioned. I'll be watching your progress on the D2s.
Randy, it would be nice if you and your dad had the time and money to bring this ole D-2 back to operating condition. Blessings to you guys.
Well done!!! Shes got parts and if you wanted to take on a real project, you could likely get her going, although the tracks are beyond shot. Nice to see a young guy and his Dad working together. Cherish every moment you have with him. Lost mine when I was 20, there's no replacing him. I envy you! BTW- If you ever run across the book "Bulldozer" by Stephen Meader, grab a copy. It's all about a young guy buying a junk D2 sunk in a pond and building a business around it, including a Traxcavator! Read it when I was about 10 and later got my own copy. Good stuff with 1950's morals and ethics, as things SHOULD be!!!!! Also, I appreciate you keeping this family friendly!!!
Were I younger and in better shape, I would jump at the chance to take on this project. First thing is to drain all the cases and fill with kerosene. These are pretty basic. Lots of heavy parts but beating on them isn't always productive.
Steven Meader was a good read but there are a lot of technical issues. Switching back and forth between a dozer and Traxcavator is not all that easy. The tractors used with the Traxcavator had an extra roller and there was a solid equalizer bar. There actually was a dozer blade for the Traxcavator that used the unit to lift the blade. Saw one once when I was very young.

Hi Randy, the design reason the shifter doesn't move is because it has a clutch interlock - the clutch has to be disengaged for the shifter to move, however if the transmission is also all rusted up, that won' thelp : )
I use diesel and automatic transmission fluid thins it out a bit to get it all the nooks and crannies
Oh! Easy does it with that air hammer. Soak that stuff down.😮 I believe you can save her, it’ll take some time.👍 some things are worth it and on the old stuff it’s always going to be easy. I wish you luck.
You are committed!!!!!!!!!!!
looks like a great winter project after all the equipment is ready for spring, keep the videos coming
Look up Squatch253 if you want to learn what to do. The interlock that keeps the gears from shifting is in the clutch compartment.
And then it will sit there for another 50 years. 🙂
Hopefully it gets transported to my front yard someday...
You have to see exacly why it is yard art.
24:00 Diesel is probably not even stuck. You're still engaged to the tracks because the transmission is so rusted up. You may have air hammered it into neutral but you still have rust engaging all the gearing back there as well as the main clutch being engaged.
Well done sir! Man your dads tractor is a monster...
What you gotta do is fill that trans, clutch housing and both engines with a mixture of diesel and some marvel mystery and let her sit for a week or two. I guarantee you there will be movement, that mixture has never ever failed me
People repairing this old dozers are always looking for spare parts.
I learned a long time ago that if I was working with some thing as rusty as that to spray it down with diesel fuel very liberally. Letting it soak in for as long as you can, maybe even a second time. We hand a very old 13 speed transmission about as bad as that. Pulled the shift tower off and dumped in 5 gallons, Let it set for 2 weeks and it made things a lot easier. I've known guys who used vinarger. Try that.
I’m hoping that you keep going on the old crawler! I’m sorry for myself suggestions, I guess you’ve spent enough time on it and that’s your choice my friend! I just got excited to see it going! I appreciate you just sharing everything with us! I’m so glad to see you put it up on timbers, at least the old machine won’t be sitting on the ground again! Great! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It would be really enjoyable to watch you give that old clunker a new lease on life.
I still think you got a great find. Would be really cool to put the loader attachment on the running unit!!!
Put a pavilion over it. Pull each package, rebuild as you can. If you get it all done, re-assemble in the garage, back into the original. If a major package can't be built or replaced, you have the other packages for other machines. If all goes well, you'll put it all back together somewhere around retirement ;-)
Amazing to watch you tear into this old dozer and work getting it at least into a neutral state to make it a roller. New to your channel and apologize if in my last comment I suggested you were a newcomer to wrenching on this old iron..went back thru your impressive list of videos and it was impressive to see what you have done to date..Amazed by both the Model B & G Allis Chalmers Tractors..my dad had a B and my Uncle had a G and those hold special meaning to me. Great content and wish you much success in your channel and future saves.😊🚜🔧🛻🛠️🇺🇸😎
great soon as you started that fire i cracked a beer . fine work sir ., lets get the old dozer up and purrin
Knowing how much precision goes into making gear box cogs, I would say that gearbox is well beyond its 'Sell By Date'. Could you press ( /hammer.) each of the valves down..? That would tell you if the head is salvageable.
You have gone this far keep going cheers
Тут он простоит еще лет 100
Glad to see a follow up on the last video. I was wondering what was to become of the old Cat. Hope you decide to save her, but maybe not a complete restoration unless you got the $$. Glad you don't use a bunch of music to cover up the natural sounds. Cheers from eastern TN
It's a complete machine! Restore it.
Please please please put some oil in the cylinders before torquing on the crankshafts.
It needs to soak for a while in diesel and oil mixture brother, I hate it break! Good luck my friend! Awesome, you got it moving and I wanted to say use a air hammer on the shifter cover! lol 😂
with work the whole machine is saveable, only time cleaning etc
Gostei do vídeo eu tenho um trator valmet

70+ years of rust and neglect.
"If you don't use it you lose it."
I think your time is better spent on something not so far gone. I'd take a sprayer with light weight oil and spray the whole machine down to slow further deterioration.
Randy, where are you in the states.....it looks like Tornado country. Thoroughly enjoy these vids bro.
You can't save them all, but that doesn't mean that you don't at least try to do what you can.
Who knows you may come across another one, are something similar in your wonderings, and then you have two things going for you now.
One you've learned what n where all the key components are located at, and you have possibly spare parts that might come in handy for you or someone else..
Like the gentlemen said pour some of my blend in on top to preserve the wood, slow the veggies down, and lubricant everything good.
I mix atf, old used 15/40 Rotella, and equal parts of diesel together in a old two gallon pump sprayer.
Then soak everything down good, just saturate everything possible, and then at the end of summer spray everything down good once more, because the first batch eat it's way into the rust and dirt everything is encased in.
The second batch has a head start mow, and can really get in the old joints, and moving components.
Well got a thunderstorm moving in on us down here again, so better go check out how much wind is coming in front of this round.
Stay safe, and keep up the good work
I wouldn't totally give up on this old crawler yet. Keep it soaking in diesel and oil and you may eventually get it to rolling. It's just going to take some time. Not many of these around so any effort to save it even as just a roller would be worth it.
Remember,it took a lot of years to get that way so it will take time to fix!
When your winching a heavy load take the truck out of park and chock the tires unless you want to break the park prawl in the transmission.
Truck was in neutral, parking brake applied.
Fill it the rest of the way with diesel and let it soak for a while! I hope you get it rolling my friend! I don’t think diesel is too expensive to get some try soaking the gears!
You might wanna watch Squatch 253 likes to build Track loaders
Well after all you got a lot of good parts there you could use I wouldn't scrap it
Fill the Bores with Diesel and forget it for a week or so
Squatch253 rebuilt D2 5J1113 because the TH-cam algorithm said it produced clicks, likes, and watch minutes. Otherwise, he said from a financial position that it was really should have been a parts unit because of its overall poor condition. 5J1113 seemed to be in much better condition than this D2. Just sayin’. Good luck!
Maynbe the clutch has everything hung up. With water in it there's a good possibility. Blessings
Maybe some one watching has a bunch of D2s, including a crawler w/o blade that would use the loader frame.
The loader also requires the 5 roller extended track frame, hard-bar chassis mounts and front PTO drive. It would be a TON of work to swap. And I'd be left with only a pile of parts.
That will go get some stuff in it she will start
With the tracks locked up that engine will not turn over
pull the injectors. my just have water in there
If at first you don’t succeed with getting something unloaded just add more horsepower!!!
Pop a tin can over those steer levers !
if somebody trips and lads on them itll spear em !!
The rougher it is the better the content, do a little more research on seized diesels before you give up on her. More subscribers will come.
fill all that stuff with aceitone and atf . llol
I thought you might try some heat.
Maybe start with the big tractors 1st.
The turbine at safe harbor, have to ware a fresh air hood, for hexivalent chromium
Part it out
i think you gave up on it to fast ...well you did give up on it to fast
Better get a bigger hammer
