What is that ring that goes in between the two pieces on top of the headset? I see some people don't put that there...

it’s a slotted washer, to prevent the first screw (bottom) turning during the top screw being tightened

Yes.. I observed didn’t use grease at all. But guess it is the general overview of the installation that helps people to know how to install .. thanks for the effort

No grease, torque or proper tools. This is completely the way NOT to replace a headset
