My late sweetheart wife crossed that bridge so many times driving people to their medical appointments. Now that I see it i get sad, because she no longer can cross it and tell me of her day in the afternoon 😢
Not knowing what has happened on this bridge, for the past 3 years when I cross it daily 2x per day, Its always my quiet time. I pray and thank God for life everytime I see that magical view coming over the other side! This bridge has been very important in my life. It's peaceful. Crazy that so many lost their life here, that's sad. Sorry to the families this was not that long ago.
2:40-2:50 It's really a shame no one was listening to this man back in 1987. It took more than 40 years, and hundreds of lives lost for them to finally put up netting just this year.
Faces of Flight I hid in the floorboard in 1966 (age 5 then) the first time I remember crossing the old skyway and then a wreck occurred at the top causing us to be stuck for 2 hours at the incline from north to south, I cried as my mother got out of the car to peek over the side of the bridge thinking she would fall over.......memories!
I remember when the first bridge went down, but I was really young then. I am not sure I ever went over it. Hell, I am not sure I've gone over the new one. I've lived in Tampa proper most of my life and I hate St Pete. If I ever do have to go there I normally take the Howard Frankenstein or occasionally the Gandy if I am hitting the east side for the fishing.
Currently getting ready to get a few hours sleep 3:52 am Dec. 20.22 life is good. Huge fish, schools of sting rays. To be able to be this far and deep into the water is beautiful. The big new bridge and all its lights, watching all the cars in slow motion drive up and down as they cross. Incase the rest of this bridge decides to go, I’m happy. We all die eventually, might as well go out happy. J.P.
Every summer my family visited extended family in Tampa/St. Pete followed by crossing the SS Bridge heading for Sarasota and ultimately the clean and uncrowded beaches of Longboat Key. Looking over at the "fishing pier" while crossing the new bridge was always unsettling to me.
Lol Rod the geographical mastermind, Australia is near the UK isn't it? Rod Munch, really showing the world that the stereotypical American doesn't know what life is like outside their own state, let alone their country.
It's ridiculous and it shouldn't ever build a lot of people won't even go over it because they're so scared of it. They shouldn't build a flight strap bridge that you can go over the water

I used to visit family in Tampa/St. Pete every summer and it seemed like suicides on the Sunshine Skyway was always a topic of local news.
FWIW, that was Barry Mogil, former head of Pinellas County EMS. He died a couple of years ago. He and his wife Shirley were good friends of ours.
What about 1:25
I remember driving over the old span as a kid and being absolutely terrified!

I've been here 52 years now. Never liked riding over that bridge as well. Very scary.

I've crossed it before 3 weeks ago, it's 1 hour and 54 minutes away from where I live, I went to see obituary at brass mug
Jesus christ did you just give me 90's flashbacks lol.
Went under that bridge last year on a cruise ship it was magnificent day or night

ive been driving over it for rideshare. it was spooky the first 4-5 times now it doesnt phase me at all after about 30 uses
The cantilevered truss bridge looked so much cooler!
you wouldn't want to know the story of it, but if you have, oh well, there goes my chance to tell you a story
I mean not really they’re both equally ugly in different ways.
I drove across the old bridge in July of 1986. That was not my intention. Glad I did it though. I will never forget that drive.
That man at the end can see the future cuz hundreds of ppl have committed suicide jumping off that bridge over the years.
Absolutely true. I live on the south side of the bridge and there have been a lot of suicides.
I drive over the new one
Fishing 🎣 ? on the “old” Skyway ? lol 😂..... not me. Oh hell no.
I hated driving across that bridge.
It is very cool to drive over, but it is very very scary.
That British guy is really busting up those bad teeth stereotypes.
LMAO! I had to see for myself. Too Damn funny.
He's Australian.

😂😂😂😂😂 I was thinking 🤔 the same thing 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬
Often imitated (the Sen. William V. Roth/C & D Canal Bridge being an example), but never duplicated.
Been over both. This one dwarfs that little canal bridge.
My dad and mom and I drove over the bridge
I liked the oldee Truss bridge better!
Are you crazy?
Sug lagui
It looked so beautiful! It was cute how they were twins too! Truss bridges not only have more style, they are a lot cooler looking too!
42luke roblox good point actually...
Sug lagui
Thank you.
@@42luke93 nah the new one looks modern and clean. Those old truss bridges look super industrial and dirty
I call it 44
The bridge is a mess, to many accidents on it.
There’s da old bridge that got hit by the liner boat thing
It's not that scary. Have driven over it many times.
Moth man

How does a ship strike a bridge?
No one has talked about that here. Odd.
If you are drunk you can wreck anything.
Actually I think it was fog and faulty navigation equipment.
Yeah the weather was really bad the boat driver didn’t do anything wrong he just couldn’t see because it was so rainy
It hit the support, which was unprotected. The new bridge has bumpers blocking ships from hitting the supports.
@@GH-oi2jfthe olds spans had wooden protectors installed with the completion of the 1971 truss, but they rotted away due to poor maintenance.
I hate that bridge.
