now take the time to source salvage yard parts before going to new holland & handing them $2K. those turtles that ball bearing previous owner just gave up on life and i think there suppose to be a shield over that vertical cutter bar drive shaft. when it's hay season and your fighting weather having a account with FarmPlan is a must. i did everything i could to keep dad away from the machinery or it looked like this. he always said "ha ha ha it's like a rock pile out there" dads idea of fixing was going to caseih & coming home with a new one that i can't afford
Your story has been told in many ways with father/son farm operations. I've heard some guys complain their dads hold on to old stuff too long and others say the opposite. With me, I may lean towards putting up money for stuff that works, but at least we have a consensus that we don't need brand new equipment. For the most part, when looking for a tractor, we are looking at older stuff that doesn't have proprietary tech to prevent farmers from working on it. It's like JD adopted Apple's business plan... CaseIH maybe going that way too... or they all are.
