    The little handy cubby on thr door is for a small foldable umbrella, so that you don't have to bring a wet umbrella into your car. Hope more competition in Australia. Tesla has dropped at least $35k because of competition, I guess it will keep dropping to match the Chinese EVs.

      For the Chinese market version. The is a light which lights up the ground at night when you get off the car. It’s a safety feature basically. Can’t tell if they removed that for Australian market. Maybe just because it is day time so the car did not turn it on😂

      I have a Cannon X and a Hilix (24 SR5) and that isn't true. Toyota is way more refined but I love the Canon. Can't fault it.

    Not GWM fault about the distraction monitor . That is the same with all new cars but you can switch it off or even put a small bit of black tape over it and you don’t be bothered again .

    So many things I've seen that you haven't bothered to mention. There's images that keep moving in the panel directly ahead of the front passenger seat. What does that do? There's mood lighting. The attention to detail like branded lighting etc. 24 minutes of watching and I still don't know the car.

    I’ve been to China, on business, over 50 times since the late 90’s. My money for those little side “bins” in the rear door frame are designed for mini umbrellas. As having a tan is regarded as being poor (not to be used to keep you dry).

    Either an emergency torch or a multitool knife in one side, and a basic first aid kit on the other.
    It'll have to be a DIY type of thing.

    I own Cannon L and my issue is the acceleration . How does this feel ? Does it take off quicker than my diesel engine ? And how is the engine noise are they like SUV?

    For how long is the car able to give the max torque? I am thinking for long sessions of 4x4 will the battery dies at some stage and leave you with a poor 2LT engine struggling?

      It's not a plug in hybrid. The batteries are charged off the combustion engine and brakes.

    So this is equivalent to the Ute version of the Tank 500. The Tank 500 is a real eye opener in every way. 0 to 100 kmh in 6.9 sec. The elect motor has so much Torque its not funny. Go read up on the Tank 500 to see what people think of it, as this ute is more of same. Tank 500 is a Prado style wagon. Tank 500 Fuel economy on Eco mode is 8.5L per 100km

    That's why it's called "EYESIGHT" technology.... not "Sunglasses" technology. My Subaru Forester doe sthe same... I just push 3 buttons in a nano second and turn the whole shebang off.... back to basics 😂

    Is this full time 4WD or part time? Can you drive 4WD on sealed roads? Getting mixed I go from different reviews

      The Cannon Alpha uses the same 4x4 system as the GWM Ute, which means you can use the 4x4 system on sealed roads, It is a part-time system, and switching to Eco mode will see it operate in two-wheel drive, otherwise it operates as as a four-wheel drive.

    The reviewer keeps trying to compare the Alpha to trucks like the Ram and F150 which is a bullshit comparison. The Alpha (Shanhai) is still a mid sized pickup it's not a full size like the F150 or Ram. You can't compare it to full size. Comparing the Alpha to an F150 is like comparing a Miata and an Aventador because theyre both sports cars....

    the top spec of this Ute in China is more premium than this, the cubby hole is a welcome light projecting to the ground when you open the door. Bur here in Australia, it's downgraded, also the rear suspension is like Tank 500,also there is a performance version in China.

      I agree….that little battery will be working pretty hard. It might do 10 cycles a day so maybe 50 a week, that’s 2500 a year. Might last 3-4 years at that rate

      It's not a plug in hybrid. Batteries are kept charged by the petrol engine and braking.

    The only realistic way you can tow 3.5T with this is to do it solo.
    No kids in the back, the Mrs stays home, nothing but a beach towel in the tray and add a full tank of fuel.
    The Chinese clearly aren't good at designing engines or carrying loads.

      Chinese spacecrafts were also dismissed as never be in the same class as those from NASA. What do you know? Their Change 6 just made a soft landing on the dark side of the moon, just a couple of hours ago. Meanwhile NASA Artemis 2 moon mission is still on the launching pad.
      Like their high speed trains are now on the same level as Japan. Never say never when it comes to China.

    I'm so sceptical about these cars... yeah they may be great value... and I might just be a conspiracy theorist... but are they just a way for China to collect more data from us? Facial recognition with 'driver attention monitoring", data on where we are travelling around, recording of conversations both in the car and Bluetooth... In the event of conflict with China could they just shut all these cars down remotely? I really do sound like a conspiracy theorist don't I... 😊
