Put a pair of these in a samick epiphone les Paul standard I’ve been restoring. Sound like the real deal and if they’re not they’re still pretty legit.
This video convinced me to buy a pair. Not going to lie, loved your frustration with the wrapping. I ordered probuckers with zebra coils, but expect this to be Alnico Classic Pros instead.
Consensus on the pickups is that they are definitely epiphone. Note for those buying that they come with long shaft metric pots. I put these in a fender tele deluxe, so some adaptation was needed. Mine seem to be alnico classic pro as expected. They (Alnico V) are brighter than the BurstBuckers (Alnico II), though the output is comparable on each. A couple changes that I made: Switchkraft switch instead of Epiphone because my epi switches always fail, switchkraft output jack to fit through electrosocket jack, had to solder the bridge ground in, had to re-solder several ground wires because they were weak connections and fell off with mild jostling (a test I do before installing pre-wired harnesses). I also added an extra nut and locking washer to all the pickups because those did not come with the wiring harness. My packaging was much more appropriate than this video was. Total cost was $44 so they certainly didn't pass the savings on packaging to me! No aluminum foil wrapping and no sticker on the backside of the pickup indicating ID. On the shoreline gold tele that I modded, the zebra pickups make it look like a really nice gold top. Overall, I wish I had got these sooner. It transformed a mud caster into a great HH platform that is super versatile and complimentary to my Les Paul for less than the cost of a tank of gas.
Chinese Epiphone Probuckers? I hope so,that's where Epiphone is made. I bought these off Ali-Express with full wiring harness with coil splits -$50 U.S. They sound and respond fantastic.
I've put two sets of these pickups in different guitars (for the coil split option). They are excellent and sound like the pups in my Epiphone 1950"s standard. Really great value.
I think the real question is for 27gbp or whatever in your currency you get a decent pair of good sounding pickups delivered to your door that come close to pupus that would cost 10x more. If you don't like them sell them on you won't loose your change if that's what you're worried about. I've lost more on a bottle of wine that cost more and was very average.
When they arrived I fully expected to not get what was pictured - just generic unbranded stuff, never would have guessed they would be identical to what I've seen in stock epi pros, personally not a big fan of probuckers (prefer just a bit more power), in that sub 100 a set price range I'd go for Iron Gear or GFS if I lived in the states, but you're right, they do sound great for very little money
I know I’m late to this video but I’ve ordered my 2nd that came today. I ordered mine from Amazon also musoo and came exactly the same packaging. Quite quick considering. I Love my 1st set. I really think they’re real ones.it’s all there, the stamps & stickers etc. My 1st set had no stickers or probucker plastic but they said they were probuckers not the alnico classics showing on the film. I put them in my 04 epi LP standard & it’s a massive improvement over every pickups I’ve had in it. Just the perfect match. They’re so cheap I had to get another & they came with all the stuff on them.
I have a Les Paul 100 and the pickup connectors are just too big to go through the holes in the body, how do I make the holes bigger so that the connectors can go through ?
Probably a drill bit big enough with plenty of length to get through to the cavities, or cut the connectors off/unplug each wire from them then reattach when they're through
I had a LP100 as well. When I installed those probuckers I bored the existing holes a bit larger, then pushed the connectors inside by trying to keep the longer side parallel to the hole walls as much as possible.
With these quick connect wiring harnesses do you have to solder the ground wire to the pots when you install the new harness? Or are the grounded through the wiring harness somehow?
Yeah still have to solder the wire, but I think this harness had one, but that would mean popping out a bridge stud to feed it through or soldering that wire to the existing wire
Maybe just the bridge ground, might have already been soldered but would mean removing a post to feed it through, also need to make sure the switch connector feeds through the cavity, a lot of non-pro models have a smaller wire channel, in that case you would need to unsolder the switch to feed the through, maybe the same with the pickups - all depends on your exact guitar
No, bought the probuckers on the basis of "looks like a duck, walks like a duck" - I cannot distinguish these from ones I've taken out of stock epis in any way including sound Proper counterfeit like fake seymours, emgs and chibsons are always a gamble when they're not made to the same standard as the real manufacturers - look at unbranded stuff with the same kind of spec if you're looking to upgrade on a budget or grab something quality like Wilkinson or Iron Gear or save for the real deal, I fully expected these probuckers not to even work - imagine trying to return something to China - not fun
Compared to the artist and Irongear the probuckers are way underpowered, although if you want to go for an ACDC vibe in the SG, have you thought about Irongear rolling mills? Can't really go wrong with any of them, just depends what you want the SG to do
Seller was musooparts Store - if you're using paypal you can probably just use any seller, not hard to find at all, I always try to go for higher rated sellers
Yes, this guitar had a pair of either seymour duncans or bareknuckles (was a year ago but definitely one of those 2 brands) full CTS, switchcraft & orange drop harness, and none of the original parts were included, so the goal was to put it as close to stock for as little cost as possible before selling it on Back then I had a few stock epi's with probuckers shortly before and after working on this one so I'm relying on memory to compare what these sound like to those - they're all in the same ball park which leads me to believe these are off the same production line
The answer would really be no BUT there's nothing off about them - like you look at chibsons etc. You see what's different from a genuine guitar where these pickups sound and look like the real deal
Yes, they had about as much excess on the bottom as known real ones and with the amount of gain I used in the sound demo unpotted pickups have squealed in the past
It's amazing to me how many Nickel Snobs are so petty that their willing to take the time to critic a thirty-dollar set of pickups that they know nothing about and so cheap that there not even willing to find out for their self. Ask yourself this, why are they watching and commenting on this video?? Oh, they just finished polishing their R9 Les Paul, right? So, if they had done their research, tried a couple sets, use a little common sense, their comment would probably say something like "Best kept pickup secret". So please keep it up. More for ME! Over a dozen and counting......
If you think these are the mudbuckers you're lucky you never experienced the true mudbuckers of the mid 2000's to early 10's - truly awful, these are actually good by comparison

@@marshallmason1621 very true. Tho it's just better to buy a new set of pickups and upgrade to CTS pots on the way. A pair of Probuckers on ebay costs like 40 dollars with a wiring harness

I think this is legit. It sounds good. That means whoever build this pickups definitely knows what he's doing. It will be more profitable if they make fake duncans or dimarzio but they don't.
@@5150stephen oh yeah never have hands on the fake duncan and EMG though. I installed these AliExpress probucker on my chibson. While i don't know if it sounds the same as the real thing, it definitely sounds better then the stock ceramic chibson pickups.
Epiphone don't make pickups. "Designed by Epiphone USA". If you watch the China factory videos, they do woodwork, paint and assembly. No pickup winding. They outsource the metal parts. Some factory in China is mass producing the ProBuckers for Epiphone to make money. They may well be making the Epiphone harnesses too, since they seem to come with the pickups. Of course, somebody could stamp Epiphone on a $10 pickup set and sell for $50, but forging the fact that they throw in a harness (stamped "Epiphone") when they don't have to, and that there is nothing physical different from the real thing suggests that they are _likely_ from the same source that Ephiphone use.
