- Rotary Engine's don't always have the best reputation. With reliability issues, high maintence, having to mix fuel, and much more - they aren't exactly a turn key result all the time. However Michael Vargas and Angel Motorsports have dedicated over a decade in trying to figure out what the most fun and reliable Rotary engines are. Michael was kind enough to let me take a rip in his absolutely crazy 800HP 3 rotor RX-7. This was my first time experiencing the three rotor and I can say it's the most unique combustion motor experience I've ever had. So let's talk about it.

They don't what? Are you sure about that? They are probably the most famous Rotary builders in the USA, they get cars from all over the country to get build by them.
They’ve been the biggest rotary builders of the TH-cam era, they have exposure through half of the biggest “jay dee em” channels. You basically never hear of any of the big socal shops besides DNA and that’s a newer shop by some OGs

@@ellestice3996 I get what you're saying, and I agree, but still, think about it. There is a seatbelt on the driver's side, and Mike is usually the only one in the car, so I don't really see a problem. David is a great driver and respectful of other people's cars, so I doubt anything would happen.

For real tho, 3p conversions are fire, but dont know about their streetability, have a friend convert some for his e36, of course, he bought a used set, they leak around the face because they were never straight, some good silicone got rid of the problem but really, welding them would be the best solution, i would do that only with a new set
So happy the boys over at angel motorsports are getting the recognition they deserve for being the best rotary tuners and builders in the US! Iv been following them for years and to see them collaborating with massive youtubers is crazy!

I've just recently started really paying attention to rotary engines and what they're capable of. To say the least I'm completely blown away!! Small package, big turbo and mind boggling power! Did I mention the noise those beast make?! Absolutely awesome!! Along with that I feel foolish saying that I only gave Rob Dahm all my attention when it came to anything rotary. I'm taking absolutely nothing away from Rob but I'm truly excited to see so many other badass tuners out there with sic builds too!! Awesome video!!!
The story at 11:49 is what I always knew would be a limiter to these cars growing up.
I remember Tokyo Nights and all the talks about how they did it in Japan, where they would build 20-30,000 transmissions that could handle the insane power it takes to get up to 170-200mph range.
Ive ALWAYS wanted one of those drivetrain setups, know thats what Im doin with a 20B when I get one...
But then I really need to consider how much it will cost to get the CG/balance and suspension set up to be SAFE at such insane speeds.
Ive done 184mph on my R1. Thats scary AF. Kudos to the sized balls you have to roll this bad boy! What a beautiful setup and ownership. Love that, brother.

I want an FD with a 20B/3-rotor in it so badly! One of my JDM dream cars. It doesn't even have to be that built, lol. Just the usual stuff like street port, studs, etc., flex fuel sensor w/ E85 tune, and a small turbo, and I'd LOVE it. 400-500 wheel HP and it would be amazing.

Very cool. My favourite sounding car over a phone speaker is hp logics n/a 3 rotor, itb semi p port rx7 race car. Gives me tingles everytime i hear his intro that has that sound. Probably weighs about a ton and makes 300ish, just a sick build that would be so much fun.

Been waiting for this video for the longest. The 20b is one of my favorite motors they sound so good they also sound like a rb or 1jz mixed with a 13b.

Yea, i miss Va beach meets. Rolling with all the rotaries was an experiwns experience. All the flames, exhaust pops, noice and eye burning fuel smell. Saludos a Mike, Johnny and Angelo Vargas.
I lived for years in Chesapeake a mile or so from their shop and always loved seeing what was at in their lot. Been stuck in traffic and hear 2 step and smile 👍

I miss those meets, we still have them out here at Freedom Wash in Virginia Beach but I miss the Jenro's days. The parking lot would be FULL of cars and people. We would head out to Mexico aka North Hampton Blvd for some rolls, bust a u turn and make another pull then head back to Jenro's or Freedom

The 3 rotor is the perfect blend among all the rotaries for me. 2 rotor= lower torque, more farty noise. 4 rotor= sounds like a god tier n/a engine, more torque, but much too complicated to run and maintain. But the 3 rotor? Perfect blend between the two. Much more even torque spread, Sounds way more exotic than a 13b, and maintaining it isnt gonna be a gigantic pain like a 4 rotor. TRC did a feature on one a while ago, a 3 rotor making 900whp mated to a BMW dual clutch trans.
except for a 20b is rare as fuck, and insanely expensive. this is angel motorsports not some random guy
13B is still the best pound for pound performance rotary engine, more net HP per dollar, the quickest rotary in the world is a 13B look it up
