When you are a kid, there's no such thing as bad quality, everything looks good and Gigantor among the countless animated series I used to watch growing up, is no exception. Still, it warms me with nostalgia to see it again for the first time since the late seventies.
Warner Brothers released the entire classic series on two fantastic volumes in the 1990's. Brought back a lot of memories of watching these episodes each night along with some of America's best classic animation on local New York TV. So many hours of truly fun TV!

When we were kids, my best friend and I competed to see who could make the best "Gigantor" in the backyard out of junk and old cans and crap. Summers seemed to last forever when we were 7 years old.
In my 20's and 30's I asked everyone if they had seen this show. I thought I was going crazy until Rosie O'Donnell mentioned it on her show. I was vindicated, lol!!

Gigantor is my favorite cartoon of all time! There was a time, probably back in the late 60s, or early 70s, when I knew just about every episode of this cartoon! No one could pull me away from the TV, or change the channel, if they did, I would have a fit! My siblings hated me! I was the youngest one! I used to think my father was Gigantor, when I was a child. When he was a little older, he was a little round like Gigantor. His watchband reminded me of Gigantor's bands he had on his wrists. Gigantor was my childhood hero, my father was my hero all the days when he was alive! He's still my hero, for all the days that I still live. That's why this cartoon means so much to me! I'm 61 years old now, will be 62 this May. Long live Gigantor!
Wow, this is unbelievable. I remember watching this, Speed Racer, and fucking SUPER CAR (which i have the original album) on tv. How many of you remember Super car?? Does this bring back memories for everyone else like it does for me? LOL These japanese cartoons were so cheesy, but were also so enjoyable. This was the beginning of the era of japanese cartoons.
Ah, yes, they never were really popular untill "Astroboy" became an anime series. Almost every anime since then was either directly inspired by astroboy and so enjoyed sucess, or indirectly so.
I remember it to, mainly because of the tune Gigantor the famous Robot . I wondered if I had imagined that Robot with a pointy nose one of my earliest memories along with Tinker and Taylor another children programme on Saturdays I think! Mark X

I've been trying to get someone to know Gigantor as it's the first memory of a cartoon I have and good old TH-cam has helped me. I even did the arm thing like him😍
When you are 6, 7 or 8 years old, television is in black and white, and there are only 13 good channels, this becomes the hi-light of your day, especially with chaos on the streets of New York City and a world at war. Everything was huge and wondrous back then. We took nothing for granted.

Man. This is actually pretty good. I was expecting something really goofy simplistic and harmless. The plot is decent. Animation is better than I expected and must have been amazing for the time. If I was a kid back then, I’d definitely be into this.
I just now came across this (and before that the theme song....to which I listened to a few times until stumbling here) this is quite the show here...never knew this existed....
Although they keep saying in the episodes that it's the year 2000 but they basically stayed in the 60s, where are the cell phones, they still Show flash bulbs when people take pictures,. But I Loved the show as a kid
I have more respect for the villains in this show than the villains in real life and even more so than most of the good guys in real life. They know they are up against a robot that can fly 973MPH, has armor that can shrug off a 127mm round like its just a BB-gun shooting a plate carrier steel plate, they watched as without even a attack other than melee it kills over half their soldiers in mere minuets, and what do they do? They lead the charge of their army on the front line in a fighter plane in zones where there is a anti aircraft gun literally everywhere you can fit one. And what do leaders in real life do? Hide in bunkers, and distance themselves, stay in the most defended parts of their own country. Cowards all of them!

This was on VHF broadcast TV back in the 60s. Later the anime moved to the UHF band, not nearly as good reception as VHF.
