      I know this comment is 2 years old but I wish I had known all this a few hours ago. Here's what I found out:
      www.qgistutorials.com/en/docs/raster_mosaicing_and_clipping.html
      There's a tutorial that goes a little more in depth.
      viewer.nationalmap.gov/basic/
      > Create a USGS account , login, and return to the above URL (need to be logged in for some steps to work),
      > Above the map, select "Use Map",
      > Hit the radio button "Box/Point",
      > Click-and-drag the square that you want to capture on the map,
      > In the left-column, check "Elevation Products (3DEP)",
      > Find the datasets you want (for Maine, I used 1/3 arc-second DEM),
      > Click "Find Products" near the top of the page,
      > Click "[Cart]+ Page" to add all the files to the cart (I had 42 files total),
      > Click "View Cart",
      > Click "Export URLS to Text" (top left, above all the images) (you will need to download all these images with uGet),
      > Click "uGet Instructions" (to the left of "Export URLs to Text).
      It takes a while to stagger through everything but once you have all the logins and programs downloaded it goes by quickly. If you only need 1 or 2 images then you can skip the uGet part and download them using the USGS page.

    Tools today has the first bit, #46272 listed as a "Foam" upcut bit?

    • @ToolsToday
      @ToolsToday  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While listed as designed for "foam" - most bits will still cut through material, but the finish it leaves is based on tool and flute geometry. In this case, the pass was meant make a cut-out, where the finish was unimportant. We don't recommend doing this. In retrospect we would have chosen a down-cut spiral bit such as 46202-K to make that cutout.

      I was hoping you wouldn't mind emailing me the files you already created for this project. My friend and I have a HAAS 5-axis and would love to try this ourselves, but if we had your files it would really cut down on the overhead (no pun intended). And of course we'd purchase all the new cutting tools we need from ToolsToday.

    I came across your TH-cam site a couple weeks ago and must admit, I am impressed. We have a CNC router and are looking to get into cutting 3D. Totally new here to cutting like this. We have a 5x10 router and program with EnRoute. I have attached a few pics the owner of our company is interested in. Most of our product will be cut out of hardwood. Can you give me a little insight into tooling? We have typ. router bits, .04 & .02 engraving and I just ordered 1/4" to 1/8" & 1/4 to 1/16" tapered ballnose bits. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

    Very cool. I had a question regarding that really long 1/4" bit. It says it's a Solid Carbine Spiral bit Amana Tool #46272. I would love to buy a bit that would have a DOC of that long, which is 2 1/4" as shown on your website. BUT... It says it is for cutting foam. Is it fine for cutting hardwood? I assume it is as this is what you are cutting with that reclaimed walnut. Can you comment on that please? It says a step down of 0.005" is that DOC for that toolpath? In the video it shows that first cut which looks like it is at least 3/8" in depth. Thanks.

    • @noahlorang203
      @noahlorang203 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks!
      A foam cutting bit is probably not the best choice if you don't absolutely need the DOC, but I did it for this map and have done it before. Chatter becomes the biggest issue -- if you have any substantial runout in your spindle or router, you're likely to break it.
      Depth of cut for the cut shown was actually 0.25".

    • @petershupe3460
      @petershupe3460 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do need the DOC. Ideally I'm looking for a 3/8" diameter with a DOC of 2 1/2", but they don't seem to exist, but there is a foam cutter that would work. I have a decent spindle, I think. I just bought a dial gauge so I will be checking. It should be fine. I really need that DOC and my actual DOC for each pass could be 1/2 or 1/3 of bit diameter, which should result in very little torque. I might buy one of the 1/4" and 3/8" and test them out. It's just they are not cheap but they could solve and replace a number of bits if it works OK. Thanks.
