So dumb of many individuals whom rather write a negative comment on this video than a positive. You all negative peeps tend to know so much and yet do not make videos yourself. Obviously watching this video for a reason, because you simply do not know how. GREAT VIDEO AND YOUR TIME AND KINDNESS IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!
This is EXACTLY what I've been struggling to find! I started with some pavers I like alot, but was forced to pause construction of my patio. In the meantime company went out of business and I cant even find pavers that are readily accessible that are the same dimensions let alone look! This is PERFECT! THANK YOU!
I think some of the comments here are taking this project a bit too literally. Yep, it's a heck of a lot of time and expense to copy one ugly paving slab but that's not the point; it's a demonstration of potential. Using these methods and materials you could make some pretty unique cast concrete pieces, beyond practical limitations the only boundary is your skill and imagination. I'm inspired enough to give this a closer look. Thanks for the video Polytek.
Awesome video, awesome product. One thing I might add is that applying release agent to the bottom edge of the melamine sidewalls of the form might prevent rubber from getting between the bottom board and the sidewalls. Clay on the outside prevents rubber from leaking out but it can still seep down there, making demolding a bit of a chore.
I see the negative comments are poring in. This video is not saying you must build this, it’s not even recommending that you do this. The purpose is to give instructions on how to build a copy of ANYTHING you might want or need to copy. With that said have a wonderful pessimist life.
Actually, for myself, based on the cost of all the time spent and materials purchased, it appears as if just buying an already manufactured mold, would be a better option. Just my opinion.
I would use this technique to copy an antique or ancient stone that wouldn't be available as paver in a hardware store. It would be perfect for 'one of a kind' restoration situations.
Fantastic!!! I have some old plaster garden plaques that belonged to my granny that are too fragile to put out. This will allow me to make a mold of them and put the copies out. Thanks.
Oh dear! I am so happy envious of this lucky lady that had that made for her. I would like one the same, and could you please bring the mold with you. I think I am funny. No offence ment. Sherie Rodrigues from Australia. (70) Going to try though, with help of course. Thank you for sharing this. Bye
Thank you for the video instructions. I like the way you clamped the mold frame & saw your other reply about it also being adjustable that way. I was looking for a way to make a mold to put a stone pattern on concrete fence gravel boards & concrete posts. Which this should allow me to do and of course lets you make a mold for many things, so thanks again.
The video is how to make a mould of anything u want too and not about making pavers...its about the product u use to make a mould... Clearly some don't get it.
So, after all of that is it cheaper to do this as opposed to buying a stepping stone from the box store? Of course, I'm talking about doing a new walkway or patio as opposed to trying to match one paver from an old patio.
Thanks for the great video. Could I use something besides a wooden box to create a mold? I have a small paver as my model and was thinking I could use a medium-sized plastic container.
How does the hard mould rubber you used in this video compare to ABS plastic moulds for longevity ? How many times could you use the rubber mould before it became unusable ? Thanks for an interesting video.
Hi Chris - Thank you for watching! It very much depends on the mold design and what material is being cast into the mold, but generally, you can get hundreds of concrete castings when the proper release agent is used and when the mold is well taken care of.
There are some stultifyingly short-sided comments on here about this video. I am totally inspired after watching it! I want to make concrete “pavers” from ceramic sculptures I’ve made that appear to be large fossils and archeological pieces. This is the exact information I need to know. One question, a comment on here mentioned using diesel fuel as a release agent. Would that not attack the material of the mold?
Thank you for watching, Belle! We would not recommend using diesel fuel as a release agent - there are a number of concrete release agents available and we manufacture one as well (Pol-Ease 2650 Release Agent).
Great job on the video instructions! Thank you for taking the time to do a professional job. I have some wood from an old barn we took down on our farm that I think would make beautiful pavers; however, I feel framing and other inside projects would be a better use of this beautiful wood. Making a rubber mold of the wood allows me to do both. Would this process work with wood, and, if so, will I need to modify the ingredients or amounts given in the video?
Thank you for watching! Absolutely - this process also works well on wood, but careful preparation is key. Although the shape of the wood piece may be a bit different, this video will help with the basic steps for making a mold of wood: th-cam.com/video/EYW8R3yE1SI/w-d-xo.html
Uh, a rough idea of the cost per "manufactured" paver vs material cost of "cast your own"? Just 'typical' home center pavers. (Not counting mold materials, of course.). Thank you.
Hi Joseph - Thank you for watching! This mold required ~11.2 lb of Poly 75-70 Liquid Rubber. A 16-lb kit of Poly 75-70 currently costs $143.00. This cost doesn't include any other supplies, including release agents, tools, mold box materials, concrete mix, etc., so the cost could fluctuate depending on what materials you already have on-hand. It's difficult to say how many castings you will get in total - it varies depending on a number of factors - the design of the mold, the use of proper release agent, mold maintenance, the concrete mix, etc. We have seen customers get hundreds and thousands of concrete parts out of a single mold.
After everything is said and done, supposing that the slab cost $5 how many would you have to make to recoup the mold material cost. And approximately how much was the material to make a slab?

Hello Patrick - Thank you for watching! Certain resins (e.g., polyurethane plastics) can be poured into polyurethane molds with the proper release agent (e.g., Pol-Ease 2300 Release Agent).
Hi Brian - Thank you for watching! This mold box can absolutely be re-used. The great thing about this set-up is that the box can be adjusted depending on the project size (and then secured with the c-clamps). The only thing you need to be aware of is possible cross-contamination of different materials. As an example - if you were to pour tin-cured silicone rubber into the mold box and then come back later and pour a platinum-cured silicone rubber into the same mold box, residual tin compound from the first pour could cause cure inhibition in the platinum-cured silicone rubber.
