    If you're trying to take down thick weeds and heavy vegetation, add this bladed head to your Ryobi cordless or hybrid trimmer and get the job done effortlessly. The head has two serrated blades and installs easily, by simply removing the spool cap and spool and snapping the bladed head into place.

    Used these blades a few times , last summer. Near any metal or brick type of edging, FORGET IT. They DO get torn up FAST. Plain grass /basic weeds, no problems.

    • @sleeepy2
      @sleeepy2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So I guess they would be no good for edging then, correct?

  • @lorismith5000

    Everyone is saying how fast they wear down. They are only meant for grass and weed, not for thicker brush, branches or small saplings. No one said you can hit hard surfaces with them. Use them properly and they will work like a charm.

      The blades shown in this video are the older version and they are a lot more durable than the new version with replaceable blades.
      The older blades worked fine for me trimming around fences and cornerstones and such.
      I used to wear out 2-3 trimmer heads of this version per summer.
      The new version with replaceable blades is a whole other matter.
      I have done one run of trimming this spring so far with the new version.
      The same lawn and exactly the same areas trimmed as last summer with the older versions.
      Approx 5 minutes of work.
      3 pairs of blades already busted.
      Not worn out, they all shattered.
      They shatter at the first minor contact with the mesh in a mesh fence.
      They shatter at the first contact with soil.
      They shatter at the first contact with any piece of wood or stones larger than 1/2 inch.
      The new version only works fine in areas where there are no risk at all for hitting anything else than grass.
      The only problem for this product is that for those areas a lawn mower is the tool to use and not a trimmer.
      The whole purpose of these smaller trimmers is to cut the grass around objects where the lawn mower can't reach.
      With such weak blades, you can't even use your trimmer where it's supposed to be used.

    I went through two of these in a very short period of time and had to return both of them for an exchange on the first and then a refund on the second. The entire head and blades are made of plastic and do not last for long. In my case the plastic head itself broke on the first head after only approximately eight uses, and one of the plastic mounting pins for the blades broke on the second head after only two uses. I bought both at HD for my Ryobi 18v trimmer and they got only light use in a small suburban lawn. The problem is, the higher stress parts like the mounting pins the blades are mounted on need to be made of metal, not plastic. If while they're spinning the plastic blades hit anything solid, including the ground, what you're trimming around, etc, something will soon break, and it's almost impossible to use it as a trimmer without ever hitting anything.

      Ryobi does sell auto-feed string trimmer cartridges with their 18 volt trimmers, but they're probably worse than bump feed heads since it lets out a 1/4" of line every time you let off and spin back up the head.

    I been looking everywhere. And I tried these before they don’t last long trying to cut around bishes or close along the fence or house. But wanted to ask if you can do a video on the universal ones I been seeing say it works on all trimmers. It’s a real metal blade or there’s one I seen that has real sharp brissels or whatever lol. I’m trying to figure out how to instal one knowing the trimmer has the plastic thing you see that the dual blade clips on but somehow that needs to be removed somehow for the universal blades.

      Yeap! Thought may be he'd cover blade changing since i dont need to spend more money on the whole spool head. Blades themselves are cheaper. However, these blades you'd better not use them on fences or cement or any hard surfaces or boooooy i tell you what! They'll break off like a mofuka! A pair lasted me literally 3 minutes before i found out. Btw if you only use them for weeds and grass they'll hold up ok.

      The blades on these are not replaceable. They SELL replacement blades, but these are riveted to the plastic head. If you drill out the rivets on the head, you might be able to replace them with a nut/bolt, which would give you replaceable blades. Until the nut comes loose. Then you have a lawn shuriken. Ryobi's intention was that you'd just replace the whole cup/blade assembly at once.

    • @kiwidadygirl
      @kiwidadygirl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RedHeadKevin wrong. The unit rotates and the bladed pop out. Replacements slide rt on then you rotate it back and they are locked. It's simple as hell to do. You can Google. The replacement blades have a video showing how. If you could post video replies or even pictures here I'd show ya.

    That tip about the cement...stay away. Another TH-camr used it for edging and whittled the blades to a nubbin, right out of the box. His cost - $15 bucks. also, avoid dragging the blade cover along the sidewalk. It's incredible how abrasive cement and asphalt can be.

      With the head removed from the edger, hold the base of the head with one hand and turn the other end of the head with your other hand. It should pivot and expose the blade mounting points. In my experience it will pivot and allow changing of the blades only when the head is removed from the edger.

      Yes mine don't even seem to fit with the 36V unit I bought at same time from Bunnings (similar to US's Home Depot I think). Thanks for the comments I will return them never used. Waste of time as in grass the line lasts a long time, and Ryobi's simplified feed in system is inspired design which I love using on those rare times I need to load. I discovered using line trimmer for edging late in life, but retain my Chinese no-name petrol edger for tough work. I like that it is really digging down a slot 2inches below the surface, also easier to get straight lines. Maybe I can make a guidewheel for the Ryobi and licence the design to Ryobi, or any manufacturer I could adapt it to.

Oh, but then he only used it against a hard surface for a few seconds. I’ve got a couple hundred feet of brick edge it’s gonna have to cut and I see those blades snapping like a twig.

    • @TS-ev1bl
      @TS-ev1bl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience it's not the blades that break, it's the plastic pins the blades are mounted on that break. If a blade breaks it can be quickly and easily replaced, but if a mounting pin breaks the head is useless. They needed to make the critical parts like the mounting pins out of metal, not cheap plastic.
