    As a life long Abba-fan, I still can`t believe this is actually happening. Hearing those voices again, sounding amazing as always. And the fact that their approach to singing those harmonies is a little more loose only makes it better. They are older now, it doesn`t have to be just so. They are a little more laid back, maybe. And it`s okay. How can these ladies sound that good at that age? The lyrics are as brilliant as ever. Many layers one can find hiding in them. Beautiful.

    They were very clever to address the possible criticisms they might receive for such a daring comeback within the lyrics. As in, "Yes, we are older but listen to us!!" I made the same comment below on the Abba video itself, but I must say, I loved this reaction video as well - your reaction to the first song was pretty much how I reacted to both songs!
    ===
    I've listened to these two new songs a few times now. I get emotional every time. I loved Abba all those decades ago, back in my teens. Now, in my mid-50s, I find myself with tears in my eyes listening to these new ones now.
    It is wonderful.
    How is music able to do this? It is more that just music however, it is the flood of nostalgia that comes with it, and the feelings associated with another time in our lives, listening to something we loved at that time, and not expecting to ever be hit that way again. At least, that is my attempt to explain what I struggle to put into words.
    Thank you, Anni-Frid, Benny, Bjorn and Agnetha.

This songs give me my childhood, lot of memories. My parents has passed away. Now I'm alone without them. The music is amazing, somethimes like an elixir. The first one that got me when I listened on Spotify was “don’t shut me down” because it’s a little simpler (even if not even the simple songs with ABBA are too simple).
    Then I went to the videos and felt so geeky, crying, smiling, laughing, all at the same time when I listened to “I still have faith in you”. My favorite was still “don’t shut me down “ tho, but “Do I have it in me” has been growing on me ever since, and now I can’t stop listening to it! 😅
    I agree with what was said about the arrangements. They are so perfectly thought through. All the small things. The theme from “Do I have it in me” showing up over and over, in both lead vocals, backing vocals, guitars, whistles, strings aso. It gets the theme line to get literally stuck in your head before the song is over. I think those are two masterpieces and even if none of the rest are half as good, they’re still gonna be good enough.
    This has got me to smile for days now. It’s incredible how music can affect the day!
    Thank you ABBA for that, and really good job @Nina_Schofield analyzing the two songs, best analyze this far!!!

    When writing just changing one note bringing it forwards or back can change the entire phrase. The smallest of changes can turn an average song into something wonderful. Abba are masterful in their writing and they use really nice chords that we never hear much in music anymore. Abba always sounded like a music theatre/pop band to me. They never tried to fit into any format or music style that was popular at any given time. They were always true to themselves and allowed themselves to sound as they naturally were. It's such a relief they haven't tried to modernise Abba or attempt to sound 'current'. I am sure they could pull that off no problems but remaining true to themselves is the right choice.

    Hi Nina,
    Glad if you could just hop in and answer one question,please.
    I have been totally taken by surprise that young people born at around year 2000 (like you i presume) are so happy, elated and share the nostalgia and tears of joy with the older generation that actually listening to ABBA when they were around in real time. Its super duper, ofcourse, but what made Abba survive to this day to have such a large following 40 years since the last record , you think ?

    Dear Nina, i´m interested in your opinion about the quality of Agnetha and Frida's singing. For me it´s amazing that Agnetha in particular still has the same voice as before. Frida's voice has matured, but it's still magical. What do you think? Ist the singing natural or heavily autotuned? Thanks for your Videos! :-D

    • @ninaschofield
      @ninaschofield  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Absolutely natural - what’s interesting about the singing voice is it changes as we age and so now she has a richness and earthiness in her tone that has perhaps developed over recent years 🥰

    Anni-Frid (Frida) is the redhead and does the lead on the song. Agnetha, the blond does the lead on their other new song; "Don't Shut Me down". The guys are Björn and Benny.
    No autotune because they can actually Sing unlike modern pop.
