Tough prices on the raccoon. I sold to Groenewald's last year and think I will again this year. I still need the practice of skinning an fleshing. LOL so The raccoon for me will hopefully do better this year. Thanks for sharing. Have a BLESSED day and keep SHARING your PASSION
I sold my raccoons to groenwalds for the first time last year. I felt I did good with them. I was complimented on the too. That's worth more than a dollar amount to me.
@@tomkeltescheverythingoutdo2379 yes I have been considering it too because they paid more than Fur Harvesters Auction. Have to find out if shipping from central Ontario is cost effective?
Like you, I trap for fun and just being outdoors because as you so clearly show, it doesn't even cover gas to check traps every day or enough $$$ for a couple dozen new traps,,,,much less all the work of trap prep, setting, checking, skinning and fleshing. Thanks for sharing.
It sure would be nice to see such hard work and dedication pay off a little better. Hopefully prices will climb a bunch for you this year. Hopefully your channel will continue to grow as well!
I feel your pain buddy. I had 4 2x raccoons that sold on the last auction.Total for the 4 was $9:24. Really not worth the time. Time is getting close to do it all over again. Later and all the best.
I know most want a big payout ,which is great, but if you love what you're doing and keeping this important skill alive to pass on to next generations, sometimes the money isn't too important. But I hope the prices go up. Hoping for a great upcoming season for you, Coffey 👍
I have trapped a little off and on over the years. I really don't need the money. And at those prices, it's not even worth killing the animal for, let alone all the work involved. If I needed the extra money for me and my family, I'd shovel snow, mow lawns, clean gutters, or sell firewood and actually get paid for my labor. These fur prices are highway robbery.
Great video Coffey........pretty plain to see for sure. Not Good! I quit trapping most last season except for coyote and lynx. Looks like same again this year. Take care bud>
Hey brotha congrats on selling your furs. I'm not to comfortable with the online internal auctions I'll continue to sell to Grownwald I believe you would do better with them on the raccoons anyway no matter how there put up honestly, they give me 10.00 for my reds, did pretty good with them on my coyotes and cats. What I caught last season is still in the freezer so I'll see how if theres much difference the batch of Fur I sold them last year. Anyway Coffey have fun trapping this season.
It's not really worth the hard work and time you put in it . It covered your fuel cost to drive out and check the traps basically . Thanks for sharing !
@@CoffeyOutdoors Still a lot of work for free. A fella want's to make a few dollars at least. I hate the fact that I'm paying people to take my fur basically....
Wow! What are you going to do with all that money now that you are so wealthy?? Pretty damn depressing ain't it? There's a huge amount of work in fleshing raccoons! I try hard not to catch them, but seems like I still get a few every year. I think I escaped getting any last season if I recall. I still have last year's catch in my freezer, I'm thinking of tanning them and making something out of them. I'm gearing up and looking forward to this year's season.....but I can't figure out why? Prices look the same this year as last, right now. Our local fur buyer didn't even want to look at my raccoons a few years ago. He wasn't interested in skunk or raccoon at any price. Coyotes, cats, and muskrats are "OK" in price, but still low. Beaver...the castor is worth more than the pelt. Wolves here in Idaho are only worth about $100 on average, but the F4WM will pay $500 reimbursement on them, so that is what I'm targeting.....without much luck. Well, we trap because we are trappers, and I'll still do it, but it's sure hard to justify anymore. Good luck this season and pray the prices improve!
That doesn't amount to much for all the work that goes into it. Less than minimum wage I'd say. Do you think you could do better selling on the net yourself?
This is why I don't want to trap is because the cost of fuel to get to the field the care of the furs dickering with fur buyers isn't profitable to me. Each to their own thrills and a dead coyote is one that won't be eating Deer or other valued game and birds. I shoot Coyotes in the Utah state Coyote bounty program that pays $50 per dead coyote for the scalp and lower jaw. You get paid from the state of Utah without dealing with fur buyers or care of hides. My FoxPro called never fails me to get not less that 4 coyotes per day and up to 10 has been a good day at $50 per Coyote. Depending on the type of area hunted I can be using an AR 15 in 17 Remington to an AR 10 in 6 mm - 284 win and at times a Tikka T3 in 7 mm Rem mag for those long shots.
wow, this just amazes me at how low the prices are. fifty cents for a fur,,i just cant imagine it. you prolly spent more money on gas driving around to trap these animals that you got for the fur.
Wow that's a lot of work for so little return, bless you my friend. Take care and have a blessed weekend.
Yes it is but I love doing it. Thank you
This is a pretty cool slice of American economics. Thanks for being so thorough and open with your process.

I heard a rumor that Groenewalds don't want green raccoons this coming season, that might only be in the round so check with them ahead of time.

I will always love trapping but this is just crazy.
Same here brother
What you got for each pelt would be easier to understand if the grade/size was visible along with the price.
Understood. Thank you
Oh wow! I wouldnt be too happy either Dave! Geez
Yes mam
They ain't worth scraping Guess be a great tax write off!! Lol Wow glad I love the challenge ! I hate fleshing ! except for hides I keep !
Right now they sure aren’t
You will be happy with Greonewold, been selling furs to him for many years. Good thing trapping is just a hobby for me.😃
Thanks. Good thing I love to trap
Wow...hopefully the method change will benefit you when it comes to the raccoons!!

If I can't sell everything green I just don't want to do it
I like putting up fur. But not for those prices
Be glad you are not in Canada,we get deductions for royalties paid to the country of Canada that is slightly more than the commission.
dang i would hate that

Where they tumble your coyotes
O that's cool I never r sold to them before
Pretty disappointing buddy! If I sell anything this year I'll sell green fur, hope you have an amazing season buddy

I quit in the late '80s for obvious reasons. Check out "1970 furbearer harvest and pelt value - Wisconsin DNR"
