Sorry, but while the Secret Service would have certainly moved the president out of the room as shown, an equal number would have gunned down the shooter in a second.
yep. 2-3 agents would've either gunned him down or tackled him. USSS agents are the best pistol shots in the government. Would've been more believable if Booth had rigged it so the lights went out to make his escape more plausible.
I know, right? That's why I always laugh at this part. He would have been dogpiled immediately. And not just that. From my understanding, agents are trained to check hands and obstruct the view of an individual if they spot an object in the hands. Also, the President would never be exposed to an open crowd like that. But, it's a movie...
@geoff3103 The Secret Service was actually established three months after Lincoln's assassination, initially for its "investigative mission" against counterfeit currency. The agency did not assume its "protective mission" until after McKinley's assassination.
@@mikealvord55 They learned from their mistake. I have a question for the secret service buffs. @1:26, when doing a fast evac with a VIP, is there a guy who is a designated linebacker running interference on any possible person in the way? Or was that put in by the director for dramatic effect? I do like the shaky camera and perspective to show the chaotic moment of getting the president out.
@@ComedianMoGreenI knew someone like you would come along to this comment and say something like this and I was waiting for it LOL. If you look at the special features and behind the scenes transcripts of filmmaker Wolfgang Peterson's 1993 "In the line of Fire" film you will see that the actors, including Clint Eastwood and Rene Russo were advised trained and coached by members of United States secret service and were given full access to their training grounds at Quantico. In fact one of the technical advisors on the film was retired and legendary secret service agent Jerry Parr who famously pushed Ronald Reagan into the limousine during the attempt on his life by John Hinckley Jr. in March of 1981. So everything you saw in this scene was realistically how the secret service trains to evacuate and cover a president whether they follow their training or not in a real life event.
@@briansolonge6334You gotta account for the fact that this movie is from 1993. Ie their most recent reference point was the Reagan attempt in 81. @@florinivan6907 FairPoint I guess but you have to keep in mind that the mission statement of the United States secret service is still the same. A LAX performance due to Forgetting the past because of a lengthy time gap between assassination attempts is not an excuse at their level.
CHEATLE IS DUMB ON A GUN'S RANGE. THE SHOOTING DISTANCE WAS WITHIN HER PREVIEW AND SHOULD HAVE HAD AGENTS ON THE ROOF. EFFECTIVE RANGE OF AN AR-15: HOW FAR CAN IT SHOOT? So what is the typical effective range of an AR-15? It's often stated to be around 400 to 600 yards depending on the specific model and the conditions mentioned above. That's actually a ballpark estimate because real-world results can vary considerably. According to NATO standards, a bullet ceases to be lethal when its kinetic energy drops below 85 Joule. Crunching the numbers for a standard 55-grain bullet exiting an AR-15 barrel at about 3,200 feet per second, this equates to a maximum range of approximately 3,000 yards, or about 1.7 miles. For example, military documentation often gives the point target effective range of an M16, a military rifle similar to the AR-15, as roughly 600 yards (or 550 meters).

Rip Wolfgang Petersen. You were one hell of a director!
I have a feeling this clip is about to suddenly be 1000x more popular in the algorithm.
Like your wife, while you're home, smugly sniffing your poots.
This movie popped into my mind after yesterday's event in Pennsylvania.
Very surreal isn't it?
There was obviously a void to fill.
