The peace and calm that you hear in the lady's voice is amazing. She comes across as certain of herself, doesn't belittle the horse, uses directions which are clear to the horse and uses consistent words of praise to let her horse know he's doing well. The best way to be assertive in a dominant way, without being aggressive. All too often, people think dominance cannot take place without aggression. This is a grave misconception. Very nice job.
I love how soft your voice is when working with him. Too many trainers try to be so dramatic, yet you keep your relationship so close by being so sweet and respectful, yet firm. Love this!
What a companionship!. That's wonderful to see. To the spurs haters - get a grip, spurs are only bad and dangerous in the wrong hands (or on the wrong boots). This rider is good at what she does. If anyone has ever owned a racehorse that's raced and then brought back/reschooled for English riding then you'd appreciate how much work this woman has put into this horse. Good job!
My old horse got nicknamed Houdini. He had multiple latches on his stall door - first and highest, a simple hook, then a slide bolt, then a gravity slide bolt, then a padlock, and we barred in the top half of the door. After that he learned how to grab the door with his teeth and lift it off the rails or hinges. He also learned to pull a loose board off the side of his stall to let the goats next door come in to play with him.
I know nothing about horses, but I do know about people. It was awe inspiring the way she talks to the horse and how he responds to her... definitely a special connection there. It's as if he WANTS to please her and is SO attentive. She is so soft spoken with the horse. She is one gifted woman to be able to train like she does. I have seen horse trainers who use whips and yell...so much bad vibes. When you hear the term "Horse Whisperer" she is the amazing example of that. Absolutely sweet Thank you for posting this video. Aloha 'oe. ;-)
I can't believe such negative comments. I believe they are both wonderful, seeing the love and trust between them. I seen a video on horse abuse and killing that goes on in some rodeo's, it tore me up to learn and see how some people are so cruel and heartless. This lady here is wonderful and I thank her for sharing !
I loved watching this! Mother didn't let me ride a horse as a kid. Later, I would be afraid. It's every little girl's dream, yes? Horses are so easy to love. Thanks for sharing this dream sequence with me....
How can 498 people give THIS a thumbs down? Who are you people? There just is nothing here that's bad or negative. This woman obviously is treating the horse right and the horse obviously loves her. Why does anyone feel the need to be all negative?
Beautiful Jim Key is the smartest. He could spell and have a letter board where anyone could ask him questions with the owner not even present and he would spell out things. Trained by his owner, and veterinarian, the same person, Mr. Key.
I'm using my friend's youtube account, and was bummin around looking at horse videos, when I came across this. I might be wrong, but I think I recall you two boarding at our barn in Norco for a short while several years ago :) You had his barn stall painted with some gorgeous murels. Lukas is a sweetheart.
Olivia Barton Yeah, when I do that with my horse it usually helps her know she's doing it right. They deserve affection when they do well, it's not like they get much else out of it.
He is a thoroughbred. Color markings like that can be in many breeds. This horse is lovely and I always enjoy seeing positive training methods. Treats and positive verbal reinforcement. The horse really enjoys working with you now. Good job.
I love it how you can see that the horse is being trained properly by his muscles, yet they still take the time to learn him things like this! He looks so happy :D
This is a good example of how spurs are used to give clearer signals rather than hurting the horse! You can see with the way she is patient and kind with this horse that she has no intentions of harming him. They are rounded end spurs used to send him clearer signals and are useful for tricks like the spanish walk. I just love how patient she is with this horse!
This horse is very intelligent. And to all the people who say the horse has a weird trot it doesn't. It is the way the rider is asking the horse to she's asking him to pick his feet up high but not to high at the same time it takes a smart horse to process that in there minds. When they are in that kind of trot the rider tells the horse trough body language to not move his back this could cause the horse to have a stiff back. Also to the people who say Spurs are terrible are idiots it's not Spurs that are bad it's the way some people use them. In this Case there used when not needed but not aggressively.
This is a good smart horse u should realize that u don't have to be haters plus she said if u were listening he gets better every time u don't have to type bad things about it just someone to say the same thing if u an it got nothing nice to say don't say it at all duh they cant be perfect their trying to help to be a good smart horse and u just don't see that do u ??!!PS: NOBODY'S PERFECT
While I don't agree with "showing" horses, I just can't help but notice the trust he has with her. I've been around all sorts of animals and very few times have I come across one who is so trusting and shows so much love for his human companion.
Lol this trot is not a Spanish trot in any way, he dose not look lame it looks more like back problems this horse has probably from her bouncing on the horse
I really like the way you reward throughout his tricks a lot of the time I've found that people will use treats during training and then once the horse learns to do it they no longer get for it. he's beautiful as well very nice job training!
why do you think this movement is beautiful?? this is really horrible! don't speak about the rider it is awful as well, but the horse moves like he will collapse soon. NOT good back movement, he doesn't lift and moves his back legs at all, and the head wants to fall down... horrible
First of all, why don't you people get your information straight before you go saying negative things about this beautiful animal. Lukas is a old retired racehorse !! He blew two tendons in his front legs, and he was also abused and abandoned. All this lady is trying to do is show you how proud she is of her horse for being what he is today. Instead of being jealous, why can't anyone appreciate the beauty of this relationship between horse and human
I've seen things like this a million and one times but I must say I want that horse in my barn haha. She is so gentle with him. you can definitely tell he loves his mommy... or the treats
I'm confused why its called the worlds smartest horse. I mean, yes this horse knows a lot. Pretty cool. But like, me and my equine friend can do all this, + more. Without a bit and tack yet. (Liberty Horsemanship) I'm not out to brag. I'm just wondering why its stated as world's smartest horse, when I know several others (not just the angel in my life) that can do a lot more.... Is this horse in the records book or something? Its just what I'm rather confused about. Or is it a self proclaimed title? Just out of wonder.
+Femina Proletarius I take great care of my equine friends. I dont use shoes...or large amounts of metal on my equine friends... they only go in the stalls at night. (we have loads of bears and wolfs where I live) so when we are asleep. they get to chill out safely in there stall. (toys and food and stuff inside) and are let out at the crack of down (5 hours week days and maybe 8 occasionally on weekends) but when we sleep we dont know if a bear will cone running up like they done in the past. so for saftey they are stalled. (we keep guns around available just in case... dnr relased 30 something wolves 10 miles from my house....I dont know what they were thinking...)
Hoove_Beats_in_our_Hearts I get what you are saying. But when you say you don't shoe them that automatically makes me think you are saying people that shoe their horses are hurting/abusing them. In some cases they may be completely unnecessary for their hoof strength and structure, but from my experience shoes can be great for a horse. My horse wears shoes from lack of strength in his front hoof but that doesn't mean I am a bad owner in any way. But again I'm not sure if that's what you meant by the statement " I take great care of my equine friends. I don't use shoes."
Yes that may help but for long term that doesn't do anything. Plus I can not imagine jumping, riding, and keeping those "boots" on in the pasture. Either they would break, he would trip from jumping, or would be extremely uncomfortable for him to wear for the rest of this life. Shoes can be EXTREMELY beneficial for many horses. Not to mention that it can help a horse with lameness. So no the shoes do not hurt him, I have made a choice to have shoes put on after trying many products and having him barefoot. But none could keep him from pain. So I'm sorry but I'm not going to sit here and have someone tell me these "boots" would be safer and more effective for a horse in my situation that has extreme hoof problems. I will leave a link for more information. It would probably be wise to read the article before responding. Thanks. www.tractorsupply.com/know-how_Horse-Care_are-horse-shoes-always-good-for-horses-hooves
Hoove_Beats_in_our_Hearts Also I agree with you 100% on keeping your horse in a stall at night. It would be completely foolish to not have them in a stall because of the threat of the bears and wolves attacking them. I used to keep my horse in a stall 24/7 and he loved to be in his stall! He wouldn't even want to leave it! Of course he still got 2 hrs of riding a day as well as 4 hours of turn out time after school (Now he is turned out 24/7) But I get that most people don't like having their horse in a stall. In my opinion as long as the horse doesn't mind being in a stall and gets riding and turnout time each day then its fine!
Most horses as well as any domestic animal training is easily motivated by food. This isn't necessarily a good thing. On the contrary. I have seen many performances where treats are not used, but through a bond and trust, a horse will respond to commands. Sure, this horse is smart, (as are all given the chance) but he does tricks for food. I've seen better without 'treats'! No disrespect meant.
She actually rides well, The spurs I agree on, i use thumb spurs but thats because I ride a 16 almost 17 hand horse and my legs can't fully wrap around her so they just help give clear signals, They are just little nubs and i rarely use them, just when i need them
It lacks impulsion and forward energy as well as his head wobble. He isn't muscular enough to get his hind end underneath and truly trot. If she posted and asked forward energy and pushed him up into the bridle he would look waaaaaay better
I must give it to you, your horse is very intelligent and well-trained, but with the right training almost any horse is smart and capable enough to do that. He is a beautiful horse as well.
that is one pretty horse! don't listen to all the negative comments. they don't know what they are talking about. they couldn't even do what you do with your horse. they shouldn't be talking. :D
Guys, Guys, Guys.... The video is not perfect, no video ever is. However, the horse is beautiful and obviously very intelligent, and his owner must love and spend a large amount of time teaching him these things. Well, good on her... Hes certainly the smartest horse I've ever heard of!
It's not dressage...dressage is a horse in self carriage rounding through the back, hindquarters engaged....not a horse gently ambling along, trotting behind and practically walking up front. That said, the horse looks to be extremely happy and healthy and it is lovely to see such gentle and rewarding horsemanship.
I am not surprised by this at all. I work with intelligent cutting horses every day. They all have inherited an instinct to herd cattle. One of them has been to the chiropractor in the past and now has a habit of doing her exercises without being prompted. A couple of them pick up the stall pick with their teeth and pretend to clean, several of them know just when to move while you are cleaning. They have individual personalities, and they have feelings and habits. They are amazing creatures.
Very cute I'm not gonna say lots about what was going on in the video (like his trot and such) because I'm honestly not sure wether that is a good trot or not, I still have a lot to learn. But I love how you always reward him and give him lots of care. I think he has a good home which is nice!
What a beautiful Horse, reminds me of my formerly untrusting (mostly men but not me) mare, also an ex racer. She is 6 and showing signs of such great intelligence after 7 months on my little farm in Kentucky
The worm I do not believe my eyes almost have thought so fine, and not many horses would learn some cool tricks :) Of course, they need to train a horse, but very well treated and well trained :) It's so smart and confident in these tricks: D
Very smart horse as at 16 years he is still alive and being cared for. Some lose all value at race career end, which is an absolute tragedy. Well done Lukas
wow you and lukas are amazing. he is beautiful and i just love horses. thank you for saving him from the food factory. one question, why the spurs? i see and know you are not being cruel, just wondering... he is magnificant
Hes an amazing beautiful horse, but man that trot makes me want to cry, it looks so rough. Not light and airy as a dressage trot should be, but he looks like hes trained to his full potential and wonderfully trained at that. Beautiful Horse!
I think it's because most non-horse people know very little about them. All of these things are easy to teach if you have a patient person I think the cool thing about this video is watching her kindness with this gelding. So often race horses get into abusive situations post race career and it's really nice to see one that has someone who loves him and obviously spends a ton of time just playing games with him....that is all 95% of that stuff is, just a horse playing games with his owner.
Great success on the ground! At liberty and only with positive reinforcement. I'm just curious why you need bits and spurs to control the horse when riding? Is it impossible to teach all the things you want him to do under saddle without this tack? or with softer tack like just legs (no spurs) and some kind of sidepull or neck rope to give the horse more freedom and less aversive stimuli and discomfort?
The peace and calm that you hear in the lady's voice is amazing. She comes across as certain of herself, doesn't belittle the horse, uses directions which are clear to the horse and uses consistent words of praise to let her horse know he's doing well. What a beautiful display of the respect between horse and owner. Thank you for sharing! Truely a wonderful horse! :)

I think he spent too much time in a stall.
i have the utmost respect and admiration for the people who take the time to work with these former race horses.
He's such a sweetheart :3 Amazing job, and absolutely gorgeous by the way!
Wow, not only intelligent but also very well-trained!! And I can see that the owner has spent a lot of time with him, and they have a great bond!!
I loved it! You can tell that they have such an unbreakable connection.

I love that story and only found out about Jim Keys a year ago...
Maybe in a couple of years he will be able to write his name on a chalkboard.
I know she is trying to sound calm in her voice but it's kinda annoying how she is always like "good good good good awwww good awww good good boy aww"
well she gust saying god boy you do that to a dog too so what's the problem?
Olivia Barton Yeah, when I do that with my horse it usually helps her know she's doing it right. They deserve affection when they do well, it's not like they get much else out of it.
I was whatching this my girlfriend taught that i whatch por*
Apparently, the horse likes it.
He is a thoroughbred. Color markings like that can be in many breeds.
This horse is lovely and I always enjoy seeing positive training methods. Treats and positive verbal reinforcement. The horse really enjoys working with you now. Good job.
The amount of people who don't know basic dressage movements and assume he's lame is hilarious. 😂😂
+Emily Cooper haha you're so right! they be like: he's lame. ya do it better yourself lol
Ikr
IKR!!!
Please excuse my rude comment!! I loved your video about Lukas's story!! Thank you sooooo much for taking in a rescue horse!!!
You've got him strung out on those treats. (He's always reaching for you.)
That is some very good training and horsemanship. The best I have seen this far
The horse is beautiful, and she trained him really well, but she's a better trainer than she is a rider.
this is so true. She didn't even post her trot.
elizabeth mikiciuk Please don't take this the wrong way but She didn't post because she was doing Dressage.
Yeah I kinda have to agree😁
Yeah I kinda have to agree😁
Omg my comment got so many 1+ lol
I love it how you can see that the horse is being trained properly by his muscles, yet they still take the time to learn him things like this! He looks so happy :D
she isn't doing light trotting in the beginning, which really harms the horse
He is so sweet. And a nice relaxed trot, with a lot of movement in his back :)
Geldings sometimes drop when they are relaxed, it's normal.
This is a good example of how spurs are used to give clearer signals rather than hurting the horse! He's very lucky to have someone like you working with him. You're very patient.
is her riding terrible or is it just me seeing things
Elle R'hur she looks like a beginner
Terrible posture and is she supposed to be posting?
@@kkdoc7864 she's sitting the trot.. pretty normal in higher dressage.

Wow this horse is sooooo lucky to have such a nurturing owner
this is not the SMARTESThorse in the world ¬¬
It's her boyfriend bud.
Beautiful Jim Key was the smartest horse in the late 1800s
First of all, why don't you people get your information straight before you go saying negative things about this beautiful animal. Lukas is a old retired racehorse !! He blew two tendons in his front legs, and he was also abused and abandoned. All this lady is trying to do is show you how proud she is of her horse for being what he is today. Instead of being jealous, why can't anyone appreciate the beauty of this relationship between horse and human
She's feeding him treats so his only doing it to get the treat some horse can do better without the treat
I've seen things like this a million and one times but I must say I want that horse in my barn haha. She is so gentle with him. you can definitely tell he loves his mommy... or the treats

hes lovely and its obvious they have respect for one another - beautifully handelled :)
There is not supposed to be a head Bob in a trot. He's lame
You're lame.
greenemonster you do know that she is about a medical condition with the Huff or leg🐎
belinda messer What the hell you know about head bob ? You done it before ? ;)))))
It's called a Spanish trot.
Basic Dressage... 😂
aww hes beautiful well done. ignore everyone he dosn't look lazy, he looks obedient and relaxed, well trained...he clearly loves you very much!!! :)

Heels down!!!!!!!!!!!
Horses!!! The most beautiful and Noble animals in the world....
Well behaved horse but she dosent ride good and using spurs is crul and painful for a horse
She actually rides well, The spurs I agree on, i use thumb spurs but thats because I ride a 16 almost 17 hand horse and my legs can't fully wrap around her so they just help give clear signals, They are just little nubs and i rarely use them, just when i need them
Horsecrazygirl 102 she uses the spurs correctly so it's not painfull
This is so cool! His personality reminds me of my first horse's. :) Lukas looks very happy and it's obvious that you love him!
the horse is not lame
i believe speaking to animals , along with training and a good diet adds to their intelligence, great video!
The trot was like a very werid looking
Flicka Davis yeah
+Flicka Davis It's something between walk and trot. :D
+Flicka Davis no thats how a trot should look like in english riding. the only wierd thing is that he isin't keeping his head still
It lacks impulsion and forward energy as well as his head wobble. He isn't muscular enough to get his hind end underneath and truly trot. If she posted and asked forward energy and pushed him up into the bridle he would look waaaaaay better
+Kenzie Shelley He is very fit. Have your horse do that trot and see how it moves it's head. Its a very well collected trot. THe horse is perfect
I must give it to you, your horse is very intelligent and well-trained, but with the right training almost any horse is smart and capable enough to do that. He is a beautiful horse as well.
Wow! Your are doing wonders for him! He is such a gorgeous horse!
Thorughbreds are my most favorite breeds because their bodies are built for speed and he is a wonderful representation of it! Chestnuts rock!
i want more people to be like you, Take care , love , with all your heart
They have such a cool relationship! This woman possesses a gentleness that almost all equestrians lack!
that is one pretty horse! don't listen to all the negative comments. they don't know what they are talking about. they couldn't even do what you do with your horse. they shouldn't be talking. :D
LOL!!! Aw...love love love it!! I never seen a horse do that before :) He is very beautiful
This made my day! he is soo cute and in good shape for a 16 year old!
Guys, Guys, Guys....
The video is not perfect, no video ever is. However, the horse is beautiful and obviously very intelligent, and his owner must love and spend a large amount of time teaching him these things. Well, good on her... Hes certainly the smartest horse I've ever heard of!

The worm I do not believe my eyes almost have thought so fine, and not many horses would learn some cool tricks :) Of course, they need to train a horse, but very well treated and well trained :) It's so smart and confident in these tricks: D
so nice to finally see a thoroughbred without his lovely mane chopped off or pulled
And here is the most pampered horse in the world.
That horse is 100% gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very smart horse as at 16 years he is still alive and being cared for.
Some lose all value at race career end, which is an absolute tragedy.
Well done Lukas
you are so lucky to have this amazing horse
beutiful horse, and a very lovley friendship between you and him
i love this kind of stuff... the best is doing it with ur horse...
not only is he brilliant, he BEAUTIFUL
He is beautiful........and doesn't his trot just look divine to ride! cute!!!!
his back legs are so smooth, like they're gliding. amazing horse
wow you and lukas are amazing. he is beautiful and i just love horses. thank you for saving him from the food factory. one question, why the spurs? i see and know you are not being cruel, just wondering... he is magnificant
You are truely wonderfull with your animals !!!
I was doing the dishes when this came on. All I heard was the Audio... If you just listen to the audio... this is a very different video.
He's so adorable!
Hes an amazing beautiful horse, but man that trot makes me want to cry, it looks so rough. Not light and airy as a dressage trot should be, but he looks like hes trained to his full potential and wonderfully trained at that. Beautiful Horse!
omg! your horse is so amasing and cute
I wonder how she got him to do all of this. This is my first time seeing this and I admire her already and for not using any wips or anything.
Beautiful horse, wonderful animal!
He's an amazing horse! Gorgeous !
Prove it you can! Could you film it once?
Lukas is such a beauty
I love this, he's soo cute and she's amazing with him, they are soo cute together. And the horse is gorgeous!!!!
wow he understands every word he says. Its like teaching a person :O
a beautiful animal. absolutely gorgeous
Its a lovley horse, and i think he knows some great tricks well done Lukas and Karen Murdock(: x
y are most of these comments so rude it is just an adorable horse nothing else and the lady is just talking calmly to the horse like ur meant to
