Datsyuk was truly something special. So glad to appreciate his skill while he was still in the league, one of a kind.
First time I learned about Datsyuk was at Bruins game in Boston. No 13 kept scoring and always had the puck. I leaned over and asked a red wings fan sitting in the garden, who the hell is number 13, he is killing us. Fan told me Pavel Datsyuk. He was an amazing player and one of my favorite all time.

In what world is Datsyuk underrated? The guy won 2 Stanley Cups, 4 Lady Byngs and 3 Selkes amongst countless other awards and achievements. He’s first ballot HOF. No question.

I remember the Russian 5 well but dont think any of them compare to. The magic man#13 his skills were just unmatched.
I am 36, born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. yes the Russian 5 was amazing to watching and their skill level was unmatched but Even Fedorov could not out skill Paval. I am sorry.

There's a ton of players that BEAT others in plays, but no one makes other players look as silly as Datsyuk does, and despite undressing other players, he isn't unsportsmanlike about it. While he has god-like abilities, imagine how much it helps that the person who defends against him in everyday practice is Nik Lidstrom.
Not only was he a great offensive player, but he was an extremely good two way player and probably the best defensive center in the league for at least 5 years

Pavel, just unbelievable. Long time Wing fan, went to the Cup Parade in 2008 and ran into him later that night in Royal Oak where we lived.
Datsyuk is one of the top 3 two way players of all time. His dangles are disgusting too. Man could do it all.

@@mr.devil9577 he was the most unselfish player to play. The reason he never scored that many because he would set up so many goals. He was pass over shot many times. Also he had only a few seasons where he played more than 80 games.
Looking at some of these old shootout highlights gives me back memories. Especially how many Datsyuk has
Malik’s goal was my first nhl game, I was 8 years old and all these years later it is still one of my favorite moments ever. I remember running into a bunch of fans on the train home who had left early because the shout-out was going too long, they seemed to regret their decision
Datsyuk wrote the book on beautiful shootout and 'during game' shootout goals. Detroit had a helluva player for a long time.

That's why his goals were so revered. I found it funny as Hell to watch his after goal celebrations.
The most impressive goals for me are Datsyuk ‘06 (4:35) and Kane (2:48). What separates those two is where the goalies ended up... both sliding out of their crease, looking back, helplessly.
Just gonna say, the difference between the Datsyuk goal against Niemi and the goal against Vokoun is at least Niemi got a tiny piece of the puck. Not enough to stop the goal, but that's closer than Vokoun got, haha.
I got shievers when datsyk game in that angle behind goalie... his puck handling and skating was just majestic..
That Kane goal was so illegal, not even funny. Stopping forward motion of puck. These highlights are kinda sad. Datsyuk did it all the time.
@@CraziiDago bruh. No. Here's the rule: The designated shooter must keep the puck moving forward at all times until releasing it at the net. However, when stickhandling and trying to deke the goalie a player may move the puck sideways and backwards while in possession.
Kane’s goal is so lame. It’s like cheating but isn’t. They need minimum speed requirements.
Datsyuk is just on a whole other level!

I was in high school when Malik scored that goal. All my friends and I talked about it for weeks. And I still think about it every time a game goes to a shootout.

I literally thought that each goal should be number one from ten to one but was thrilled with each one and am comfortable with the ranking. If there is a gun to my head and I have to pick the greatest hockey wizard of all time, it is going to be Kucherov.
Datsyuk, The only guy to deke a goalie literally completely out of the net. That goal should be number one. Malik should be number two
Those are the top 2, no question about it though. You can argue which is 1, and which is 2, but as long as they’re both up there, you’re doing good.
Randy Randerson circumstances of the Malik goal are what make it number 1.
#1 is so nostalgic for most of us but lets be real... any decent rep player can do that nowadays lol

I thought that was a preseason game...
It's also #1 because I'm pretty sure it was the like 14th round of the shootout or something... So not just the style but also the circumstances it's under and the fact that nobody would have guessed Malik had those smooth hands make it #1 for me.
Yeah, but he's your fifteenth shooter, a 6'6 defenseman in 2005, it's the first year of shootouts in the NHL, and he does this. You can't take this away from number one.

dude it was his rookie season which was *unbelievably* hyped up to uber extents and it was against his childhood team and he made the leg kick popular with this. definitely deserves a spot. and dont act like the water bottle flying off doesnt make it 10x better...

Got to see a stars game that went to shootout against the redwings and seeing Robero and Datsuk both score ridiculous goals in the shootout. So happy to see both in the top 10 here.

I remember being a kid and seeing the one by Grabovski. That ended up being my go to move anytime I had a shootout or penalty shot opportunity in Ice and roller hockey.

@@Quellebreo373 tbh I'm not 100% on why they took it out but it happened somewhat recently. I think it was because while spinning, the skater stops going forward at some point.
Isaac Viereck Sports I looked up the rule, so originally you were just able to spin around with the puck and it could move with you. Then they changed it so the spin o rama in this video was legal. After they just completely removed it. Imo the type of spin o rama in this should be legal because puck didn’t change direction.

@@ktowniecity7269 He wasn't the first to do that move though. He got credit for it because he is an all-star player but Daugaviņš scored like that vs Lundqvist and everyone just called it a fluke. Sick move, nonetheless and he was able to recreate it two more times.

I saw The Magician at a Kings /Wings game in LA.
Instead of flipping the puck to the ref in the circle, he flipped it toward center ice, almost as high as the scoreboard. He skated up and caught it on his stick like it was nothing, and then flipped to the ref.
Left my friend and I wondering if we'd just really seen that happen.
