Holy crap, this really works! Emptied my snowmobile tank with a much smaller diameter hose. Took a few ‘pulls’ but it did finally start flowing! Thanks, saved me pulling the tank off.
The cool thing about siphons I found is keeping it primed. Like I have 4 rain barrels (50 gallons each) by my downspout at my barn. Rather than cutting a hole in the bottom of the barrels to connect them together, I put in a hose from the barrel with the downspout into each of the other 3 barrels. As long as both ends of the hose is under water, the water level will be even across all 4 barrels. When it rains and more water goes into the one barrel, the siphons will automatically even out the water level across all 4 (or more if you want).
I recently discovered that method too, it's very convenient. To prime the tube I followed another video that filled an inverted hose with water (U shape), plugged the ends, put those into each barrel (containing some water), let the plugs dissolve; balanced Syphon commensed. However, the method shown here looks like the simplest; will try this in future 👍.
What about in really heavy rains would the flow rate between the barrels be enough to stop overflow? Imagine if your downspout is going into only one of the 4 barrels.
@barnabyvonrudal1 Well, when the barrels are not full, there is a buffer zone. So the one barrel can fill to the top, and I have 3 siphon leading out of it to the other 3 barrels. I find that even with a slight rain, all 4 barrels fill completely. So the siphon must almost keep up unless there is a huge rainstorm. Then, I use a 4th sipon to empty these barrels into a 5th barrel, that I then move with a front loader on my tractor to where I need the water. The overflow just dumps to the ground where the downspout used to go anyway before the barrels.
@@MrT------5743 sounds like a cool setup. Also sounds like you could use a bigger storage like a tank. I've only got a tiny space (on a slope - which could be handy if your water is high up) but am looking to get some barrels setup around the garden to make watering easier.
wow ! i am 67 and just learning this now ?!?!?!?!?!?!? you are my new, all-time best buddy ! p.s. tried it immediately with the kitchen sink and a bucket. works best if you start with the hose almost completely submerged but dang ... it works ! looking forward to my first real-life use of this technique. thank you !
I call it fiscally responsible. Not like that fellow who left behind BILLION$ in military equipment in a certain country named Afghanistan. Imagine the fuel alone that was abandoned there. 😮
Thank you for this. We bought a house 4 1/2 years ago. There were 2 food grade barrels full of water left by the previous owner with no spigot for drainage. There is no way I was going to use the water in them for emergencies when I had no idea how old it was when we bought the house. I couldn't move them, so they just sat there. Now, I hope I can drain them. I don't know if the water would even be safe to use on my garden, no matter how clean it looks.
You just saved my whole greenhouse garden from drought and wind burn. Thank you for simple video but you've actually saved my wallet and saved me from dealing with annoying creepy neighbor for help and frustration. #Thanks for this video! #NewSubHere #Keepupthegreatwork
Dude you are a genius. Had to comment. I was trying to syphon out some alcohol out the drum and I keep sucking but it wasn't working and I saw your video. Thank you so much!!!!
Thanks. It simply worked. My wife insisted that she won't allow me suck on a hose for petrol and I headed to TH-cam. You just saved us a night of arguments. 😂
Wish I had seen your video years ago. Used to start siphoning water (with leaves, bugs, critters and yuck) off my boat cover the old fashioned way-by sucking on the hose. Never again! Thank you!!!
I was thinking about taking out the plunger/piston of a syringe and putting it into the end of a hose, submerging the other end of the hose in the liquid I want to siphon, then pulling out the plunger/piston. This video provides a much simpler solution for which I'm thankful.
Just want to say I enjoyed this video. I was wondering if that would work and I googled it. Your video was the 1st thing that came up. Short, sweet, and to the point and honestly entertaining. I appreciate you, sir. Thank you
Thanks a lot man. I have been having all waste water in my apartment building come up through my bathtub. I've spend hours on hours using a bucked to drain the tub. It's overflowing into my apartment so I'm going to use the cheapo shower head that connected to my spicket to syphen it all down my toilet and then clog the tub up so hard the waste water in my building finds a brand new path of weakest resistance.
Great advice! I bought a spigot online but only then realized I would have to install it from both sides which would mean dumping all that precious water. This is much better. I love physics even when I can’t understand it.
Ha, I’ve done this for years, as a plumber I grew to understand physics of water, I’m in upper management for a large maintenance organization and I had a plumber who had to empty a tank, so I still love hands on, so he needed to empty a large tank, the kid……anyone under 40 in my world, lol, went to grab a pump, I na, well use a hose. “F U , I’m not sucking on that, he left to gather all the stuff with the pump, I just grabbed the hose and did exact same thing, and it was draining when the kid showed back up. He thought I sucked on it, I explained how it was done. Well, he freaked right out, couldn’t imagine something so brilliant and easy, explained and he thinks I’m a genius, well, secrets out now I guess, but that’s why the real estate between our ears in worth more as we age. Awesome video.
1:25 and my life is changed! Mind blown. My frustration with myself for not thinking of this has fortunately been overcome by the prospect of using the tip! I promise I won't steal anyone's gas, lol!
Some bastard on another TH-cam video gave me the bright idea of putting weeds with seeds that might germinate in mulch in water to make fertiliser. Filled a spare otto bin with it. Said video did not mention the horrific smell. I cannot overstate how much I appreciate this video for helping me get my gross stuff out of the container and down the drain.
ahhahah watching this as of July 2020 and thanks dude needed to know how to use this method for my Turtle and Fish tank... can't stop laughing. YOu being serious but yet cracking jokes!! Liked and Subscribed dude be safe in these times!!
I'm going to try this with my fish tanks. I have tiny baby fish, and have sucked them up by mistake with my aquarium vacuum hose, while cleaning the tanks. Thanks for clearing up the myth that I would have to actually suck on it to get the draw. I would hate to potentially get fish poop water in my mouth....ew...
You’re welcome! And it fits nicely with the plumbing mantra I was taught: “$hit runs downhill, payday’s Friday, and don’t chew your fingernails” Cheers!
I have a small kitchen and shitty kitchen sink and sometimes after I've had people over, there's a big pile of dishes that doesn't fit in the sink but needs to be soaked. For that reason, I have a tote, I set it on the counter next to the sink, put dishes in it and run my sprayer over to fill up the tote and soak all the dishes in it. Then, when they're done soaking, I would reach in, pull out the dishes, wash them dry them and put them away, and when I'm done, I've got a big tote of water that would be hard to lift and might even fall apart if I tried to move it. So instead of that, I just have a 3-4 foot segment of hose and do just like the video and siphon out all the dishwater into the sink. Thankfully, I now have a dishwasher, but at the time, that tote basically trippled my sink capacity. A little ingenuity can be a lifesaver when you're broke.
Dry, wry humour along with bloody good advice. Who could ask for more? Thank you Zack - you saved me some cash on a fancy syphon sucker thingy.
Glad to hear it!!
Its called a pump
Holy crap, this really works! Emptied my snowmobile tank with a much smaller diameter hose. Took a few ‘pulls’ but it did finally start flowing!
Thanks, saved me pulling the tank off.
Same, I gotta get it up and running.

Dude... You just took my barrel game to a whole nother level!
Thanks brother, still very handy 8 years later, and very funny 🤣🤣👍🏼
😂😂😂 I wish all how-to videos were this good! Brief, to the point, and with a sense of humor. I shall go forth and siphon! ☝🏻
Wish I knew that before I sucked on my salt water aquarium tank hose
lol
same reason im here
Lmfao
Literally same reason mine is 25ft though
Lmao

My hero! Lol. Selling a car to a wreckers but want the full tank of gas for my mower cos I'm cheap like that.
You mean smart like that
I call it fiscally responsible. Not like that fellow who left behind BILLION$ in military equipment in a certain country named Afghanistan. Imagine the fuel alone that was abandoned there. 😮
This has been really helpful when it comes to saving gas money, especially in todays economic climate. Thanks again!
WTF hahaha
Straight to the point tutorial. Works as advertised..
After 50+ years of life, I never knew this. I'm now ready to go forth and use this power for good.
Be Careful
I tried on my own, didn't work. Came here and watched your video, tried again and it worked! Thanks man ;)
Salut

One of the best videos I've seen. Straight into the point. Thanks
How did I not hear about this all through my life 😱😱huge thanks for this other worldly simple and yet amazing tip ❤
Dude you are a genius. Had to comment. I was trying to syphon out some alcohol out the drum and I keep sucking but it wasn't working and I saw your video.
Thank you so much!!!!
Can you suck my hose for some breast milk?
Hey Mark, sorry I couldn’t get it to you quicker. I tried 😆
@@ZackOfAllTradesYes you did. And thank you. Don’t worry about me, the doctor said this infection will clear up in another year or two.
Love it how you pretend you can't tip over the barrel. Great and funny video. Thanks buddy.

I found this method very meaningful and relevant. It is true! 100% Thank you!
Just want to say I enjoyed this video. I was wondering if that would work and I googled it. Your video was the 1st thing that came up. Short, sweet, and to the point and honestly entertaining. I appreciate you, sir. Thank you
Thank you so much there was not one single person in my family that could stop in until now. Now I’m the only one.
Thanks a lot man. I have been having all waste water in my apartment building come up through my bathtub. I've spend hours on hours using a bucked to drain the tub. Jesus how did you start showering? how'd that happen? what state or country you from? so many questions....hope you got this resolved bud
DAMMIT called me out with the pancake syrup! Thanks for sharing!
Great advice! I bought a spigot online but only then realized I would have to install it from both sides which would mean dumping all that precious water. This is much better. I love physics even when I can’t understand it.
Thanks for the tip! (Love your sense of humor too :)
This was hilarious and exactly what I needed! Fish tank is super cloudy from sand I thought was rinsed well
perfect video. short and easy explained thank you
Have to drain our filthy pool we didn't winterize to clean it! Worked perfect! Thanks so much!
Thank you!!! I live on an off grid farm and I was taking water into my lungs daily. I feel like a moron for not doing this sooner
Well I’m glad to hear that I may have saved you from pneumonia 👍

I really like how this guy talks
I’m wandering where he’s buying the 55 gallons of syrup, pancake batter, and/or prune juice from.
Got yourself a subscriber now. This saved me time and money. Thank you sir

Works perfectly. With longer hoses make sure it’s almost completely filled, and cap one end. Same process after
im using it to filter out my first fish tank!!! thank you for reminding me how to siphon!
The is the best video ever compared from hundreds of other videos. Very direct!
you saved my friend from nearly sucking up turtle water, very useful information thank you!
Great idea, me for about 65 years too late. Growing up I got plenty of mouthfuls of gas for the lawnmower.
Love the ending, I’ll be sure to use my newfound power for good! LOL
The smirk at the end lets me know he would approve of the redistribution of people's gas.
Now THIS is impressive! Thanks bro. Wishing you all the best!
Fast, simple, snarky. Perfect. Ty. Subscribed.

That was freaking awesome. I have to put a new fuel pump in my truck and I need to siphon the gas out. I didn't want to get a mouthful of 89 octane.
Nicely done!
I had forgotten how to do this but looked it up here....extra good 😂 laughs.... bonus!!
33 years old and I learned this today Lolo
I'm 34.. siphon always meant sucking lol. or blowing pressure into the liquid so that its forced back out. will have to try this.
Thanks so much for sharing! Gonna use this technique and I love your sense of humour. Made me smile :D
Thank you so much. Worked like a Lucky Charm
OMG.... I am 50 and just learned this ... im going to try it out on my little pool! take out all the pollen
All I needed to do was learn how to siphon But Bro, this is hilarious🤣

Hahaha love the, "Not for stealing other people's gas" line.
Humour at the end was awesome!!!
I enjoyed this video way more than I should've 😂
That’s great but will that work on a full length hose? 25-50 ft hose?
This was helpful AND was hilarious. Thanks!

I came here to find a video on how to professionally syphon like you. The ending was fucking hilarious!
Lol glad you enjoyed it!
I should have known this but didn't. Thanks!
