The key to this is getting all the air out of the hose and making sure it is completely full of water before blocking the end and pulling it out. I had to try about 6 times. Push the hose right down and shake it around a bit to get all the bubbles out. When it stays down easily and doesn’t want to float, it is full of water. Once I did this it worked a treat! Thanks so much. Managed to change the water in my ice bath 👌
I tried. The hose needs not be wholly filled with water or liquid. (It is a little hard to fill up the hose.) The key is that the output end of the hose must be closed up fully with your thumb, and when the output end is pulled down, the water level inside the hose at this end must always be lower than the liquid level inside the container. For this reason, if all the liquid inside the container is to be fully siphoned out, the length of the hose must be at least (double the height of the container + the length of hose with air).

Cheeks were touching, spots in front of my eyes - about had an embolism (no jokes please🤣) until my neighbor showed me your trick. Pushed the hose all the way into the mattress, thumb over end, and pulled the hose into the bathroom and into the tub. The cool thing about siphons I found is keeping it primed. Like I have 4 rain barrels (50 gallons each) by my downspout at my barn. Rather than cutting a hole in the bottom of the barrels to connect them together, I put in a hose from the barrel with the downspout into each of the other 3 barrels. As long as both ends of the hose is under water, the water level will be even across all 4 barrels. When it rains and more water goes into the one barrel, the siphons will automatically even out the water level across all 4 (or more if you want).
I recently discovered that method too, it's very convenient. To prime the tube I followed another video that filled an inverted hose with water (U shape), plugged the ends, put those into each barrel (containing some water), let the plugs dissolve; balanced Syphon commensed. However, the method shown here looks like the simplest; will try this in future 👍.
What about in really heavy rains would the flow rate between the barrels be enough to stop overflow? Imagine if your downspout is going into only one of the 4 barrels.
@barnabyvonrudal1 Well, when the barrels are not full, there is a buffer zone. So the one barrel can fill to the top, and I have 3 siphon leading out of it to the other 3 barrels. I find that even with a slight rain, all 4 barrels fill completely. So the siphon must almost keep up unless there is a huge rainstorm. Then, I use a 4th sipon to empty these barrels into a 5th barrel, that I then move with a front loader on my tractor to where I need the water. The overflow just dumps to the ground where the downspout used to go anyway before the barrels.
@@MrT------5743 sounds like a cool setup. Also sounds like you could use a bigger storage like a tank. I've only got a tiny space (on a slope - which could be handy if your water is high up) but am looking to get some barrels setup around the garden to make watering easier.

Thanks a lot man. I have been having all waste water in my apartment building come up through my bathtub. I've spend hours on hours using a bucked to drain the tub. It's overflowing into my apartment so I'm going to use the cheapo shower head that connected to my spicket to syphen it all down my toilet and then clog the tub up so hard the waste water in my building finds a brand new path of weakest resistance.

I have a small kitchen and shitty kitchen sink and sometimes after I've had people over, there's a big pile of dishes that doesn't fit in the sink but needs to be soaked. For that reason, I have a tote, I set it on the counter next to the sink, put dishes in it and run my sprayer over to fill up the tote and soak all the dishes in it. Then, when they're done soaking, I would reach in, pull out the dishes, wash them dry them and put them away, and when I'm done, I've got a big tote of water that would be hard to lift and might even fall apart if I tried to move it. So instead of that, I just have a 3-4 foot segment of hose and do just like the video and siphon out all the dishwater into the sink. Thankfully, I now have a dishwasher, but at the time, that tote basically trippled my sink capacity. A little ingenuity can be a lifesaver when you're broke.
I was today years old when I learned this, how did I make it to 45 years old and never knew this basic physics trick? This seriously needs to be taught in school
Alright, since youtube has literally been begging me to watch this video, I'll do it. Weeks on end it's on the home page, so congratulations, your paid sponsorship is working, OP.
I am doing this routinely since many years (emptying water containers around the house). There is one problem, however, as this is shown - the hose is too short: Then the water level in the container comes down the level of the outlet this will stop working and you may only get out about half of what originally was a full container. Therefore, I always use a hose that has a length that is about four times the height of the container. This way I can also lead the water into a direction and distance away from the house.
One of my coworker did was after keeping the syphon in, cover your mouth over the opening of the tank without any space for air around the pipe, blocking it in. Now blow air, so pressure buildup pushes water through the only opening ( the pipe). Later do as he says to continue its flow

I’m wandering where he’s buying the 55 gallons of syrup, pancake batter, and/or prune juice from.
Im a Romanian,go figure what im going to do now. But really, thank you sir for this great advice!
DAMMIT called me out with the pancake syrup! Thanks for sharing!
The smirk sent me. He's really proud of that last joke
ahhahah watching this as of July 2020 and thanks dude needed to know how to use this method for my Turtle and Fish tank... can't stop laughing. YOu being serious but yet cracking jokes!!
Liked and Subscribed dude be safe in these times!!
You write like a schoolboy
But sucking it's is my favourite part.
I needed to know this years ago. It will still be helpful. Thank you.
Holy shit so awesome, best video ever
I used to siphon by sucking, but just before you did it in the video, the idea hit me. Who else?

When does the video end?
Alright, since youtube has literally been begging me to watch this video, I'll do it. Weeks on end it's on the home page, so congratulations, your paid sponsorship is working, OP.
Now I can go steal gas!! 🤣🤣
Quick to the point and humorous, thanks
He should have tried to dump it the 4th direction
Love it how you pretend you can't tip over the barrel. Great and funny video. Thanks buddy.
I thought it was human remains
Gotta wait a while for them to liquify first

*"Even your local dad doesnt know this technique, CLICK TO KNOW MORE"*
0:15 *FAKE PUSH! He’s pushing across, not up, as required.*
Got yourself a subscriber now. This saved me time and money. Thank you sir
The smirk at the end lets me know he would approve of the redistribution of people's gas.
That's clever, and absolutely sound physics. Great video.
How did I not hear about this all through my life 😱😱huge thanks for this other worldly simple and yet amazing tip ❤
Have to drain our filthy pool we didn't winterize to clean it! Worked perfect! Thanks so much!
Hahaha love the, "Not for stealing other people's gas" line.
Works perfectly. With longer hoses make sure it’s almost completely filled, and cap one end. Same process after
Very nice video! A good use of common sense and a little science! I’m “finna” hit that subscribe button!
Thank you so much there was not one single person in my family that could stop in until now. Now I’m the only one.
One of my coworker did was after keeping the syphon in, cover your mouth over the opening of the tank without any space for air around the pipe, blocking it in. Now blow air, so pressure buildup pushes water through the only opening ( the pipe). Later do as he says to continue its flow
I feel so stupid and yet I’m SO HAPPY!
YOU DESERVE A REWARD!
I used this trick to siphon the thoughts out of my mind. 😅
The dad levels in this video are insane
That lil smirk at gives me the idea he wants us to steal gas
Great idea, me for about 65 years too late. Growing up I got plenty of mouthfuls of gas for the lawnmower.
These are the gems left from TH-cam’s prime period.
As i look over the wasteland of reactionvideos and messy-haired teenagers with unbearable voices, speaking in an even more unbearable accent, taking as long as they possibly can to say something very, very, simple..
I can only dream and reminisce of days long gone.
The days when TH-cam was free, ad free and narcism free.
*Revelation 3:20*
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
HEY THERE 🤗 JESUS IS CALLING YOU TODAY. Turn away from your sins, confess, forsake them and live the victorious life. God bless.
Revelation 22:12-14
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Omg is one of those great responsibility situations 😮✨
Thanks uncle Ben 🫂
Once my dad was doing this to our car, something had happened I don’t remember, and I asked if I could try it.. I think I was like 6 or something.. well, I swallowed some gasoline or ethanol and vomited a lot. It was a great night 👍🏻 wished this video had come out in 1998.
thank you so much, really helped me after 15 years 😂
That smirk at the end.... meaningful.
Dude at work showed me this trick cause pump was broken, but you showed me upgraded technique
