    Beautiful design, lots of fun practice on technique but nothing really difficult. A very useful tool when it's finished. Excellent!

    Love it, looks like a great project to start improving hand tool skills.

    We will be starting the live Class on January 14th on this channel. You can find the plans and supplies list here. www.woodbywright.com/shop
    P.S. I realize I used glue on the bottom panel. It is not needed, and I will be talking about several other options in the full build series. I decided to leave it in this video as it was part of the discussion in the build class.

    I made a tool tote this summer, and I was going to make an arched handle out of a stick of buckthorn, but I wanted to just have straight holes and turn the ends of the stick, but the stick was too crooked to actually be able to spin on the pole lathe, so I turned a straight handle with a fancy little gripping spot in the middle out of a stick of ash and burned some lines on it with a wire, which was quite fun. No dovetails, though, just glued and nailed rabbets.

    This is inspiration for my next project. I am going to make a piece of furniture without glue or metal fasteners.

    I like your video's, and I like this project; BUT! didn't you glue the two halves of the bottom together? And did you say repeatedly "no glue needed"?

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. The bottom does not need to be glued together. I did that in this video as I'm going to be talking about that in the build series. I just decided to keep that in this video rather than dropping that section of the job.

    "no glue" : proceeds to do a panel glue up LOL Nice work, adding this to my projects list

    • @thomasarussellsr
      @thomasarussellsr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tongue and groove bottom in place of the glue? Or a tiny little sliding dovetail? A row of edge-mating half blind dovetails to join the two panels together?
      Oh the possibilities.

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      yup. it is not necessary for the build to even glue it. just makes it easier. we will be looking at several options in the full build class, but for this one I decided to keep that part in for the test build to give simplicity.

      Lol thanks That's half the fun of wood by right I always try to mix in a few misspellings. There are a group of people that often try to hunt for them.

      @@WoodByWrightHowTo New to your channel. Are you serious?! About the misspellings, I mean.

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol yup. I am hyper dyslexic and can not seem most misspellings, but I try to put them it the total cards just for fun. And it is fun to do a few that are Finney changes for those that look for them.

    I'm sure the question has been asked before, but why do you hang your ring on the bit when you use the brace and bit?

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It lets me know the bit is level. I can see side to side, but up and down I can not. The ring fixes that.

    I need better saws. When I resaw it takes ages to finish.
    Given that I have several scraps of plywood, I think I'll try mimic this in plywood. I'll just adapt the dimensions according to the boards I have. I'm not sure about resawing plywood. It's about 20mm thick, so not quite an inch.

    • @WoodByWrightHowTo
      @WoodByWrightHowTo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Surprisingly resawing plywood is fairly easy as the different plies help hold the plate in line. It doesn't want to wander quite as much. However there's no reason to resaw it if you have enough plywood. Just pillow the edges until they fit into the grooves.
