The reason why i'm so in love with Bonnie is because she clearly is the melody machine behind some of Katys biggest hits (you can ALWAYS recognize a Bonnie song when sung by Katy -> Teenage Dream, Last Friday Night, Birthday etc) , her melodies are some of the best out there and it reflects in her own songwriting even though many people give her hate while she clearly is BEYOND talented.
She doesn't write melodies, she's even said herself that she's a lyricist. Max Martin writes the melodies for all of the famous artists' popular songs.
I'm not talking about this particular song, I'm talking about all the famous songs she's co-written. They all are involved with Max Martin along with almost all of Taylor Swift's new songs, Britney Spears hits, ALL of Katy Perry's hits (not even just the few that Bonnie co-wrote the lyrics for), all of Ke$ha's hits, and all of most of the super famous artists you hear on the radio today. Sure, this isn't a moving ballad, but the vocal talent is still there. Finally, I'm not sure what bothers you about this so-called "shameless exploitation of her gender." Is it the video? Seems like a pretty obvious parody of older workout videos. Have you seen those things? They're pretty sexual by nature, so I find no fault here. Or maybe it's her clothing? My favorite part is how very few people in the comments realize how tongue in cheek this is. If you watch American Girl, she's clearly making fun of the over sexualization and extreme visuals of various eras and styles and how today treats things like that.
Also, like someone else said, if this was a well known artist, they'd be all over this. Proof that it's the brand, not the content, considering Bonnie wrote/co-wrote a lot of Katy Perry and other pop stars songs.
This is not even to mention Max Martin, who is basically pop god with how many songs he's produced that are huge hits.
I thought this video was hilarious and fun, very 80's mixed with today's tonality. The upsidown twerking has me laughing everytime, it just looks ridiculous.
There is nothing wrong with any music. People like what they like. I hate rap and country, I don't tell people who listen to it that they have terrible taste or are "ruining todays youth" because that's just history repeating itself. Don't be an old curmudgeon blaming the new generation. Everyone's done that a million times since humans existed. Don't believe me? Look it up for yourself. The generations don't change that much, if almost at all. The next one usually is more educated and lives longer than the last and has to deal with whatever the generation previously set up for them. So shut the F up. When I'm 60 the next generations will be smarter, more educated, more worldly and knowledgeable than I am now.
Back in my day, well, my day SUCKED, everyone's did. Nostalgia is just rose colored glasses.

This Rising Star is a True Artist. There is no formula to each unique song, yet she has a cohesive, well-rounded, original style (whom many pop-stars she has written for obviously got inspiration from). ;)
