    Man, I couldn’t have grown up at a better time than as an 8 year old kid in 1999, collecting the cards and playing the game. I was a huge Pokémon fan. I remember doing some chores for my mom and I was rewarded with a booster pack or two of Pokémon cards. Fun careless times back then. I even had a Pokémon backpack for 2nd grade. You had the Pokémon Craze in the late 90’s and the Attitude Era of the WWE then WWF; the Monday night wars. To put it simply the late 1990’s was a great time to be a kid!!.

      I was 7 and I 100% agree! My school was flooded with cards and trading. Became like a mini casino lol.

    If someone bought 10 1st edition base set booster boxes in 99 they could put their kid through college now.

    1999 "haha buying pokemon card packs and saving them to send their kid to college. they wont be worth that much, its a fad"
    2023 pokemon base set cards are worth more than gold

    Wow , in 1999 there were already adults sealing away the cards/boxes as collectibles as if they knew something big was going to come out of them .. fast forward to now , if they still have them , they're worth cars & houses ... Nowadays , if a big kids phenomenon happens again i don't think parents would collect anything . i wonder what was different back then that made those adults want to collect those cards ?

  • @viktorvaughn5669

    That dude shoulda shoved some of those packs in his drawer.

  • @rcg38
    @rcg38 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What he didn’t realise is it would actually be the kids that collected the cards and then grew up and then used them to pay for their own kids college tuition lol. I on the other hand will still hold on to them

  • @youcanthandlemyname7393

    you often hear stories these days of people finding multiple sealed booster boxes in attics and becoming rich over night. that was not kids who kept that sealed and put it in the attic it was one of the parents. and those parents were very smart to see how big the craze was and know that even if it dies down one day they will still be worth something if for no other reason than to remind the future adults of their child hood. make no mistake nostalgia is more valuable than gold.

      My parents actually found a really old baseball card when cleaning out our house, seven years after we first moved in.

    Who the hell is paying $6 to 8 for a card game pack back in the day they were like 2.99 to 3.99 tops

    • @rcg38
      @rcg38 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think my local atomic comics sold them for 3.99

  • @youcanthandlemyname7393
    @youcanthandlemyname7393 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    "well they don't really think that they will be" just one sealed booster box that was selling for 100 at the time could get your kids through college or buy you a house nowadays. god i wish my mom got into Pokémon instead of beanie babies and i also wish she bought a few sealed items just to hold onto long term. just one sealed first edition base set pack goes for thousands and if she bought a few legendary collection packs those are going for about a thousand dollars each.

      It’s hard for anyone in the moment to believe that something that appears to be a fad will have not only staying power, but that merchandise associated with it will drastically increase in value over the course of 20 years. We’ve seen holographic Charizard cards go for tens of thousands of dollars recently. No one could have predicted that in 1999.
