Eldari: "Uhm, yes, this is uhm, Bob... Uhm, Hu... Monkeigh, and I noticed these spacehulks..."
"They look, um, very bad and scary! With spikes!"
"Spikes, you say? Very well, citizen, we'll send someone to take a look"
"Emperor Bless Bob Monkeigh for his vigilance and loyalty! The Imperium of Man will remember your service!"
i love "bob monkeigh" (sounds a little bit like bob _monkhouse!),_ but there's no way the inquisitorial hotline would be that efficient. you'd probably have to "speak the name of the ordo or departmento you are trying to reach… i'm sorry, i was unable to recognise sufficient zeal in your voice. please speak the name of the ordo… i think you said 'order nally-bus'; is that right?" for about half an hour before reaching a switchboard that sends you in circles, and then hanging up.
“Thank you, citizen.”
Off the hotline: “‘Monkeigh’? Really? Request the ordo xenos assistance on this mission.”

Never majorly got into WH40k but was ALWAYS interested. Now im fully down the rabbit hole. Love it.
I’ve moved back home for a bit and found all my old WH army books, I was never bothered with painting or playing but I’ve always loved the art and the lore, thanks for doing these videos so I can keep track of what’s happening!
You should read or listen to the audio books, the paint great pictures and it's nice to actually hear the interactions between 40k characters. Try the Ciaphas Cain books for a lighter more action adventure style (plus the audio book readings are done great)

Vashtorr is such a cool character concept. So jealous.
Love the Vashtorr lore I think he really should ascend to God hood at the end up this by closing the great rift but the burst of energy from the key awakens the emperor fully and he begins to heal and speaks aloud for the first time in over 10 thousand years but uttering the words..... My son's only in death does duty end and it's shown he wakes up the Lion and cracks open the webway briefly to reveal the Khan splitting a dark eldar in half and beckons him through the opening.
I have to be Honest i'm really liking this new Chaos Entity and the fact Chaos is getting some love as a faction, they are default bad guys of the setting, give me more and show why they are so dangerous.
Great video, Lore seems solid, reminds me of the late great Alan Bligh's work in the IA/Heresy Black Books, which is always a good thing.

I’m guessing those keys are going to awaken the Lion and either
A: Abaddon is being tricked (I hope this isn’t it)
B: Awakening the Lion will actually somehow destabilise the imperium
I hope they don't awake the Lion. He so BORING.
@Arbitor Ian I do hear he supposedly had some character development towards the end of the heresy where he realized that he was being too harsh on Luther and needed to improve his intercommunication and people skills-this was then cut short by the fall of Caliban.
Hopefully, when he comes back, they continue this subplot and have the Lion see the error of his ways.
I don't know a whole helluva lot about the goings-on in the Warhammer 40k universe other than the basic timeline, so it behooves me to make sure I get up to speed on the latest campaign, and this Arks of Omen sounds quite ominous. I just hope the Emperor gets to heal up with a serious quickness so he can get off his gold-plated arse and lay waste to all these Chaos chaps. It's a bitch having to keep the Webway closed, but if Big E can get someone to sit on the Golden Throne he can actually start healing all these Warp tears in the galaxy and do what comes naturally following that. As it stands, however, unless he does I have a feeling the Imperium Sanctis and the Imperium Nihilis are in TrOU-BLE!!
Man, this makes me wish I had Models to paint and Friends to play with. I would love to set up an Alpha Legion Unit for some kind of Infiltration/sabotage missions, if that is even possible. Too bad I dont have the passive income for paints and plastics, nor the space for an Arts & Crafts office.
Maybe using Tabletop Simulator with AI Dungeon Generator for some narrative options...

Maybe GW will make a really ballsy move, and have the Emperor vanish from the Golden Throne at the end of 9th Edition and the start of 10th; ready to have him return at the start of 11th?

They’ll probably have a primarch come back at the last moment to save the day just when everything seemed lost but the bad guys will narrowly escape, their plan foiled but with some other vague threat looming on the horizon. Personally I expect Vashtor to be foiled and possibly destroyed right before it’s ascension.

@ArbitorIan Yes. But I got the pronunciation from the Horus Heresy audio books - which I think is narrated by an English person.

@@spookyfudge9987 nothing against him coming back, that would be awesome, but abaddon making a huge hunt for these stuff to make a key to not unleash more chaos and unleash lion would be anticlimactic for me…
Assuming the Lion is returning, we still have no idea about the event or why he returns. We know that Vashtor assaults the Dark Angels from the bit from the 3rd AoO book, so is that what causes him to return? Does Vashtor steal something that causes the watchers to wake him up? In some model pics of Angron, we see him and the World Eaters fighting the DA, maybe Angron inadvertently causes the Lion to wake up? It's still unknown what causes his eventual return, and we probably won't know for while. But I doubt the Silver Key itself "releases" the Lion, it wouldn't make sense for Abby to look for an artifact purposely that brings back another loyal primarch.
I loved this summary! Excellent job as always. Is all this lore in the book itself or was Ian pulling from novels? Or both? And the boarding actions thing seems cool but the set is like $485?! And the books another $115. That’s a bummer. Maybe have to make a home brew one 😅
The lore is all from the book but the setup is from a LOAD of books. And of course this is the briefest summary - the Abaddon book goes into way more detail about everything

@@ArbitorIan i wanna read about how Abbaddon rolled up to Angron with a straight face while Angron was having a blood orgy and tell him that he has something better. Or roll up to khornes fortress, climb that mountain of skulls and ask could he borrow his pet.
@firmak2 another way to look at it is with Abaddon having backing of the Choas God's (willing or not) including Khorne Abaddon is now a Primarch in all but title.
Im sure you have your reasons, and forgive me if you have already adressed this issue in a previous video but why do you insist in pronouncing all of the characters names wrong? I like your vids, and you have a deep understanding of the lore but it makes me cringes when you pronouce a name wrong ( in my opinion) so i am just curious, why do you do it?
I'm pronouncing every name absolutely correctly. No mistakes. Totally perfect.

Guilliman is going to have his hands full. I wonder if Lion 'El Johnson will be waking up anytime soon, if Dorn is coming back for his hand, if Leman Russ is done messing about in the warp, or if Vulkan will be regenerating again.
You're missing the big picture: by the time the whole series is released, GW is going to release some plastic hatches too.

I like that the GW design team's finally returning to the Realm of Chaos format with multiple independent Chaos powers existing aside from the major four. Minor Chaos Gods were severely underrepresented in 40k for years.
Yeah it's great that they're re-emphasising the "small gods" feature of warp space and god-formation. I'm just a little put out since I was already writing up a Dark Heresy campaign with an emerging Chaos God of machines (based on Roko's Basilisk) and now it looks like my players are gon a thi k that's a rip-off of what looks like a Chaos God of the Dark Mechanicum! >:(
The Gods of Law have also been recently mentioned in WFRP which was nice. Cool that GW is finally digging up these old concepts that have been ignored for decades.
Vashtorr is the best addition to Chaos lore in years.

I gotta restate just how awesome an idea Space Hulks are from a wargaming prospective. Anything and anyone could be inside them, they could have been anywhere. Any kind of ship, station or colony could have been amalgamated into them so you can use any kind of terrain or battlefield you want.
Unfortunately they are associated with terminators vs genestelers because how iconic the board game was to the early Warhammer community

Space Hulk got me into 40k in the first place so they've always got a place in my heart, can't imagine how pants shitting it'd be being on some imperial backwater, algi farming planet and then there's a new moon in the sky which is opening fire. Gonna be doing a log of the Into the Dark kill team with that terrain this year, very hype for it!
I'm curious as to how the Mechanicus will respond. I can see many seeing him as the true Machine God and cause at least a few civil wars on their forge planets with a sizable chunk splitting off and joining Chaos.
Would be very cool if a year or two from now we had a Dark Mechanicus(m) faction that was allied with Chaos, or maybe HQ options within a new mechanicus that let you push yourself into a traitor force
I think my favourite bits so far are how other factions have reacted to the Arks and the raids for the artifacts. The Necron Lord who was killed in his tomb, woke up in a new body on the next planet over and was so furious at such a dishonourable death that he gathers everything he can find and heads off for some payback. The Ark that drops into realspace to find the Votann have torn the planet apart for resources and the trail now leads off towards the core. Or the plunderers raiding the Arks for archeotech (they're still hulks, after all) with a band of Drukhari coming close to taking the Ark for themselves, but realising that if they leave it to continue on its journey, it'll leave countless worlds in its wake as easy prey for future raids.
You can pull so many little story moments out of this, not to mention that the setting allows for pretty much every kind of interaction between forces, from Kill Teams, to Boarding Actions, to full scale battles, with no restriction on where they'll be fighting. And the best thing is, I was pondering starting a homebrew Chapter specialising in space-borne and low atmosphere fighting even before all this was announced! It's all coming together!

One of the Arks assaults the Forge World Graia? That's a nice little tie-in to Space Marine 1 there. I like it when GW makes casual nods to third party works.
Graia is also a sub-faction in the Ad. Mech Codex, so it's probably their most prominent nod to a third-party collab.
Unless Graia already existed and Space Marine just made it relevant. I dunno.

As someone who came into contact with 40K through Star Quest (Space Crusade), I could not pass this up. Liked the sneak peek, nice to see, that GW has you on their radar 👍
If I recall correctly, the whole "secret Chaos force making deals with other daemons to turn them into Soulgrinders" was a bit of lore present in Warhammer Fantasy back in the day. At least if the Wikis are to be believed. It's nice to see that thread being put to good use here.
Yeah, it's been around for ages. Fantasy and 40k Daemon armies could both take Soulgrinders.

That's kind of how Gathering Storm went: first book all about the Fall of Cadia, second book 'what the eldar were up to', third book tied it all together.

I'm really excited about tthe Boarding actions mode. Not just removing some of the rules clutter but small points games that don't result in the side with initiative shooting the opponent off the table T1.

Thanks! I actually kinda like this, minor Chaos Gods has always been a part of the lore, the difference between a god and a daemon largely being one of scale and portfolio, and the idea that this is one making their play for the Big Leagues is a cool one.

It was pretty much canon since the day HE made it end up on warhammer+, including the marine chapter seen in the animation being canon if I'm not mistaken.

Ok so here is a dumb part of the lore that stood out to me, Abbadon seeded alpha legionnaire into untrusted warbands....that is really dumb when you think more than a second about it.

Why do they never draw abandons eyes properly? They're bright yellow.
