i love "bob monkeigh" (sounds a little bit like bob _monkhouse!),_ but there's no way the inquisitorial hotline would be that efficient. you'd probably have to "speak the name of the ordo or departmento you are trying to reach… i'm sorry, i was unable to recognise sufficient zeal in your voice. please speak the name of the ordo… i think you said 'order nally-bus'; is that right?" for about half an hour before reaching a switchboard that sends you in circles, and then hanging up.
The Eldari".....wait....bob...hang on a second is this fabius bile....the clone lord of Chaos...come clear now man" fabius bile"yeah... it's me.... it's fabius bile"
Guilliman is going to have his hands full. I wonder if Lion 'El Johnson will be waking up anytime soon, if Dorn is coming back for his hand, if Leman Russ is done messing about in the warp, or if Vulkan will be regenerating again.
I like that the GW design team's finally returning to the Realm of Chaos format with multiple independent Chaos powers existing aside from the major four. Minor Chaos Gods were severely underrepresented in 40k for years.
Yeah it's great that they're re-emphasising the "small gods" feature of warp space and god-formation. I'm just a little put out since I was already writing up a Dark Heresy campaign with an emerging Chaos God of machines (based on Roko's Basilisk) and now it looks like my players are gon a thi k that's a rip-off of what looks like a Chaos God of the Dark Mechanicum! >:(
The Gods of Law have also been recently mentioned in WFRP which was nice. Cool that GW is finally digging up these old concepts that have been ignored for decades.
I gotta restate just how awesome an idea Space Hulks are from a wargaming prospective. Anything and anyone could be inside them, they could have been anywhere. Any kind of ship, station or colony could have been amalgamated into them so you can use any kind of terrain or battlefield you want.
I'm curious as to how the Mechanicus will respond. I can see many seeing him as the true Machine God and cause at least a few civil wars on their forge planets with a sizable chunk splitting off and joining Chaos.
Would be very cool if a year or two from now we had a Dark Mechanicus(m) faction that was allied with Chaos, or maybe HQ options within a new mechanicus that let you push yourself into a traitor force
Space Hulk got me into 40k in the first place so they've always got a place in my heart, can't imagine how pants shitting it'd be being on some imperial backwater, algi farming planet and then there's a new moon in the sky which is opening fire. Gonna be doing a log of the Into the Dark kill team with that terrain this year, very hype for it!
I think my favourite bits so far are how other factions have reacted to the Arks and the raids for the artifacts. The Necron Lord who was killed in his tomb, woke up in a new body on the next planet over and was so furious at such a dishonourable death that he gathers everything he can find and heads off for some payback. The Ark that drops into realspace to find the Votann have torn the planet apart for resources and the trail now leads off towards the core. Or the plunderers raiding the Arks for archeotech (they're still hulks, after all) with a band of Drukhari coming close to taking the Ark for themselves, but realising that if they leave it to continue on its journey, it'll leave countless worlds in its wake as easy prey for future raids. You can pull so many little story moments out of this, not to mention that the setting allows for pretty much every kind of interaction between forces, from Kill Teams, to Boarding Actions, to full scale battles, with no restriction on where they'll be fighting. And the best thing is, I was pondering starting a homebrew Chapter specialising in space-borne and low atmosphere fighting even before all this was announced! It's all coming together!
I’ve moved back home for a bit and found all my old WH army books, I was never bothered with painting or playing but I’ve always loved the art and the lore, thanks for doing these videos so I can keep track of what’s happening!
You should read or listen to the audio books, the paint great pictures and it's nice to actually hear the interactions between 40k characters. Try the Ciaphas Cain books for a lighter more action adventure style (plus the audio book readings are done great)
One of the Arks assaults the Forge World Graia? That's a nice little tie-in to Space Marine 1 there. I like it when GW makes casual nods to third party works.
Graia is also a sub-faction in the Ad. Mech Codex, so it's probably their most prominent nod to a third-party collab. Unless Graia already existed and Space Marine just made it relevant. I dunno.
So happy to see you’ve recovered well from your long streams, I was watching the first one and I had a blast playing Darktide with you. I was “FercoButter” and it was really nice to enjoy the WarHammer community in a new way in the chat. 👍

So abbadon is on a scavenger hunt for artifacts that will awaken an ancient dooms day weapon. Abbadon "ah. Like the gothic war. Where I needed to get two ancient artifacts in order to awaken the blackstone fortresses." Vastorr "yeah a bit like that. Only this time there's..... 45 items."

@11:51 I don't know why but I found what you said funny, like can you imagine if the next book had nothing to do with Angron. "And now lets see what the Harlequins are up to!" Which actually I wouldn't mind, I wish there was more lore on those funny clowns
That's kind of how Gathering Storm went: first book all about the Fall of Cadia, second book 'what the eldar were up to', third book tied it all together.
If I recall correctly, the whole "secret Chaos force making deals with other daemons to turn them into Soulgrinders" was a bit of lore present in Warhammer Fantasy back in the day. At least if the Wikis are to be believed. It's nice to see that thread being put to good use here.
Love the content! I'd love to see a video one day, where you go through a list of all the books (and in which order) you think new as well as veteran fans should buy and read, to get through the great lore of this universe. I find it quite overwhelming whenever I talk to fellow fans and they describe what a financial nightmare it'd be to even start on this!
I love this! Yes this is huge! I been playing since 2008(5th) and switched from Guard/Grey Knights to CSM mid 2009 and since then ive been hearing people hate on Abaddon and blame plot armor for events they personally didnt like. Ive always felt that because of Abaddons belief thar he could do his own thing somewhat as chaos undivides, although naive opened the door to provide him with a great opportunity to realistically split from the traditional villain path and maybe even become some kind of anti hero somewhat similar to Necrons who lets be honest, are not half as menacing or mysteriously evil as they were in 4th and 5th.
There's a really good thread in a lot of the recent books (brought up again in this one) about how Abaddon thinks. As far as he's concerned, assaulting Terra directly is suicide and Horus only did it because he was arrogant - Abaddon thinks of arrogance and overconfidence as one of the main flaws of the Primarchs. So Abaddon plays the long game, slowly building forces and eroding the Imperium until he can be totally sure he'll win.
Thanks for the video. Even though I've been following the news leaks I still have no idea what all this "Arks of Omen" nonsense actually is. So a video like this is just ideal for my needs. Thank you for the work you put in 🙏
Love the Vashtorr lore I think he really should ascend to God hood at the end up this by closing the great rift but the burst of energy from the key awakens the emperor fully and he begins to heal and speaks aloud for the first time in over 10 thousand years but uttering the words..... My son's only in death does duty end and it's shown he wakes up the Lion and cracks open the webway briefly to reveal the Khan splitting a dark eldar in half and beckons him through the opening.
Great content mate!! Keep it up. The lore is the thing that drives my love of 40k and after getting back during 8th to see a new main story line progression was amazing. Since then things seem to have stalled....hopefully the Lion rejoining the fight will mix things up and move the story line forwards again!

I was looking forward to this new story ark (hehe), hoping it would remember the vibe of the Gothic War, and so far, I really like how this is playing out.
Rather than Pokemon, I see this as Abaddon collecting all the Dragonballs to make a wish. The question is who gets the balls first and who backstabs who.
Just saw your video and it's brilliant. Will watch more of your videos now. As for waiting for a game with small forces, deep strategy and you cam play on open field or in the depths of space hulk, join Kill Team, perhaps the best game GW has ever made (besides Mordheim, of course)
I know this was a lore video, but since you mentioned looking forward to playing in the space hulk terrain & I know you play Necromunda, I was wondering if you'd played Kill Team into the dark at all? I've been absolutely loving it, so atmospheric & and the scenery is great.
I think something Chaos does will accidentally wake up Lion El Johnson. Maybe the Watcher's figure out what Vashtor is doing when they attack the rock to steal artifacts and decide now is the moment.
Hey Ian, there's something I would love to know : what are pivotal key moments in warhammer lore ? Like could you do a series that is just for instance : "timeline of the black crusades and in what media (games / books / rulebooks) they premiered in" ? I could probably help you with the graphics if you do need help :)
If a "failsafe" system fails then it fails into a known safe state so that it's failure doesn't have catastrophic consequences. Sorry, that's my day job. I'll see myself out 😂
One of the pages talked about an ark flagrantly trespassing on Red Corsairs territory and getting wrecked for it. Wonder what kinds of things they have to take a daemonic space hulk down that quick
Man, this makes me wish I had Models to paint and Friends to play with. I would love to set up an Alpha Legion Unit for some kind of Infiltration/sabotage missions, if that is even possible. Too bad I dont have the passive income for paints and plastics, nor the space for an Arts & Crafts office. Maybe using Tabletop Simulator with AI Dungeon Generator for some narrative options...
Me: "Sounds cool, but I'm not really engaging with playing the story stuff, so I'll probably give it a miss" Ian: "It has rules for super-Space Hulk" Me: "WELL, NOW I HAVE TO GET IT!"
If it’s not to much to ask which dynasty are the thousand sons fighting I know the tomb world was said but I cant find the dynasty it’s apart of or does it not mention Also thank you for making this video it’s a pleasant way to follow along
So, how does this tie with Roberto Guillermo's Crusade? Keeping track of the threads between big events is maybe the hard part of the lore right now, especially after Plague Wars got retconned
The main part of the Crusade is now over, but there are still fleets wandering around the galaxy doing STUFF, and the war in the Nachmund Gauntlet is ongoing. This is a new Chaos assault.
The Eldari: "Yep, this is a coordinated assault from chaos."
Picks up the phone.
Operator: "You have reached the Ordo Malleus Inquisitorial hotline, did you want to report a herresy?"
Eldari: "Uhm, yes, this is uhm, Bob... Uhm, Hu... Monkeigh, and I noticed these spacehulks..."
"They look, um, very bad and scary! With spikes!"
"Spikes, you say? Very well, citizen, we'll send someone to take a look"
"Emperor Bless Bob Monkeigh for his vigilance and loyalty! The Imperium of Man will remember your service!"
i love "bob monkeigh" (sounds a little bit like bob _monkhouse!),_ but there's no way the inquisitorial hotline would be that efficient. you'd probably have to "speak the name of the ordo or departmento you are trying to reach… i'm sorry, i was unable to recognise sufficient zeal in your voice. please speak the name of the ordo… i think you said 'order nally-bus'; is that right?" for about half an hour before reaching a switchboard that sends you in circles, and then hanging up.
“Thank you, citizen.”
Off the hotline: “‘Monkeigh’? Really? Request the ordo xenos assistance on this mission.”
The Eldari".....wait....bob...hang on a second is this fabius bile....the clone lord of Chaos...come clear now man" fabius bile"yeah... it's me.... it's fabius bile"
I admire the torturous silliness the lore has to go through for GW to release a box of plastic walls 🤣
*also* serving as a convenient delivery system for Angron & his gang, and vashtorr, and the next few kill-teams coming up
Guilliman is going to have his hands full. I wonder if Lion 'El Johnson will be waking up anytime soon, if Dorn is coming back for his hand, if Leman Russ is done messing about in the warp, or if Vulkan will be regenerating again.

@@Xune2000 there's been some rumours the final book is called Lion, so it looks like Johnson may be imminent

Me: "Sounds cool, but I'm not really engaging with playing the story stuff, so I'll probably give it a miss"
Ian: "It has rules for super-Space Hulk"
Me: "WELL, NOW I HAVE TO GET IT!"
I hope Vashtorr does become a chaos god as it would shake up the setting and he would be incredibly powerful.
i wonder if GW Manchester still has it's 3d spacehulk table
If it’s not to much to ask which dynasty are the thousand sons fighting I know the tomb world was said but I cant find the dynasty it’s apart of or does it not mention
Also thank you for making this video it’s a pleasant way to follow along
It's the void dragon below mars. They gonna fuck up mars. Mark my words.
Interesting stuff
So, how does this tie with Roberto Guillermo's Crusade? Keeping track of the threads between big events is maybe the hard part of the lore right now, especially after Plague Wars got retconned
The main part of the Crusade is now over, but there are still fleets wandering around the galaxy doing STUFF, and the war in the Nachmund Gauntlet is ongoing. This is a new Chaos assault.
