Dude this plugin is so awesome. For some reason I was thinking about the way old VHS tapes had a certain 'warble' to their audio and wanted to add that effect to a guitar, or at least learn how to attempt to reverse engineer the effect. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was able to find this. Thanks for taking the time to share!
Holy smokes! Right after I watched the whole video, I played it from the beginning and could've sworn I was listening to the digital remaster. Amazing stuff!
That synth, it sounds like intro background music for an industrial safety training tape. Like you just got a job at a automobile plant, and gotta watch these safety videos on VHS. I can picture the robotic crane arms going back and forth moving car frames, unpainted metal, etc. Or, I imagine the beginning of an 80s TV show, an 80s Corvette slowly driving up to a Stop sign
Those people developed technology, to make the sound CLEAN and we throw VSTs like these on the final mix... Engineers must be cringing with every vst release that downgrades the sound.
@@zxbryc Bro, its not for final mixdowns, but rather more for creative purposes. A good example is adding a Tape Stop effect in trap beats and most of these kids that make these modern beats dont even know what a tape machine looks or feels like. So if u want to achieve "vintage sounding mixes" like the old days its common sense to add vintage effects. People dont use it with intentions of destroying the audio... just like if I want my voice to sound like I'm in an empty cathedral hall.. then I would add a big hall reverb effect. I hope this makes sense.
@@phenomena17 That was not the point. Everyone likes "warm" sound :). My point was that every technology step was towards "better, cleaner, perfect" and now that we have the tech to produce ultra--clean stuff, people throw VSTs to make it un-clean again :)). Ironic, I find it. That was the point.
I’ve been playing digitized versions of VHS tapes on VLC and slowing the speed down -50% or so and some very weird stuff occurs. Filters are cool and fun but for me the magic is in that part that just happens.
Honestly, with that degree of squash and highs being cut, it sounds more like 80's: backing music for voiceover, mall muzak, or hold music, but in stereo.. VHS did and could muffle and warp a bit, but TV speakers emphasized mids and highs more, and audio was mixed/mastered with more high end then (vinyl/tape legacy). Watch some 80's commercial compilations (which were of course recorded on VHS) to hear what I mean, a lot going on in the 900-4k Hz range.
I'm wondering how they recorded the 80's albums too, because all of them, specially beggining and middle of that decade they are remarkable for their middle frequencies...
I just figured out how to install this and its actually so cool, but do you know how I export the audio with the plugin applied? I can only seem to get a preview of it while in Ableton but cant figure out how to export it with the audio effect. Anyways thank you for this video
I love how apple makes camera’s that can shoot in 4k and gen Z and gen alpha is like…”mmm…no thank you I want the 70s back” it’s sad but it’s also good that we want at least a sliver of the good part of humanity back.
Wow didn’t think I’d find this video haha I was about to hook up the old vhs player to see what kind of effects I could get....I maybe lazy and just try this instead lol
what comes to my mind the most that I like about vhs sound effects is the pitch wavering, like the synth in "innerbloom" anyone know what I'm talking about?
This is going to be a very odd question, but... I had the plugin months ago, and accidentally deleted it. I redownloaded the plugin, but it was an updated version that doesn't seem to want to work with the Reaktor 6 demo, and I'm unable to find older versions of the plugin. Does anyone happen to know where I can find an older version?
Reaktor player will work with this and as it's a VST plugin, it will definitely work with Cubase. It will be limited to half an hour though which is a pain. I've seen one by Dyvision on Google but never tried it.
I have never understood why people think a generic intro dropped on the start of every video is a good idea. I have always found it to be a complete waste of time. Edit: Okay admittedly you did add the video title to it. Still, I can read the title fine underneath the video player and I knew what it was before I clicked anyway
Yep. You're right. No need at all but, for me at least, putting it all together with an intro and outro is part of the fun of making it my own work and style. It's also a vehicle to add extra info if I need to.
It's all about creating a brand for your channel and videos. Almost all professional TH-camrs have intros and outros for their videos. Just like television shows.
Why bother and add so much unnatural effects, when you can go to the local flee market, buy an old deck, record your music on REAL tape, then output it back in your DAW - YOU will LOVE the final result and will have FUN making music, again. Wondering why you yourself do not appreciate your tracks? It is because you know you faking it...
to get this program to work you have to install reaktor 6 you can use it in fl studios just make sure the plugin is the plugin menu and when you open reaktor 6 just go to file and open the vhs file

Love it!
Nostalgic at its best. Brings you right back to the old analog days 😃😃
80’s porn shop setting! Sold!!
surprisingly perfect for oldschool Black Metal guitar
its not because we wanna make it bad, people are trying to recreate a moment like the sounds of the 70's

"TDCatTech FM"... nice touch!

I wish this didn't require Reaktor 6 and that it was just a Audio Unit or VST plugin
Agreed. It would make a great standalone VST plugin.
sounds like Jazz Jackrabbit 2 soundtrack :D
I loved that game
I've always wondered how to do this, thank you for the video!!!
Damn now I have to figure out what kinda processing would create that warp, I have most of it all figured out but this came way out from left field
Very cool! Currently I use a real betamax that has a fantastic agc

Did you try updating Reaktor 6 demo to the latest version and then download the latest version of the VHS plugin?
I hope tapes make a comback like vinyls did.
thanks for the review! glad u liked it
Certainly do. Excellent.
quite interesting but I'd like to experiment with using it in parallel with the dry signal. Perfect track for this plug in.
Thanks for the video. You did a great job on this. Do you have an upload or link to the song with those additions with no dialog?
Man, I just grew mustache from watching this....
Can you import your own music and add those filters
The warp is perfeck
Anyone have a version of the suite that will work on the 1.0 version of Reaktor 6, a download link would be appreciated!
Good taste for music!Love this style too. There is any similar plugin that I can use for Cubase? This is only for reaktor what a pitty..

It's very good programmes. l love the music.
where's the mix knob?
80s rules)
Is there an Audacity equivalent for this?
This is what Jack Stainer does
What is the software you are using with this plug in?
I wish I could do this in Audacity
Dope !
I have reaktor 5 I'm getting not a valid .ens file when I try to run it in reaktor. Anyone have this issue?
Reaktor 6 only, I’m afraid. Also, I think it now needs the full version and won’t work with Reaktor 6 Player 😕
This is an effect VST plugin? Where can I download it?
No. It's a Reaktor ensemble. Just google 'Reaktor VHS' and you'll find it.
TDCatTech is their anythimg like this for Garage band? to get a old school vocal sound for recoding music
Ohhh the drum sounds are fabbb.
5:51 sounds like linear stereo on EP mode. 10:20 is when the audio track is folded away from the reproduction head..
its able to mac?
Anders seems to be getting quite prolific! About this 30 mins thing, can you restart it, or if not, can you reinstall it or anything after that ?
Yes. You can restart it (at least I did once). Clearly it's a big restriction on usage but not an unreasonable one.
can anyone tell what sound it it at 10:55 , the appegiating thing at the right side of the audio
Sounds like a theramin.
how can i install it
Hmm, my real VHS VCR sounds not less than CD, without these effects.
Taken to extremes here to show off the capabilites, but I'm perfectly sure it's capable of that crystallized nearly-clean tape sound too.
just give me a VHS dll ahhhhhhhhhhhh, its so hard to find one!!
Is there something like this for the program Audacity?
This should work in Audacity as a VST plugin...I'm only guessing though as I've never used Audacity but I believe it has some VST support.
TDCatTech I think it does
Edit: the plugin isn't in a vst format... it's in an .ens format
That's right. This is for use in Reaktor 6 from Native Instruments. The player version of this is a VST plugin.
TDCatTech where can I get the player version, if it's not too much to ask?
Linux users can use the CALF Tape Simulator for free.
Nice. Thanks for the info. Haven't heard of that one.
Thanx for the info!
