    • @21eienni

      He didn't play Indiana in this series because he didn't want to be on TV, and he played in this episode to please Lucas but on the conditions that they would film only one day, not too far from his ranch in the Wyoming, and that he would keep his beard from "The Fugitive".
      Or so I heard.
      I'm not saying Harrison Ford doesn't care about the character, though, because I'm sure he loves/cares about the character.

      Gabriele Riva well if you take a look at some of the stuff on the indiana jones wiki it states that his father died in 1951 a year after this adventure. So my theory is that when his father died he just lost the will and went back to his old ways thinking that he was all alone and that he was the last jones (he wasn't)

      That and the Infernal Machine. That's canon according to The Lost Journal of Indiana Jones. And it has all the Russians and other dimensional beings that they wanted in Crystal Skull, except it doesn't beat you over the head with it, i.e. flying saucer and Roswell greys. It still feels supernatural rather than obviously sci-fi.

      @Starscream91 Didn't say they should. But they can still look to them and other media for good techniques, namely how to do aliens in Indiana Jones without a freaking cheesy flying saucer. They could have executed the story of Crystal Skull better is what I'm getting at.

    You know, the reason I like this segment so much is that it reminds me of the beginning of The Last Crusade. Not in the sense that it has a Young Indy, but that it shows the progression of the character in terms of his life experience as a kid shaping who he eventually becomes. Indy 1, 2, and 4 more less have Indy as a static character--3 and this section show Indy as a youth who wants to do the right thing, but it just doesn't work out. It's only until he grows up that he gets the life experience that lets him pull through and win in the end. In a way, Indy *losing* as a kid makes Indy winning as an adult all the better. If he would have always succeeded as a kid, it would've been a massive disservice to that character.

    The cabin contained boxes of old household items and mementos. Things that belonged to whoever used to live there. One of the boxes contained a musical instrument called a saxophone. Indy had played a saxophone back when he was in college. So, while they were trapped in by the storm, he started playing, then told a story from when he was in college working as a waiter. The same time he learned to play the sax. He starts out narrating, then the normal episode plays, then it ends with Harrison.

      @Graphiar Lucas wrote some of the episodes and oversaw the story for the others, so I'd say he was fairly involved in the show. He had a lot more time to be involved in the show since he wasn't putting out movies, although ILM was doing the effects for Jurassic Park around the time of the second season. Speilberg, on the other hand, would have been busy directing Jurassic Park and Schindler's List at that time so I doubt he would have had the time to be involved in the show.

    NO! I don't know how you got that idea!?! The odds of that being the same sax... well, I don't even need to elaborate. He finds the sax and has a nostalgic feeling because it reminds him of when he used to play one. Not because it's the exact same one. It makes him remember the good ol' days. As I said when I first responded to you, he finds the sax, it reminds him of his college days when he used to play one, and he starts reminiscing about that time period.

  • @Koldeman

    Idk if you can understand what a BIG DEAL this was when it aired. Up to that point, "Young Indy" had an identity crisis. At the beginning, viewers were promised that the series was going to be the most epic & ambitious series ever produced & publications like "Starlog Magazine" were pushing the idea that every episode was going to be like an Indiana Jones movie. While it was clear that Lucas spared no expense & the production quality was incredible, fans were initially cold to it.
    It began at a present-day museum where a couple of the cheesiest kid actors sneak away from their school group only to be stopped by the campiest old guy playing old Indy teaching these whipper-snappers about the adventure of education with the hammiest dialog you can imagine. At this point, I was thoroughly embarrassed that I made my parents watch this instead of "Unsolved Mysteries".
    Without Harrison Ford, "Spielberg magic", & John Williams iconic Raiders March, this didn't feel very much like Indiana Jones, but the show slowly built a mediocre viewership.
    When it was advertised (HEAVILY advertised) that Ford was making a guest appearance, that was a dream come true. Just to see Ford on a TV show was momentous- he's a bona-fide movie star!
    Obviously, this aired during "sweeps week" (the time when ratings/shares needed to be maximized if a show was to survive for renewal). It was GLORIOUS to see Harrison Ford reprise Indy, with classic John Williams music to boot! Indy had a beard & long hair because he was filming "The Fugitive" at the time, but it only helped to give the appearance that we were catching up with him & time had passed since we last saw him. The whole thing worked & fans were largely satisfied & not disappointed.....but it wasn't enough to save the series. Lucas persuaded then President of Programming at ABC Bob Iger (familiar name?) to keep it on another year. He did & 20 years later when he was CEO of Disney, he would recall this generous favor to persuade Lucas to sell his company...but that's a whole other topic.

      I've tried several times to watch Young Indy, & it loses me every time for 2 reasons.
      #1, the show never captured the feel of the Indiana Jones movies because it had no input from Spielberg & was helmed entirely by George Lucas. The same thing happened with the Star Wars prequels. They have nothing in common with the original trilogy because Lucas took over creative control.
      #2, which complements #1, Young Indy is not at all the same character as Harrison's Indy in the movies or even River Phoenix's Young Indy from the opening of Last Crusade.
      At least from the episodes I've seen, Sean Patrick Flannery's Indy feels like the dweeby nerd that's trying his hardest to be the cool kid & failing miserably. Phoenix's Indy was just a natural rebel who disregarded safety & consequences to do what he thought was the best course of action, regardless of what others warned.

    • @brentscott6326
      @brentscott6326 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @tommy1138
      @tommy1138 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Crystal Skull was a fantastic movie. Fanboys bitch about "lack of outdoor locations" and yet Temple Of Doom was shot almost entirely on sets. They complain that a fridge being blasted into the air by a nuke is less believable than a knight sitting in a room for 700 years waiting for treasure hunters to drink from a cup, a German plane flying into a tunnel or ghosts melting the faces off of Nazis. It's all about expectations and perspective.

    • @brentscott6326
      @brentscott6326 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      i actually like the first half,its the second half where it all goes to shit,after they escape the russian camp with the (bad cgi)monkeys and chase through the jungle with the ants and river,in fact i really loved the whole ancient alien concept thing,it was just too over done and corny in my opinion,i just watched it again recently and what pisses me off the most is that it had the potential to be better than the first 3 but it was poorly scripted and over done with bigger fights and chases(cause an older indiana jones would have the energy for more stunts and fights than when hes in his 30s right?) and too much computer animation...im looking forward to the new one though,ill always go into a new Harrison Ford movie with optimism,especially if its Indy

The first three were at their core a tribute to that era of film as is this one is to 50s. Aliens, big bugs and impossible things with nukes are literally the norm in 50s era filmmaking. There were hundreds of them in their individual categories and thousands combining categories.
