Well for a good 15 minutes of that video I'm thinking "What the heck is she doing?" and then at the end, it all came together.
I'm going to have to practice this on some crappy old wagons to see if I can get a similar result because it's far easier and quicker than the way I weather now.
    Excellent video Jenny

Just had a go with this on my n gauge 21t wagons, very easy and very pleased with the results thanks Jenny.

A really great video Jenny showing how to achieve really good results without spending a fortune on an airbrush etc and really impressive results, just one negative comment and hope it doesnt wrankle, axle boxes never rusted in BR days as they always leaked oil and never had rust on them the same went for steam locomotives etc. As a whole a spot on video though and i love the hands on approach literally with the paint on hands. You are a true modeller who knows their stuff

Brilliant video! I’ve always been petrified of weathering my stock but I’ll give it a go now. What’s best is there’s no fancy airbrushes or high-tech materials or equipment needed. Interesting piece about the coal loads. They look so similar to the coal loads I make using carbon granules (for fish tanks or scuba gear) on 3mm mdf with a 50/50 pva glue mix.

Hi Jenny really enjoy your videos keep Em Coming. A good tip I picked up from "Bunter Yard" is to paint the inside of the wagon first so its dry outside, then use the center from a tiolet roll pushed into the wagon as a handle and then paint the outside. Sorry to point out the obvious but why don't you wear latex gloves anyway? This means you can change the gloves when the model is nearing completion so you don't get those annoying paint fingermarks on the outside at the last minute and spoil the work. I keep a load of rolls handy and keep changing them.

Very outstanding, just prefect, cheap as well from the old paint that's been used once you was your brush's out.Never thought of that idea. Be nice to use a few old wagons on a abandoned siding !! ! thank you carol

Hi Jenny - I had a go with weathering washes and powders and also used scrapings of chalk too and I was quite pleased with the result. You are right just need confidence to have a go. Those loads are good too. Cheers Kev

Very nice work Jenny once again proving one doesn't necessarily need an airbrush to achieve superb weathering results! Cheers Joachim

The weathering looks great. As you say 'Trust Me' I would not be that trustworthy. I would trust you. Great tutorial., Jenny. The coal loads look great.

cracking tutorial, i have now tried it on my o gauge Accurascale HUO wagons. I cant agree on the uild quality of the wagons though, almost every wagon fell to bits in my hands, buffers coming loose, sprung axel dropping out, handrails falling off.

Great endorsements to the comments of a very informative tutorial and as you say have the confidence to have a go and certainly applicable to all gauges, I will get round to do my O Gauge 16 tonners in due course and maybe also get a Accurascale hopper.

Always something I wanted to do and was too scared of ruining a perfectly good model. Thanks Jenny you made it look so easy, I’ll have to have a bash

Great work with the weathering, should the coal loads not be sitting a bit higher?

Nice to see no airbrush, although looks like your fingers have been seriously involved. I have seen some peoples using sponge cut offs rather than a brush for daubing the paint on, brush for the streaks. One thing awkward I've found with powders is that scale effect, where really it has to have a lot before one notices it. Mind you, base colours of the subject help a great deal. black washes over black locos etc... You've done a great looking job there.
