Lovely Loco and unboxing Jenny' ...you probably have sussed by now, but just in case - the piping is White on the outside then a gap of the Blue livery (not Black) and then a cream inner. The wording on the Golden logo reads 'PECKETT & SONS LTD 1918 No 1455 BRISTOL RYHOPE COLLIERY
With all that wonderful detail in the cab what a pity the roof isn't removable. Not only could we appreciate the exquisitely depicted controls, but adding a crew and other detail would be simple. This suggestion is appropriate to many recently issued r-t-r locos these days.
That's one of the most beautiful little loos I have ever seen absolutely stunning I use to have a little hornby caladionian railways steamer same very heavy but boy could it pull some rakes was a proper little work horse😊 Cheers jen😉
Sprung buffers are most over mentioned item in model train videos ever and as you say people with three link coupling may not like it .. but if they are shunting there rolling stock and loco,s at the speed needed to make use of the sprung buffer .. that's not using scale shunting speeds at all .. and the only point of sprung buffers is so people can hold the loco and push them in with there finger
Jen, you did a great job with the lighting and camera to really show the loco brilliantly. 6 pin decoders in the wrong way will just have no function output as +common and function are swapped around and forward direction will be reversed due to orange and grey swap over. I would love to see the manufacturers use orange and grey for the motor terminals and red and black for the pickups. Some Hornby locos are not friendly to putting other than the decoder they want you to fit - case in point the Hornby 4 pin decoder and the sentinals when 6 pin or 8 make a lot more sense with standard sockets. I get spare sockets and have spools of fine decoder wire to sort this out when needs be. With hard wiring I avoid heat shrink joins often by just removing the manufacturers wire and soldering the decoder leads directly to the motor and pickups. Great video. Thanks again Jen.
The NEM 651 6 pin socket is a more common standard in N gauge. A much easier decoder to fit would be something like a Gaugemaster DCC23 - simply plug fit. Many Zimo sound chips for 6 pin sockets.
Excellent review, Jenny. Particularly like that you show how to install a DCC decoder, not seen that on any other TH-cam review. I've recently purchased the light blue B2 'The Earl' plus Hornby's R7150 6 pin decoder but there's quite a lot of wires from the motor in this model plus the wires in the decoder itself make this a tight fit. Is it possible to fit a direct plug 6 pin decoder to this model? Have noticed that Hornby appear to recommend their 4 pin decoder for this model on their website. Many thanks.
Lovely Review --Jenny -- May i suggest you look up in your spare time and view " Chatham Historic Dockyard " -08/04/2012 (Medway Festival of Transport )-- I think you both may find it quite enjoyable and some of interest:--- With such rolling stock and steam engines, etc, Take note of "Avelings Porter" 0-4-0 --"Sydenham"-- "Andrew Barclay " 0-4-0 -- No 8 "Victory" (wd Grey Saddle Tanker") -- "Robert Stephenson & Hawthrons" -- 0-4-0 ost "Ajax " (green saddle tanker) "Pickett" 0-4-0 No 1903 --- "Planet" ------ "Rochester Castle --- 0-4-0.--- " Achilles"-- 0-4-0--(green) . I adore these Pecketts and I am considering to buy a B2 Peckett as a “foreign” addition to my soviet themed layout. I like the W4 Peckett more than the B2, but I am afraid it would refuse to drive over the dead zone in my points, so that’s why I would probably go for a B2. Does it have pickups over all three axles? Greetings from 🇧🇪🙋♂️
Basically another classic Fleischmann style decoder setup with 6 pins on an 8 pin pcb. Could a n scale decoder fit into the same position? Like the ESU lokpilot micro which can do 750mA
A fine addition to your collection. I keep my W4 in view on my layout. And good for you showing how to disassemble and install the chip.

Superb detail on the loco, Jenny. Well done Hornby.
Lovely looking model and a great review.
Cheers
Very informative and a entertaining presentation as ever Jennifer.
The detail is fantastic, especially inside the cab. Very informative review

Those colors are either NEM or NMRA standard, maybe Hornby uses the Märklin color scheme instead (green and blue on the motor)
@@ivovanzon164 A lot of them just have black for both pickups. Not sure about the very latest.
Great vid, you may not be modelling 'Ryhope Colliery' but Ryhope colliery was in Sunderland so quite apt for Wear Yard

Another excellent review and I am going for Westminster Portland Cement to go with some Accurascale Blue Circle wagons.

Damn! just placed an order with Hatton's last week and a pre-order for that loco. I could have paid one lot of postage to Australia.
LOL! I placed an order with them last week too - Melbourne here.
That loco does look nice and very tempting if there are any left.

makes a welcome change from sams trains
The white lining. On my monitor, it appears to be white on the outer line, and gold on the inner.
Yes, I noticed that when editing the video. It wasn’t obvious to the naked eye but when you get a close-up view, it’s certainly a different colour.
How much
Disappointing that we couldn't see it running.
