It's my childhood dream playing violin, but somehow started with acoustic guitar at the age of 15, now as life begins at 40 I hope it's not that too late for me to fulfill what I've been dreaming of during my younger years, I got my new violin at last, but a little nervous like having a new friendly dog that needs caring and loving both ways. Thanks for being a part of my first step of learning violin.😊👍😘
Same I started playing the guitar a year ago and I get lessons at school. I also play piano but I’m just now starting to learn sheet music and now I have just ordered a violin. I’m so excited to start.
Same here my dream is to play Violin but no idea how to start how to Play and Now im 42 yet want to Learn and Play beautifuly like a Pro i hope its not to late for us.
What a great tutorial. My kid is learning violin through virtual school and her fine tuning pegs were spun the whole way in. This video helped me set up her violin and get it taken care. I also love that you start the tutorial right out of the gate. Skip the pleasantries! I'm here to fix this violin.
You were so thorough when I want to know something I only see till the part I want,,, but you were so educated I saw the whole thing, plus your tone of voice is so feminine it almost put me to sleep ,I thank people like you that are not selfish thanks 😊
You came like heavenly intervention! I have bought my first violin and am waiting for it to arrive. I sat here wondering how I would set it up when, there you were .... a fairy godmother :) and showed me clearly all I needed to know for day one. Very many thanks, I still have my first lesson before me, but when I am a virtuoso I will mention you frequently :) Mind you, at 84 I might be leaving it a bit late to play catch-up
That's so nice and detailed.. I've been tuning them in the order of DGAE just because I thought to do one side then the other, but tuning the middle 2 first makes a lot of sense!
This is the first and only video I need to get me started... I am quarantined... Will turn this into a positive and pick up a new skill... Thank you 🙏🏾💜😊🎻
Thank you for creating this video! As a professional violinist and instructor, I have a couple of observations: 1.) During the "tuning" portion of your video, instead of saying "etcetera" while listing the string names and octaves (G3, D4...) I think you should finish saying the other two (A4 and E5). 2.) Also during the "tuning" portion: you should play the sound of the strings being tuned - how they go up or down, in or out of tune - instead of the children's tune "Skidamarink". Students should hear what you are doing so they can learn how to tune their violin. You should also explain what you are looking for on the tuning app, and what is happening on the app while tuning. (The needle or arrow indicating the pitch is too high or too low, then turning the peg or fine tuner a specific direction to tune the string while watching the needle or arrow move to the correct spot on the app.) 3.) For the shoulder rest: it does not keep the violin flat and secure on your NECK. Yes, you feel the violin on your neck, but the shoulder rest keeps the violin on your shoulder and collar bone. 4.) Shoulder rests: foam should not be the first option to choose if your shoulder rest is uncomfortable; instead, looking for another suitable shoulder rest (like you eventually cover) should be the first step. Also, foam pads should really only be used for children/youth beginners, and only for a short time. -- Again, thank you for this video! I would pass it along to my own students, but I need a video that helps with the tuning in a more detailed manner. (I am currently teaching online so I can't tune their instrument for them. I show them how to tune in their online lessons, but I thought a supplemental video would be helpful for them during the week, in between lessons.)
This was very useful. Being used to guitar and piano the violin is completely different, even the way you have to push the tuning pegs when turning baffled me and I thought I'd gotten a damaged violin haha.
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial. My daughter is just starting her first violin lessons and this kind of advice is pure gold for dads like me who know nothing about violin, but who anyway will be the person who needs to do all this :)
I recently purchased a violin (Cremona SV-1260) and it is supposed to arrive today. I anticipate watching this video maybe 20 times once it arrives. Thank you so much!
I really appreciate this video. It was quick and straight to the point. I just picked up violin again after 6 years of not playing and I’m relearning the ropes so this really helped me out! 😊
Happy I started with this video because it is exactly where I need to start; right at the very basics and you provided that sista' Well done. Thank you. Turning 71 in two days and have played guitar my entire life and eventually went on to bass guitar, mandolin and even banjo, however, violin has always, always been my secret love. After having played Lindsey Stirlings' 'Christmas C'mon' during the holidays year after year, I finally got the inspiration this season that I have been waiting for and ordered a Bellafina 4/4, fretboard note position marker tape kit in four colors, Kun shoulder rest and a Piezo pickup kit. When I grow up I want to be as cool as Lindsey ........... hahahahaha ............. lol ...........
such a great video my cousin and i both got violins today and this really helped us thank you so much i wonder why it doesn't have like a million views
Thank you very much. I just bought a new one and trying to learn on my own. Was struggling to figure out why violin made no sounds. Keyword to the solution "super generous with rasin"
I just inherited a family heirloom violin that hasn't been played since the 1950s, at least. I learned a lot, already. I don't know if my shoulder will be able to handle playing, though.
This is the most helpful video for setting up I’ve ever seen. I’ve been checking with my fingers to see if the bow hair is sticky enough and wondering why no sound would come 😂 can you also suggest a rosen?😊😊
The frequencies you gave for each string in hz was very helpful. I need a key for A-410 please if you could. Also a key for A-415 I don't want to put you to any trouble but if you could I would be greatful. Thank you for this violin tutorial!
Hi. Well that was a Delight, My Dear. I am an ancient 72 Guitar Nut and thought I might try something different to keep the Brain in Operation, so bought a cheapo on a whim and I can assure you the Bridge is NOT in Line with the F-Stop cut outs. Easy fix on my painted job, just draw a Line between both F-Stop cutouts to centre the Bridge laterally. In no way are the strings Centered on the holdy bit, (see, I'm getting the Tech Terms already !), so I'll move the Bridge over, and once the Strings are centred with aforesaid holdy bit, I will use a Permanent Fine Line Marker and trace round the Bridge Base and onto the HORRIBLE Paintwork to make it easy for the next Bridge Shift. I have to admit, as an Engineer, those Fine Tuners took me by surprise. Nice touch. Still to investigate though. Thanks for the Video, it meant a Lot. Regards. Bloke. .
The right side means nearest to the E string in this case anyway for this video. Plus always loosen the string a little bit first before you tighten it or you may go too fast and break your string.
Once again....I see trolls have thumbs down on a video that baffles me. Seriously Trolls of the Internet....go outside, eat a burger, or....better yet...do something productive to help someone else as has this video's producer. Sheesh.
Google: how high should violin action be It is string height above the fingerboard and I think it needs to be checked as part of violin set-up. Good brand of strings is apparently important and may not come with a low cost violin. Violinist tend to be picky about rosin as well Pretty good video. I've been googling to sort out problems before I buy a violin to learn on I will be getting electric to avoid sound post and wood-humidity & temp issues. They can be practiced with earphones as well
Can someone recommend which cloth to buy to clean the violin? I am a complete novice and just rented a violin. Know nothing about it. Will take lessons soon.
great video. I have a question. So I want to learn how to play and I bought a violin and while I was busy tuning it carefully, the A string snapped. I think I might have done something wrong but that string needed to be tuned higher in order for it to be in tune but it just snapped. what should I do to prevent this?
Nice video, but I wish it was more DIY oriented. It's very easy to do things like resize the bridge (as many cheap violins come with bridge which is way too high), reposition sound post (with right inexpensive tools). No need to go to violin shop which can cost you a pretty penny when you can do it yourself very easily.

Sounds like me! Played sax and acoutic guitar as a teen and now at 34 just bought a violin to try something new. Cheers xo

Thank you so much. I liked the tutorial. It was to the point. No beating around the bush
My friend Carman just got her new violin, I’m so excited she is my very best friend and now she has the ability to create music as beautiful as her
Thank for the excellent step-by-step lesson for the violin beginners. It is also helpful for the mothers of violin students like me.

Thanks a lot !

I'm 44 years old and only bought my first ever violin 🎻
Wow…I am 42 and I just bought one!!
Now I just got my violin today and I noticed the bridge has now grooves on it. Do you make your own grooves or its suppose to come like that?
I had no idea how much work it is with a violin 😅
Thank you !!

This is a great tutorial who dislikes this

Thank You
My resin came all smashed and there are a couple of pieces but they seem to be smooth should I be sticky
