Hello, I'm English and came to Italy in 1964. I had never seen a bidet before but grew very quickly to appreciate it. Now I'm lost without one when I go to England!! Your house is beautiful and unique!!

Grazie mille Alessandro! Haha all our workers voiced their concern over us not renovating in a to them ”modern” style 😂 and even the IKEA delivery guy made comments. It’s alright though, in Scandinavia old looking kitchens is trendy and no matter what we love ours ❤️

As an American I agree with almost everything you guys did. Open floor plan, Older style fixtures and lots of bathrooms. I must say though, after numerous trips to Italy I have embraced the bidet! I now wish we had them here. The dark walls and ceilings are little hard for me, but your home is beautiful and you should be proud of what you have accomplished.

hahaha " ugh, vecchio!" 🤭 love your style choices- we live in Brazil and favor indirect light too - mostly here where there's so much natural light all year long! We see other people's homes and they could perform surgeries in their sitting and dining rooms, with VERY strong overhead white lights - I would find it stressful to live like that. As Brazilians we also love culture blending - Scanditalian is the way to go! Happy Holidays!🌲

hahaha, I laughed so much when I overheard the delivery guy.
Thank you so much! Yes about the lights I really can't stand a strong light other than in the bathroom 😅 but it's probably a question of what your eyes are used to. In Sweden where Im from it's very dark 6 months of the year so maybe my eyes are adjusted to that, haha.
      Happy holidays to you too!

I am an American with 100 pct Italian ancestry both sets of grand parents and great grand parents. I like your design choices, especially the atmospheric lights and candles. I do find that they younger generation of Italians likes open plan kitchen/living rooms, even down south in Abruzzo where our house is. They do prefer the "modern" kitchen cabinetry/laminates, though, as you stated.

For us it's very important to be humble towards the local way of doing things since we consider ourselves guests in this country. But it's indeed very different techniques to what we are used to from northern countries.

I really like how your home is set up. I find I want to remove doors inside as well. I found that having new things made people in the village where I live feel proud. They didn't want old things. Although they don't understand me, they have been very supportive. Your home is beautiful.

@@OurItalianDreamHouse I think we Germans like it because it's easier to just turn on ONE switch and many people are overwhelmed by setting up a room.
It's not uncommon for Germans to go to Ikea and buy exactly everything from a sample room and put it exactly the same way at home.

LOL! As we work with our Geometra we have run into some of these issues. The big one is all of the new bathrooms and no bidets. They just have to talk about the assets of having a bidet. Actually my son loves bidets. We will install Japanese style bidets that are part of the toilet seat rather than an extra plumbing hookup. One of the fun things about going to a new country is to understand why they do the things they do. It is a lesson in culture. So much fun!

your house is unique to you, you kept some of the old & mixed a very little bit of new, i thought painting the whole room in dark colours was a little weird but once your furnishings went in, it looked quite good, you have an eye for decorating
others think it strange to go outside the box & not be like everyone else, following traditions down to the letter but people to bring in their own traditions to blend with the old & make it their own
like one of the other comments said below; IT'S YOUR HOUSE you should decorate it any which way you choose! i think it looks great & can't wait to see what you do with the rest of the rooms.

I didn’t like the dark green paint you used in your kitchen at all, I thought it made the room look like a cavern when you were 1st applying it. But now that the cabinets & island are installed with the beautiful white Carrera marble counter tops & brass fixtures, I find it stunning. Combined w/your living room & the wood stove, it looks like something out of a magazine. I wouldn’t choose those colors for my kitchen, but you have put together an aesthetic that suits you & that’s all that matters! 😊 Brava.

What a nice comment, thank you Sylvana! I always have a very strong idea / vision of how I want things so the first steps sometimes doesnt make sense at all until it all comes together 😅 our kitchen is inspired by a Swedish interior store called Artilleriet, which about 8 years ago had a studio kitchen all in green with carrara marble like this. I havent been able to stop thinking about it so when I got the chance to design a kitchen from scratch I knew immediately what I wanted to go for 😊

Loving your videos! I'd double-check about the bidet bit though because I know you don't want a bidet but I'm pretty sure it's a building regulation for you to have one fit in a property. I'm probably wrong in saying that though but worth checking.

thank you so much for alerting us in such a nice way though 😊🙏

I don't care for ceiling lights and much prefer table lamps and candles, but here in America it seems that newer construction uses lots of small spotlights in the ceiling, and lamp stores are disappearing. Our house (in Washington state, south of Seattle) was built in 95, and only the kitchen and laundry room have overhead lighting. As to the number of bathrooms, I agree with you, but I do wish we had a bidet. I never want to go through another TP shortage as we did during Covid! Your colors are soothing, and I don't understand the need for the newest things either. A comfortable kitchen is better than a shiny one! I enjoy watching your adventures, and look forward to seeing what you do next! Thanks!

Love this video! I agree with you on most things. Our pets are certainly part of our family! Bidets were not, and are not, a thing in all the places we have lived (America, Europe and now Australia). We only recently started using 2 duvets/quilts on our king size beds and what a difference they have made -- we sleep more comfortably, soundly and longer. No more fighting over the bedding!! It seems interior decorators have taken a view against open plan living, but our new home (we are currently building) will have a large open plan living area in it. Heating and cooling your house is easier if you insulate properly, and use energy efficient heating/cooling appliances. Our existing home, which is for sale, also has no overhead lighting in the living room, which potential purchasers are struggling with. However, we have lots of different lamps in the space, which we use instead of overhead lighting. Your home is beautiful - the dark walls and ceilings are stunning. It might not be to everyone's taste, but it suits your house beautifully.

    • @OurItalianDreamHouse
      @OurItalianDreamHouse  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you for such a lovely comment! So nice to hear that you share so many of the thoughts on designing and building a home as we do - the two duvets is definitely a game changer for improved quality of sleep. That's interesting that your potential buyers are struggling with the lighting, but like you say plenty of lamps and supporting lighting is a great solution and creates a nicer atmosphere. Good and proper insulation is a must, we only just added fibreglass wool in the attic and it's made a huge difference to the ability to retain heat in the house. Glad you like the dark paint we used - it's definitely not to everyone's taste, but like you said it works really well in the spaces that we've created and we love it! 😁 Wishing you all the best for your house build project in 2024, that sounds very exciting! 🤩

In Nordic we can have open spaces as every window is nowadays at least 3- gllassed and there isradiator under each window, and therefore there is no draft. I'm not in love of open kitcchens as the grease it the thing flowing everywhere and that powerful hood that tries to eliminate that is noisy.

One thing we miss most about living in Sweden is always being barefoot at home 😂

Your Swedish neighbours also don't understand separate duvets. Other than that, I see a trend.

Again open space is not weird, keeping dogs inside you house is not weird...you're maybe referring to habits in the countryside but belive me nothing sounds that weird for me living in a city...

Thanks for sharing Carola. How about the lighting? 😊

Also for lighting it's not weird not having a central light, for sure the vibes you speak about are typically nordic ones but I don't see any tragedy in opting for floor or table lamps 😅
