Hey cruisers! It's Mark and Rocky sharing our cruise adventures with you! From cruise ship walkthroughs and cruise ship reviews, to port and excursion overviews - we're taking you into this cruise life by providing you with videos, pictures, and background on our favorite hobby: cruising!
The idea for thiscruiselife was born during the pandemic when cruising came to a halt around the globe. Talking about #thiscruiselife allowed us to support the cruise industry during the shut down, while providing an outlet to celebrate all of the things that make this form of vacation travel the best out there!
Whether you're a first-time cruiser, or seasoned on the seas, there's likely something for you here on the channel. And as we grow, we'd love your questions, comments, and, of course, feedback, to make us even better.
You can find us on all socials and at thiscruiselife.com.
You might say we're kind of passionate about this cruising hobby (obsession?) and we love sharing it with you!

Bonsai Sushi Expanded Menu: What you should try and what you should skip | Carnival Cruise Line
We love splurging on Bonsai Sushi when sailing on Carnival Cruise Line! While we typically get the "Ship for 2," I decided to try a little bit of everything across the menu on my last Carnival Panorama sailing in October 2024. The full meal includes appetizers, sushi rolls, sashimi, new items from the expanded Japanese plates section, and even dessert! I share all that's great - along with one dish so terrible that I didn't even try to finish it.
I hope you enjoy this expanded food review of Bonsai Sushi! You can also check out a couple other Bonsai Sushi videos on the channel:

In October 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in Holland America Line's unique Standby Program. I chose a 4-night sailing on their Eurodam ship as it repositioned from Vancouver, BC to San Diego, CA. Follow along for the journey and to find out if I would recommend Holland America Line for your next cruise. In this video, I cover my overall experience discussing what I loved, didn't lov...

@@Supervixn what a great way to ring in the new year! It’s just so much fun.
Does the gym have a Men only Sauna and SteamRoom?
It does not. The Excel-class is ships have a co-ed sauna that is included. There is a co-ed steam room as well, but that’s in the paid area of the spa. The lockerrooms still have changing areas, showers, and bathrooms. Those, of course, are not co-ed. Haha ;) -Mark
I'm going on valiant in 11 days! First time cruise and going solo. Thanks guys!
How awesome! We hope you have an amazing time! Don't miss the Solo meet up event that takes place just prior to Sail Away! It should be in the app, but if you can't find it, just head up to the Net on deck 16 and you should see at least one member of the Happeings Cast there with a "Solo" sign and champagne. 🙂
Cruising out of port Canaveral feb 2025 on this ship.
That's right around the corner! We hope you have an amazing cruise!
Good information! Tempting…. NCL was my first cruise in the early 90s.
Oh wow! And look at how much you've evolved over the years!
@@thiscruiselifeit was the Southward. Went to Catalina, Ensenada, and San Diego. Wow, found that tonnage was 16710.

Maybe I am missing something but it doesnt feel like you guys cruise together anymore. Its like one channel with two separate experiences. Love it when you do food reviews together and play off one another. Hope all is well!
Thank you so much for the feedback! Mark had booked this transpacific itinerary while we were both still gainfully employed. There wasn't any way I could have gotten the time off, so I told Mark to still go and have fun - without me. In doing that, and since we're both doing this full-time, I got myself booked on the Holland America Standby Program. While it was fun to check out a new ship, it just wasn't the same without Mark. We'll have a few more individual sailings next year, but most of the big ones will be together with our witty personalities side-by-side! -Rocky
@ love it and love you two!!
Sorry I could not make the live I was driving!
Thank you for driving safe! 💙
With all of the cruising you've done, have you ever thought about doing an episode describing your best appetizer on a cruise ship and the first runner-up. The same with the entree best 1 and 2, and best dessert 1 and 2. Also, best pasta 1 and 2 etc.. we get to know the best ship for food and the best food. This vlog was thoroughly enjoyable.
Oh goodness; I haven't thought about that - but I LOVE the idea! Off the top of my head, I already know my favorite appetizer (by a mile) and entrée (along with second favorite entrée). Dessert would be a challenge due to inconsistency between the times I've enjoyed it. The cool part about this is each favorite item is on a different ship! Thanks for watching, the kind words, and the suggestion!! -Mark
you should try the Noodle in Soup bowls. So good and tasty.
I've had that before and thoroughly enjoyed it! Because we were on Carnival Panorama, we enjoyed JiJi's Asian Kitchen for lunch every day where we had the noodle and broth bowls. We figured since it was already included (and we enjoyed it on at least 8 of our sea days!) we'd skip it this time at Bonsai Sushi. ;) But definitely a recommend from me!! -Mark
I like Shaq’s Big Chicken but the biscuit breakfast sandwich almost made me 🤮
Oh no! Didn't care for the sausage patty they used? Curious to know what you didn't like about it.
@ The sausage tasted like it was rotten and the biscuit had a weird texture. I’ll be honest… it tasted so foul I had to spit it out. That’s not like me at all and I’m not a very picky eater. Maybe I just got some rotten pork idk 😂
@@tiffanyhanson3701 We're so sorry to hear that. Definitely not the experience we've had, but things do change as the crew changes throughout the year. Hopefully the supply gets addressed, and you were able to find more palatable food for breakfast for the duration of your voyage!
@ oh yes. We love the huevos rancheros and arepas from Blue Iguana - our favorite! We will be on in a few weeks. I’m sure someone in our party will try the breakfast sandwich from Shaq’s so we’ll see if I just had a bad one. But I am excited to try Java Blue breakfast sandwiches now!
@@tiffanyhanson3701 Yes! So many great breakfast options available on the Excel-class of ships! Fingers crossed that the breakfast biscuit has improved since your last experience...
Did that cruise also! Awesome cruise!
Love it! :) It really was such an amazing time. I can't believe we've already been home for almost 2 weeks. Where does the time go?!
You need a red band for deck 5.
Hey there! Thanks for watching. If you want to access the Terrazza area at the aft of the ship, you'll need a wristband during the day. However, the "secret spaces" at the forward of the ship are accessible for all passengers. Of course, we always say, pay attention to any signage as these areas can sometimes be closed due to windy conditions on board. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Mark
Loved meeting you on the Transpacific!
Yes! It was such a wonderful time. I'm already looking forward to the next one!!! :) -Mark
We were also on the inaugural, and in fact, you got us in your video. I agree with the Texas tailgate. Regardless of the time of year, it should be the second day at sea if the two sea days are on the way out and the first of the two days at sea if they are on the way back. The noise in your stateroom looks like the closet door closest to the entry door was a little open. I'm sure I saw it moving.
Hey there!! :) I hope that the video brought back some GREAT memories of the Jubilee inaugural. Glad you found us - and even spotted yourselves. Yes, the closet was a little loose, but thankfully, noise it made was negligible. Sadly, the noise inside the wall wasn't accessible even via the plumbing access panel in the hall unless they took out a portion of the unit. Hopefully, they've been able to fix it by this point. I'm excited to get back on the Jubilee to introduce it to Rocky at some point. It's the only Excel that he hasn't seen in person! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!! -Mark
I thought you needed a Spa Package?
Many of the major cruise lines require a spa pass to access their ship saunas, however Carnival still makes them available to the public. Some of the ships have additional saunas and steam rooms within the exclusive spa areas.
I was on that ship
Hope you also had an enjoyable cruise! Loved all of the relaxing sea days.
Thanks I went there on November 1st 2024

great info with really likeable personalities (:
Thank you for watching! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video.
We are taking this ship in November 17-24. Hope we will like it. I’ve read complaints that the food isn’t too good and it’s difficult to get stuff. Also not enough deck chairs? We’ve sailed on Costa, Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Celebrity, and am truing out MSC for the first time. My first cruise was the Leonardo DaVinci in 1967.
We didn't experience issues getting deck chairs during our cruise. And we also very much enjoyed the main dining room food and experience on our cruise. We hope you have a great time! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
I’ve been on the ship three times. Because the price is phenomenal for what you get one quick thing about the charges that I guess the boys didn’t know is that you can find a running tally of all your charges on the TV that’s in the room, you just go to a certain channel and your invoice. Is there during the whole trip
@@krickenthekraken8844 ah! Thank you for sharing that information. We attempted to access our invoice on our TV however it wouldn’t load. It was a minor setback to have to request a printed copy from guest services.
ik denk dat deze persoon beter naar een andere cruisemaatschappij gaat... Conard of iets dergelijks dan zal hij zich minder ergeren aan onbenulligheden !
Thank you for watching our video. We always approach our cruises with an open mind and share our experiences with what went well and what didn't. With that being said, there's always the possibility that your experience will be different. I very much enjoyed my sailing on Eurodam and believe that a longer sailing would make for a better, more encompassing experience. -Rocky

Thanks for posting. I've been worried about the Sky because of its age, but it was the perfect Mediteranean itinerary for us next Fall. I think because we are retired and are really low key, plus no sea days, it will actually be fine for us based on your reviews and the other videos you posted. The only other NCL cruise we've been on was the Bliss and we will definitely miss the Broadway shows and the Beatles cover band we saw there. I'm also not looking forward to having to go past the elevators to reach the stairwell when we get back on the ship! We're stair people, but that sounds like a nightmare for both the stair and elevator set.
@@mkatal8329 we’re certain you’ll manage to have an enjoyable time on that itinerary. It’s similar to our experience where the itinerary is what put us on the ship. Hopefully you have a great cruise! Thanks for watching our video and commenting.
PS- thank you for reiterating something we always say: We share all of our thoughts knowing that some stuff will absolutely matter to folks, and other stuff, may not matter at all! We're pretty low-key and can find a good time anywhere, so the fact that there weren't waterslides, ropes courses, etc. didn't really impact our time all that much because we loved the ports (which I know you're going to on your cruise!). Like you, I missed several features from the Encore, and so I'm excited to get back on some of the newer ships again in 2025!! -mark

We did the 21-day Caribbean Cruise twice onboard the Rotterdam. It is a little better on the long cruises, because you learn to schedule your evenings better, and you have the time to find everything onboard. Shortcuts, less crowded times and places, etc. We will again go on a 21-day Caribbean in January, this time onboard the Eurodam. We were concerned over the age of the ship, but after watching many reviews, we are confident that it will be another phenomenal experience. Thanks for your tips and honesty.

You are talking my hubby's language
It's like a cruise ship, without the movement. You get to really enjoy the resort you're staying at and they have plenty of restaurants offering different types of cuisine to keep you from getting bored!
I've heard different stories about how to book specialty dining places - Some say (as you do) to go to the individual restaurant and book there....others say you have to go to Ocean Cay restaurant to book. Can you provide some clarity/straight answers? (other than the obvious = MSC is HORRIBLE when it comes to such things and anything resembling efficiency).
@@jibbityjab2469 hi there. Thanks for the comment. When we were sailing on MSC Meraviglia, we visited the individual restaurant to make new reservations during operating hours. Ocean Cay is central location that is open outside of normal restaurant hours to help you manage and make bookings. Hope that helps!

Just FYI, the captain is normally at the champagne toast. Obviously he was needed elsewhere that night. I've been on Eurodam twice in the past year and we are early diners, around 5:30 on the "anytime dining". We always made it to the 7 pm show in World Stage, and if we miss that, there's the 9 pm show. Agree about the chocolate surprise, it is underwhelming. Also Canaletto being just an extension of the Lido seating is a disappointment. I do love HAL though.
That's what I was thinking. I thought it strange for him to not be at the toast. I should have attended the shows at 7 as I don't usually eat dinner that early, especially on a cruise since I'm usually eating all day. Thank you so much for watching the video and sharing your thoughts! Happy sailing! -Rocky
Great job, Rocky, I was searching for a review before the cruise and couldn’t find any that gives the details you do. I look forward to learning more about cruise life from you 🎉🎉 BTW, our interior room on the same deck got a small refrigerator, and there are two huge drawers under the bed. Amazing design utilizing the space.
I'm glad I was able to sail on the Eurodam, even if only for 4-nights. I realize that there's an untapped marked on TH-cam for videos like these, so hopefully we'll be able to add more itineraries to our calendar in the near future!
Very honest review, Rocky! I echo many things you said except the entertainment program, I think it’s because we eat early so we had no issues attending any of the performances. I must say the target audience for HAL is skewed towards seniors, so many activities wrap up around or before mid-night, which was totally fine for us. Anyway, it was wonderful meeting you at tea and lovely listening to your sharing, great information. Thank you! ☺️
Thank you so much for watching the video and leaving a comment! I hope that the next time I sail HAL I can get assigned time dining so I can attend those events in the World Stage. I still enjoyed the other entertainment I participated in, especially the tea times. Thanks for striking up conversation with me, it was great meeting you! -Rocky

Hi there and thank you for the comment. I just did a quick search on Australia and found that if you plan to visit for less than 3 months and have an eligible passport, you can apply for the Electronic Travel Authority Subclass 601 visa using the Australian ETA App. Here's the details on who is qualified and how to obtain the visa: immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/electronic-travel-authority-601 And here's the details to apply for the New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority: nzeta.immigration.govt.nz/ It sounds like they've made it a little easier to obtain the necessary approvals to travel to both countries for leisure. -Rocky
