Cycling and vinyl, great channel Dave! Must agree the new mix is far superior to the '77 version. Also agree regarding the poor pressing quality. A good cleaning of mine helped out a bit (I have the box set).
Wish I'd bought the CD now. I am on my second album. The first I bought on 22nd October 2022, went home, put Dogs on. Two jumps, lots of crackling and popping. Stopped. Back in the cheap sleeve (where is the cellophane?). Went back to the shop. Complained. Great shop manager. Upon examination, she saw that it was scratched from new! Awful quality. So I got a second one for free, obviously. This one has one jump (maybe too much bass and too close to the speaker, let's see) and yes, frankly it sounds great, superb, but my word, such a lot of static and popping and crackling. Side two I played today and it's ok, thank the heavens. I am scared to play side one again. I will invest in a new cleaning brush and some vinyl cleaning fluid before I even dare to play it again. I thought I was just unlucky, but after seeing a few YT reviews on the poor pressing, I realise that I am not losing my mind. Thanks for the review, it was interesting. BTW I bought my copy in Poland and I thank the nice lady manager of the Empik shop for simply exchanging the purchase with no snarky remarks and suspicious looks. It took two minutes.
That's a grim experience Steve. Good luck with the cleaning, but I wouldn't get your hopes up. No doubt the CD version will be very cheap before long, so at least you can grab that. Otherwise, I'd be tempted to return your second copy to the shop and wait for news of improved pressings coming to the market.
DO buy the record. Gone are the days of people working in pressing plants that were proud of their work and considered it a profession. Now we have people who don't care about what they do. It's a sad fact that records now have to be cleaned from the factory before being played. That's just part of life at the moment. A very sad part of collecting records.

Perhaps the BluRay is the way to go: I have just looked at it and it contains the original mix, the new mix in both stereo and surround and all in 24.192 hi-res. Hi Mike, I was shopping yesterday in a local music store (HMV) and, despite what I said in this video, I was sorely tempted to pick-up another new copy in the hope it would be a good one. Fortunately, I mustered-up just enough will power to resist the temptation. I'll bet that Blu-ray will sound fabulous, but the cost of that set is too high for me. A few years ago, I bought the 'Immersion' boxes for DSOTM and The Wall, and both contained quite a bit of other material (including live performances). Good value. But this Animals box seems a bit thin, unless of course, the listener has an amazing surround set-up. Oh, and I will get around to that Roxy album!

I ordered mine just this morning for €22.99 in Amsterdam, which is even slightly cheaper than the vinyl. Ah, HMV, If it’s the one in Brum, then that brings back extremely fond memories (it’s my old stomping ground). I have 3 possibles for your choice of Roxy. I will let you know later so as not to influence anything. You are a gentleman! I watched your video of Martin Simpson recently. Have been trying to track down a copy of Prodigal Son since, no luck yet, but I have streamed it and I wanted to say “thank you” for introducing me to this guy. Awesome stuff….. Take care.
@@mike_burke Hi again Mike. That blu-ray deal looks a good one. Probably not for me right now, as my surround amp gave-up on me several months ago, and I'm back to stereo in my TV room. Regardless, I've got the basic CD version coming before the end of the week. Great to hear you're picking-up on Martin Simpson, but I so surprised that 'Prodigal Son' is so hard to get a hold of. You know, given that he's still actively recording and performing, it beats me why how some of his most renowned albums appear to be out of print. Still, streaming comes a close second. All the best.

Mine was dead quiet. But I bought the hard back copy and it was maybe after the initial fiasco.

The Blu-Ray & SACD which I purchased are amazing. no vinyl issues on these releases.

Indeed it was, but there was a great Pink Floyd album hidden in there.
