    I want to say thanks for the advice you give on your channel. I got an AVR-4700H around Christmas and I set up Atmos with your guidance. More recently I got eARC working with my TV, AVR, Apple TV, and TiVo with your advice. My system is awesome and I don’t think I would have gotten nearly as much out of the excellent components without the advice from your channel.

    I actually picked up the denon x4700h, I paired it with a emotiva XPA-3 Gen3 3 Channel amp to power my two front Airmotiv T1+ towers and my Airmotiv C2+ three-way center channel loudspeaker. It's sounds amazing. Full 7.2.4 set up on point.

      @jerico85 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zergslayer69 honestly it was all a new set up so I really have no input on the before, but as of right now. The three front speakers sound so crisp and clear, I keep my dual subwoofer lower then I need to only because the xpa amp gives both front left/ right, and center speakers pumping with enough juice to the point that I might not even need my subwoofers

      As with any amplifier/receiver you have to rise up in the category (€€€) to hear a difference. I had a Yamaha rxv-565 for 10 - 11 years. The uupgrade to denon avc 3700h was worth it! I really hope that the denon is as reliable as the Yamaha.

    On HDMI 2.1 port issue, it should be noted that, apart from the gaming consoles, pass-through signal from graphics cards was not mentioned. This is rather important. In one of video demos from Sound United from December 2020, it was demonstated that static images from Nvidia's graphics card (40 Gbps - 4K 120 10-bit) could be passed through Denon receivers onto TV or PC monitor. However, it was not officially shown how dynamic images from games and graphic simulations perform, including variable refresh rate function. There have been multiple reports that VRR/Gsync/FreeSync pass-through simpy does not work reliably, if at all, when graphics card passes its signal to display through AVR. This affects many owners who use graphics cards' HDMI 2.1 port on PCs as a source. There could be a number of reasons for this issue, one of which is TV's inability to receive HDMI 2.1 VRR or one of its iterations from Nvidia or AMD. However, if TV is VRR/Gsync/Freesync capable at 4K 120 10-bit, VRR on receiver should work. Also, VRR is an officially advertised feature on these receivers. It would be most useful it could be officially demonstrated that VRR feature works reliably with these receivers at 40 Gbps. Thank you.

    Where is the link to the little amp that you are using for your height speakers?
    Also, it somewhat annoys me that you can only choose between the Fronts and the Right Height speakers to be preamp only. In my setup my rear speakers (on a 7.1.2....upgrading to 7.2.4 soon) is over a wireless link, I would have preferred for that to be my pre-amp only.

    Technopapa,
    I must confess to getting my hifi store to set my 5.1.2 system up as most of what you said made my brain ache. However, they missed the WiFi antenna sitting in the box and overlooked the fact that my LG CX was better suited for some capabilities. Your advice was key in getting my PS5 to work properly. Keep up the good work across the pond although you look rather weary!

    I have acquired a Denon POA-5200 to drive my mains and add 2 more Atmos, giving me 7.2.4. On the x7200wa I was able to use 9.1/4 Height/FH RH without having to go to the 11.1 assignment. I have run Audyssey and all 11 channels are active. According to AVSForum this is because the pre-out for the mains are always “hot”.
    With your 4 channel Atmos scenario, you’d have to use the amp to drive the added RH, correct?
    Incidentally, I’m losing a little bit of power with the POA-5200 (125wpc) vs x7200wa 150. This was noticeable immediately by having to crank that knob 10-15db to get the same volume level as before. However, the clarity is friggin marvelous!!!
    Cheers bud!

    Thank you for your insights and recommendations. These videos are incredibly helpful in driving decisions about which AVR and speaker configuration I will select. I'm curious if you think this AVR is good for the new Klipsch 5.1.4 cinema atmos system sold at Costco.

      @keithjacobs1020 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      so I just bought the 5.1.4 from Costco and this exact AVR for my movie room and after hours of Tweaking, moving, and trial and error... I can say if you have the will power to experiment with angles and hights, since yes the Costco system is Atmos its not true in ceiling so its not the ideal way of getting that atmos sound you can get the two to sound really and I mean really good together. is it a audiophile top of the top sound quality no by no means. but is it a very good sounding system for around 2300$ that will impress 99% of your average listeners yes. yes it will

    Sharp looking unit! I love the minimalist look of the front panel. I don’t need 120Hz, so I am all good. Love the rear panel layout, very convenient. Love all of those pre-outs, and all of those inputs, Rock on! Love that I could do 5.1.4, perfect configuration for my room. Have on hand plenty of external amps for expansion. Right now as part of the pre black friday deals you can get the Denon AVR-X3700H for $1,200. Value-wise it is pretty hard to beat. I believe for the newly manufactured units the HDMI issue was fixed. Sure there are some advantages to the new Denon AVR-X3800H but it is $500 more at $1,700. You really would need those new features to justify that cost.

    Hi Channa D, I was in the process of upgrading my AVR. Confused whether I should go with a costlier AV processor (Anthem AVM 70 or Marantz AV 7706). Would it be waste of money or should I just go with Denon AVR X-4700H or X-3700H and use the Pre-outs.
    I am currently running a 5.1.2 setup using Pre-outs from Marantz SR5010. The ear level five channels are Monitor audio silver 6 for front left and right, silver Center and two bronze FX for surround. The two height channels are SVS prime elevation. The LFE is handled by two SVS SB4000. I want to add mor channels starting with two more height channels. The Pre-outs are connected to Emotiva XPA-5 and Emotiva BasX A800. So I already have amplification available for 13 channels.
    My question is that would the AV processor give a better audio experience than a Denon AVR?

    Head you say that only rear heights or front L/R channels need to be assigned in pre amp mode- all other channels are on all the time. So if I want to externally power my front stage (L/C/R) if I plug in my center channel to preout and externally power- is my avr still sending / wasting power to the center channel binding post? Or is it smart enough to know center channel is not connected and reroutes the power to other connected channels?

    Man I been going crazy these last few days trying to buy an AV receiver and everything seems to have issues. Looking for at least 7.2 and dual subwoofers. Denon and most of the 8k receivers seems to have problems with the HDMI failing. I’m leaning towards getting the Denon x1600h. Is this a safe purchase? I don’t wanna spend over 600 on a receiver. I just need it to play music and hook up my Ps5 eventually. My TV is a Sony x950g so hdmi 2.0.

      @kristianslot1272 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1. All of them are "good value for the price". It depends on your needs. Be more specific. That said, I'd recommend the X3700H and above due to full set of pre-outs
      2. Again, it depends on your need. The SR7015 and X4700H is virtually identical. Marantz sounds a tad more powerful in my ears.
      3. Depends on your needs. Do you need 4K transcoding or are you playing 1080p movies? The Nvidia Shield is a very nice device for the price.

    • @TechnoDad
      @TechnoDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like the X3700H but if you need Auro-3D, then go X4700H. I would not get the X2700H. That also depends on your budget. It would be hard to hear a difference between Denon and Marantz. I know they use better components in the Marantz, torodial transformer and better capacitors. Again, it's hard to tell a difference.

    Man have things changed, lol. My trusty 2008 Denon AVR-588, $500 value, has died, it was rated in rms 75wpc x 7, all channels driven at 8 ohms. After looking at new AVR's and reviews, I would need to spend $1300 more for a Denon Avr X3700H to achieve the same 75w rms x 7 driven at 8 ohms rating as the older $500 Denon 588. I feel like Rumpelstiltskin, waking up to an over-priced, underpowered future, I realize we are getting a lot of new updates in codex, HDMI, and other goodies, but not in power where it matters. Is the Denon X3700H worth the extra $1300cnd increase for the same RMS wattage? Great videos.

    You over a year ago….I have another question to throw at you. I have the x3700h and BasX 3 running 7.1.4.
    I ran and installed a extra ceiling speaker back by the bar. I was hoping to run sound out of that speaker only during sporting events or parties. Am I out of luck or is there a way I can just split a binding post. Buying a additional amp won’t help correct because the x3700 can’t process more then 11 channels?
    I honestly didn’t think I’d put grow this already.

      Hi Brandon! So you want an extra set of in ceiling speakers for certain occasions? You could have that set as zone 2. You could get an external amp for those two speakers (a cheap one). I'm into the tech level talk and the production is good, I've been watching your vids for a while now. I'm a little confused why you'd promote some garbage micro speaker setup to pair it with though?
    If I'm spending $1300 on a receiver, I'd want to know if it can power GOOD speakers, not amazon bunk bin brand... Will this thing do it's job with some Totems or even small Dynaudios, even as a dedicated pre-pro with external amps? Is the processing audio quality good enough for those or should people be going to amazon or best buy to just buy whatever looks like black and red connect to easiest, because it can't keep up? I ask because I had the X3300W 4 or 5 years back and it ended up falling short once I started experimenting with higher end speakers and 4 ohm loads. I actually went in heavier and got an Anthem MRX-1120 a few months back but it's wireless connectivity and streaming was so slow it was unusable.. where's the solid contender ?!
