Had an aunt Sandi who watched me one weekend and we stayed up late watching movies all the time. On the day my parents came back she had a bunch of empty beer cans spread out (she dumbed them into some bottles cus she didn't intend to drink) filled ashtrays with cigarettes (most of my family smokes like chimneys) and gave me some fake tattoos which looked as realistic as the could. So my parents came home, I was laying on the floor with a couple tattoos on my arm and a beer can in one hand and an ashtray next to me. My parents walked into that and said "Nice try, Sandi. Clean it up." So anyways that was a failed attempt.

Good to know that I'm not the only one who saw that Ursula wasn't the villain in that particular story. Basically, Ariel got her unfaithful sort-of boyfriend to assassinate Ursula to avoid her contractual obligations. Amazing how the heir to the throne didn't know to consult an Atlantis-attorney before signing anything; and Ursula laid out the conditions very clearly to her.

    • @lonemusicgoddess
      @lonemusicgoddess 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

@@savanaerie Maybe because she wasn't the heir to the throne she was the youngest of seven daughters. The youngest daughter who couldn't show up to a concert, at the beginning of the movie, which was suppose to be her musical debut letting down her sisters and the whole kingdom that came to watch it all so she could go to a shipwreck. So she has been shown to have done things in her own selfish interest before.

ok but that snow white impression was PERFECT.
Also it sounds like whoever hates "childless women" is immensely jealous that we can enjoy ourselves without having to wipe baby bottoms. You shouldn't take toddlers to Disney anyway they don't have long attention spans so lines are miserable for them, its super expensive, and they end up forgetting it because they are too young. Wait until they can appreciate it and handle the long lines.

Yeah...that mom's post made my blood boil. And as a child that went to Disney at age 3, was scared by Minnie Mouse, and has... 3-4 flash memories, that being the most memorable...yeah. Wait till the kid is older. I understand the experience the person was trying to give us but.... Yeah. Anyone in mascot uniforms scares me, even if I know them . I honestly don't know if I could handle going to a park again, no matter the theme. I don't like interacting with them (yes, I understand it's their job).. But I also am not a fan of live acting for myself, it just makes me so uncomfortable so no reenactment or LARPing for me.

I was in awe of many things that my kids didn’t even notice or weren’t that impressed with. Their ages ranged from 6 to 12 when we went. I hate how corporate and greedy Disney is. But you have to give credit to those imagineers. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Because if you look at it from a modern perspective, it's basically G-rated tame. I'm pretty sure a modern horror-themed Halloween costume would have incited mass panic in that era. Depictions of death imagery were rare and saved for places like graveyards. To them, it was extremely macabre. To us, it's laughably tame.

As TaelaDragonfox puts it, the standards by which maturity was judged have changed considerably, over the years.
At some point in the latter half of the 19th century or first half of the 20th, up to the middle of the 20th century (i.e., the 1950's), American culture underwent a fad of "cleansing" itself. Until then, all things morbid were rather casually depicted throughout the world. Heck, hanged criminals were left on gibbets, as a symbol of justice, and epic poems are the oldest form of surviving literature. Ancient Greeks grew up on Odysseus graphically blinding Polyphemus, Anglo-Saxons grew up on Beowulf violently disarming Grendel, etc.
Some people seem to assume that the standards of 1950's America were common throughout history, or the rest of the world. That's clearly not the case. As a species, we've constantly embraced things that are overtly terrible.

It is a solar myth Snow White represents Virgo the Virgin the Prince is a solar archetype. When Snow White goes into a coma like sleep it represents winter and the Prince kisses her the sun she awakens and all of nature blooms with her. And in an agrarian aware society having the sun copulat with the sleeping earth would not be the same type of social faux paux it does today. Bback in th8se days farmer Brown would go offwith his wife to copulat in the fields to guareentee a fruitful year.
Most if not all of Disney's characters are based on astrological arhetypes. I have cracked his code and I can tell you that the guy was an occultic genius. Snow White Virgo the Virgin but here is another one Dumbo who is a baby male elephant who grows into a Bull elephant Taurus.
Pluto name of a planet this planet symbolizes Scorpio hidden in plain sight.

I went to Disney every year as a child until I was... 11/12, I think? And have been just a handful of times or so since I’ve become an adult. The adult trips have been far, far better than the kid trips. Everything was better and easier so I was able to enjoy it more. Honestly, Disney was fun as a kid but very frustrating and extremely exhausting so I always ended up a grumpy (& typically crying from exhaustion) mess by the end (all those miles of walking and hours of standing in lines are so, so tough on little kid legs! Adult me is able to endure it with ease, even at Disney world which was torturous as a kid).
I felt so out of control and scared as a kid in the park because of the crowds and being small. Its really scary when you’re squeezed through thick crowds by a death grip on your hand and because you’re small, all you see are people’s butts everywhere at your eyeline... like a sea of faceless people pushing at you in every direction. It all feels very disorienting and scary, like you’re going to get lost and never found. I felt very anxious and panicked the majority of the time I spent as a kid there because of that kinda stuff. that’s really improved by being an adult.
Also it rocks having your own money to spend on food and any silly merch you want instead of trying to beg your parents for it lol The only thing that’s better as a kid are character meets... it feels like magic as a kid but it’s pretty awkward as an adult ngl lmao

Katherine Tutschek Well, with tradition fairytales, they’re coming of age stories, and the absence of one (or both) parent, forces them out into the world to learn the lessons necessary lessons to overcome adversity, and to succeed or fail on their own, and they couldn’t or wouldn’t have had to take these steps if they still had the benefit of a maternal protection and care. Motherless was drives them and the plot, basically.

It was very common for women to die in childbirth, so not having a mother and/or having a stepmother was something a lot of children would relate to when most of the fairy tales Disney has covered originated. They were also pretty gruesome and definitely didn't shield children from the realities of violence and death like Disney's versions do (although some like Bambi do explore that to some extent).

Random question: I work in a hospital and when someone dies on the ward we have some superstitions that seem to be universal regardless of belief or religion (within healthcare anyway.) For example the very first thing you do is open a window "to let the spirit out" another is after you have completed last offices on the body, when they are being wrapped in a flat sheet you need use 7 bits of tape to secure it. No more and no less " 7 steps to heaven." Is there anything similar in the funeral industry, anything everyone does regardless of personal beliefs?

Adele Irvine I work in the United States and most hospitals I have been in don’t even have windows that open. One thing I’ve heard, but never did, was tying a knot in the sheets so the person didn’t pass away. I think they thought it would trap the soul? I’m not sure where that one came from.

Interestingly enough, the last time I went to Disneyland was after a close friend passed away, so I spent most of my time walking around the park pondering upon death. Every time I think of Disney, I also think of death, so it's very interesting to realize that Walt himself may have had the same outlook.

Understandable Walt blamed himself for his mom's death. Since he didn't just contract for the house to be built. He had his own studio construction guys build the house for him. Back then anyone could build a house, and while the set construction guys did banger job on the house itself, they were not experienced in installing heating and cooling systems (it wasn't in their job for making studio sets) so they did what looked right with the heating system. But looking right and being right are too different things.
