Actually with that 9.8hp you could accelerate and pull the plug out while the bow is up, which would drain the boat for you as you drive. Just don't forget to put that plug back in 👍

The Bass Raider. Easier for the dogs. Self bailing. Make your journey a little easier.

Great video. Can;t wait to see what is next. The Bassraider has a lot going for it. Self bailing is good, smaller motor is easier to remove and store onboard for better security. Flat surface already set up for dogs and grocery runs. Only advantage of the other boat is that is is faster. You can go fast in the big boat.

Editing and uploading all the new video content will be harder than the trip itself.
PS - Take the tender that is the most dry. When it's below freezing up North and you're getting splashed in the face as you ferry to land, you will understand why.

  • @garygerard4290

wow, you're really setting up the boat nicely.
your armrest for the chair next to the fly bride needs the forward corners of it radius-ed then the bottom of it rounded over with a router.
I'm really looking forward to following your upcoming adventure.

  • @AdventuresofHappyOurs

My 2 cents on the dingy.. pros and cons for each.. As you get further north, less opportunity for short dingy rides to shore and more so needed to get from your overnight anchorage to a dock further away, so you may want something with more freeboard and power. However, A 9.8 motor weighs quite a bit. Will you plan to drag that dingy mounted off the rear the entire trip? That may be an issue in rougher waters, in locks, pulling into tight marinas, etc. You may have to tie it up against transom and lifting that big motor can be a challenge without a winch system. I have trouble lifting my 6hp from my dingy. Good luck on the preps! I’m working on sending you and Mike some local Info for your NY harbor/Hudson segment.

Nice job on the video, Marty. The vessel is really taking shape. As to the "tenders", here is my two cents......take both along with you having the Bass Raider and Mike having the Preditor. This serves many needs, most of all both of you have a tender for an emergency, yours being roomy enough for the crew. Just set up a "portable bilge pump" that Mike can lower from Good Times on a line and power from the boat. You will have options as you guys traverse the Great Loop and its many different waters, coves, etc.

Work hard now! So y can play hard later on 💪🏼. Good job so far. By the way,, I think the Bass Raider is a better fit for the trip. You don’t need the extra speed or range in my opinion and the dogs will be more comfortable. Which one you think tracks better behind the boat? I bet it will not be much difference to see any savings! But $10 savings! Equal one extra case of beer 🍻. 👍🏼

I wish you could keep the air draft under 15.5ft, or you won't be able to do the western Erie Canal section. One railroad bridge (4th one in from Tonawanda NY) is the lowest. Then you will have to go into the Welland and Canada route.

Marty, you can set up a system like the Seawise davits. seawisemarine.com/ basically, it holds a tender across the swim step so it isn't trailing beind in a tow or taking up deck space. Use the bottom of the cover over the cockpit to hold the bass raider out of the way, the davit system for the other option and you can place brackets on the side of the flying bridge space to hold a kayak or two.
