I love how this performance shows the east and west connecting in Central Asia! Kazakh and Mongolian people both come from Central Asian nomadic tribes. Sometimes they were united, and sometimes they fought. They're like cousins, and they sang the Central Asian-sounding parts of the song together. But their lands and people were divided. Dimash represents Europe and the West. (The Soviet Union ruled the Kazakh homeland, although the "stans" are independent now.) Tengger represents China and the East. (China still controls what used to be Mongolia.) Yet the song begins and ends with the traditional instruments of the high plateau, and their voices end on the same note.
this is weird. the Mongols like Ghengis Khan ruled pretty much eceryone, but they like to move around too much. Sounds like Dimash's friends. They look very Mongolian Chinese. Dimash is the only in between guy I know. lol

I absolutely adore this performance, such a great blend of different cultures & styles. Also the grace & respect between these two on stage, so beautiful to see. It elevates the whole thing for me.
Thank you for your reaction and comments. I love this song, and the smiles on both Dimash's and Tengri's face while they sing. Their faces are lighted up with joy. There are only a couple of times you can see the drummers, although they are not the focus. They are behind, and down at floor level from the other musicians. You can see them from the top shots, and again at the wide shot at about 10:42 floor level on the right. The first time I saw this video I also wondered, so I looked for them. 😊Stay safe and healthy! Blessing to you!
We need more composers and musicians coming together to create these kinds of intricate and unique pieces incorporating multiple ethnic and modern genres.

You need to see Tengri's performance of his masterpiece "Heaven", it's emotional and technally perfect. It's so cool to see him sing, he barely moves his mouth and let it very close but makes open sounds. He's so good!
I love it. It’s something completely different to what we are used to and the mix of different styles of singing... awww 🥰 Thank you for your great explanations.
I was wondering if the song was referencing the Sky God Tengri in the Tengrism creation myth, which was a White Goose that flew over an endless expanse of water, or just the actual swan goose lol
Your comments are brilliant, educational, and poignant. Love you for that! Dimash is a gift to the world and I think we all know that by now. Love Tengri for who he is. What an awesome and unique artist; could listen to that duo all day long. Thank you!
Tengri, pronounced Ten Ger (hard G) Arr (strong emphasis on the R) is wonderful, his voice is very unique and very beautiful. Overtone singing is also common in Kazakh music. I love this duet, two strong voices together but respectful to each other. Love also how Dimash switches from Kazakh to Chinese for his part. Just incredible ❤❤❤
I watch this performance at least once a day as it’s fabulous and Dimash harmonies are spectacular and he looks so happy and dishy . Tengri is such a good foil for Jim and Dimash looks so happy when he’s singing with others .
Hi been watching reactions since covid like most I assume but after watching a number of people reacting I must say Elizabeth I find yours most profound and insightful I have never left a comment on any social media let alone TH-cam but I must admit you have shown me and others I am sure a new way to appreciate music in the past I have stopped to. Listen to instruments but you have shown me how much the voice as an instrument should be listened too now I find myself listing to classic songs and stopping and rewinding to listen to what the voices do and for that I thank you and in closing in the words of bob dylan “the highest form of art is to inspire what else can you do for them “. In that way you have inspired me thanks Elizabeth
Love that moment at the end of his first part when Dimash looks up through his lashes with a grin, like he's saying "Get ready for what we're doing next!"
You absolutely must listen to Tengri - Heaven A simple song with simple lyrics, where he talks about how much he loves his homeland of Mongolia. Tengri really goes into power chords with absolute grace.
Dear, Elizabeth I like your all reaction videos of Dimash. Hello from Kazakhstan. 🇰🇿🇰🇿🇰🇿Please, watch the last video of Dimash. We'll wait ur reaction.
Something I love about this performance is the respect that seems to exist between them. Tengri is a well-known singer in China, and had to be coerced into being part of Singer 2018 and one thing he said when he agreed to do it was that he wished to show traditional music to younger generations. One of the younger singers on Singer 2018, Hua Chenyu, did a cover of Tengri's song Heaven on another show prior to him performing it th-cam.com/video/eMGy5U0bTU0/w-d-xo.html and he's there watching Tengri with his mouth hanging open. Tengri met Dimash when they performed on an end-of-season charity Singer episode, and you can see him in the green room as Dimash is performing Hello on that episode - watching with a huge smile on his face, clearly impressed as Dimash is adding his ethnic runs at the end of the song. I got the feeling he was very impressed with Dimash, as if appreciating the fact that he is sharing cultural singing by adding it into his music. Then to see this performance with them together adds to the narrative I've created in my head, which may or may not be accurate, but is just very special to me.
They sang in Chinese (Tengri) and Kazakh (Dimash) for the first verses, then they both sang in Chinese for the last verse, which is why the Chinese audience applauded Dimash when he started the last verse. The 2 string instruments with the bow are Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle). I always love your reactions and learn so much about singing from you. Thank you!!

Yes, it's cool. Dimash starts to sing in Kazakh, then continued in Chinese. Dimash had Kazakh type vocalisation and Tengri Chinese/Mongolian type. Together it was cool. Like it

I would love it if you could do an analysis of Leprous. One of my favorite bands, with one of my favorite vocalists. They have a very unique sound. The vocalist often sings without words, but still manages to put just as much emotion into it, if not more. they have an amazing live mix as well: Leprous - Acquired Taste Live at Rockefeller Music Hall.
